Telangana CM, YSRC president hail PSLV C-23 rocket launch

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy and other leaders today congratulated ISRO scientists on the successful launch of the PSLV C-23 rocket carrying five satellites.

Noting that the successful launch has made the country proud, they wished success for ISRO in its future endeavours.

India today successfully launched five foreign satellites from four countries on board PSLV-C23 rocket which placed them in orbit, an achievement described by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an ‘endorsement’ of the country’s space capabilities.

Islamic Development Bank announces USD 2bn infrastructure fund

Saudi Arabia-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has launched a USD 2 billion infrastructure fund (IDB Fund II) on the occasion of its 40th anniversary.

The IDB Fund II is the largest private equity infrastructure fund dedicated to the 57 member countries, said a statement issued by the bank.

Woman dies in road accident

In an incident occurred near Amangal mandal, a lorry hit a woman who was crossing the road. As a result the woman died on the spot. Later locals apprehended the lorry driver and handed him over to police.

Minor raped by youth in Uttar Pradesh

A 12-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a youth at Gharipukhpa village in Shamli district, police said on Monday.

According to a complaint filed by the victim’s family, the girl was raped by the accused Irshad in sugarcane fields in the village yesterday, they said.

On hearing the cries of the girl, some villagers rushed to the spot and handed over the accused to the police.

A case has been registered against the accused.

India, China sign pact to set up industrial parks

India and China on Monday signed a key agreement to set up Chinese Industrial Parks in India as their Commerce Ministers today held the first meeting here after the new NDA government came to power.

On her first visit to China, Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held talks with her Chinese counterpart Gao Hucheng here during which she flagged India’s concerns over the trade deficit which averaged over USD 35 billion a year and sought greater access to Indian goods and services.

Ramadan begins in Hyderabad

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan began here Monday with the devout observing first ‘roza’ or fast.

This followed the sighting of moon of Ramadan. Moon sighting committee comprising Islamic scholars announced sighting of the new moon Sunday. The month is also called Ramzan in India.

Sirens blared from hundreds of mosques across the city early Monday for ‘sahr’ or pre-dawn meals.

Governor Mr. ESL Narsimhan has issued notification for election of new chairman of Telangana Legislative assembly. This ensured the victory of TRS candidates on the posts of chairman and vice chairman. Following the joining of 9 members of legislative council in TRS, the party has got majority in the house. After gaining majority TRS has decided to hold election for the post of council chairman and vice chairman.

Police on alert for holy month of Ramzaan in UP

Uttar Pradesh Police have been put on alert across the state for the holy month of Ramzaan, officials said Monday.

The local intelligence units (LIU) have been sensitized in the districts with history of communal tension during the month of Ramzaan.

Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Mukul Goyal in a letter to district police chiefs and the LIU units has asked them to remain alert against any mischief while keeping eye on the social networking sites.

London, June 30 (ANI): Ginny Griffith burned down her house recently in an attempt to kill a spider with lighter.

The 34-year-old confessed to police that she used a cigarette lighter to set fire just some towels in order to scare the spider away, the Daily Star reported.

However, the blazes spread, therefore five fire trucks were called to her apartment in Hutchinson, Kansas, US to put out the inferno and they were able to bring the fire under control within a matter of minutes.

Jinnah’s sister asked to pay water bill 47 yrs after her death

Pakistani authorities here have sent a water bill amounting Rs 263,774 to Fatima Jinnah, the sister of the country’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, 47 years after her death. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board has sent the bill to Fatima Jinnah and she has been directed to pay the amount within 10 days of receipt of the notice, or the connection of water and sewerage could be disconnected, the News reported. It said that according to the Land Revenue Act, the property could be confiscated, auctioned and a fine can be imposed. Moreover, she can also be arrested.

A Samajwadi Party (SP) leader was booked in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district for raising slogans in favour of Pakistan, police said on Monday.

Samajwadi Party leader Mehmood Alam, resident of Jhinjhana town, was arrested on the Meerut-Karnal highway when he was extorting money from the passers-by. Alam was drunk when he was arrested, police said.

He raised objections and resisted his arrest at the police action. When overpowered by six police constables, he started raising pro-Pakistan and anti-Narendra Modi slogans.

Bangladesh taking stern action against anti-India activity: BGB Pradipta Tapadar

Border Guard Bangladesh has said it has “zero tolerance” towards any anti-India activity including those by insurgents and was taking “stern” steps in this direction. However, the force refuted media reports about anti-India fidayeen camps operating from Bangladeshi territory. “I have never heard of such camps or any such knowledge of them,” BGB (ADG) Brigadier General Md Latiful Haider told PTI in an interview here.

‘Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah’ not anti-religion

Ace producer Aascar Ravichandran has reiterated that his upcoming Tamil romantic-drama `Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah` is not against any religion and that the movie will only help in understanding a religion and its culture better.

Some Muslim groups have protested against the film`s release alleging that it degrades their community.

“`Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah` is a film for everybody. There are no scenes that inflict or degrade any religion or caste. In fact, the cast and crew of the film are dominantly Muslim,” Ravichandran said in a statement.
