Building collapse: Delhi Govt announces compensation for victims

Delhi Government on Sunday announced a compensation of Rs two lakh each for those who died in the three-storey under-construction building collapse in Sadar Bazar area here this afternoon.

North Delhi Municipal Corporation has also suspended three engineers of the area and has asked the police to lodge an FIR against the owner and contractor of the building.

Besides the compensation for the deceased, those who have sustained serious injuries in the incident will be given Rs 50,000 each while Rs 10,000 each will be given to those with minor injuries.

Delhi University’s admission process starts tomorrow

Admissions to Delhi University’s four-year undergraduate programme will start Monday, an official said Sunday.

Delhi University, where students come from all over India and even from abroad, has 54,000 seats for the FYUP course.

With students scoring high percentage in CBSE Class 12 examination this year, the university officials are speculating that cut-offs will soar.

“As the number of students getting marks in the plus-90 bracket has increased, so cut-offs are likely to soar,” JM Khurrana, DU dean student’s welfare, told IANS Sunday.

Tribal girl allegedly gang-raped in Bengal district

The police is on a hunt for three youth who allegedly gang-raped a 13-year-old tribal girl from their own community at a village in Birbhum district.

After the crime was committed on Thursday at Kapista village of Md Bazar Area, the family members of the girl were prevented by villagers from filing a police complaint, Alok Rajouria, Birbhum Superintendent of Police said.

Today, however, they managed to lodge the complaint with the Md Bazar police station, the SP said.

Dalit sisters’ gangrape case: BJP to ‘gherao’ UP CM’s office tomorrow

Four family members commit suicide in Gujarat

Anand: Four persons of a family allegedly committed suicide after consuming some poisonous substance near a temple in Ralaj village of Khanbhat taluka in Anand district, police said on Sunday.

The police suspects that an acute financial crunch is the reason behind their extreme step.

The deceased were identified as Arvind Gohil (42), his wife Naina (38), son Mitul (9) and daughter Kamini (6).

According to the Khambhat rural police, Arvind was a mason and used to live with his family at Bhadran village of Borsad taluka here.

Centre will set up special centres for rape victims: Maneka Gandhi

The Centre will set up special centres for rape victims in every district of the country to provide medical as well as legal help to them, Union Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said here on Sunday.

Talking to reporters on the recent rape and murder of two girls in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun, Gandhi said the central and state governments should take necessary steps to stop such incidents.

She said her ministry would set up the special centres in every district of the country, so that rape victims do not need to run here and there to seek justice.

2 men rape woman at gun point outside Bhayander station

Two men allegedly raped a 29-year-old woman at gun point on May 30 outside Bhayander station in Mumbai.

The two men had called the girl on the pretext of giving her a job. Police claim that the girl was raped inside a car. She had completed a course in event management and was looking for a job.

The girl’s statement has been recorded and a case has been registered. No arrests have been made so far.

Spain striker Villa confirms New York move

Spain international David Villa Sunday that he will be joining New York City FC in the Major League Soccer (MLS) next season.

Pele’s son jailed for 33 years

The son of football legend Pele has been jailed for 33 years for laundering money from drug trafficking.

Edson Cholbi do Nascimento, known as Edinho, was one of five people found guilty of related charges by a court in Sao Paulo, according to news portal G1 Saturday, reports Xinhua.

Currently a goalkeeping coach with Brazilian Serie A club Santos, Edinho is expected to appeal the verdict.

The 43-year-old pleaded not guilty to the trafficking charges but has admitted to a drug addiction.
