Shah Rukh Khan ‘happy’ post IPL victory

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) co-owner Shah Rukh Khan is elated after his team won the final of Indian Premiere League-7 (IPL).

Shah Rukh, 48, who was accompanied by his daughter Suhana at the Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore last night, dedicated his second IPL triumph to his youngest son AbRam.

“It still hasn’t sunk in to be Champions again. Thank you my KKR for making us so happy,” Shah Rukh posted on Twitter.

Shah Rukh’s colleagues from the film fraternity took to Twitter to congratulate the ‘Chennai Express’ star for the win.

TRS government would be employee-friendly: Chandrasekhar Rao

The TRS government in Telangana would be “employee-friendly” and treat them as partners in progress, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said here today.

The employees of the Telangana government would get a ‘special Telangana increment’ soon as promised earlier and they would get salaries at par with Central government employees, he said.

He was speaking at a gathering of Telangana employees in the Secretariat before taking charge as Chief Minister.

He said the service rules of the employees would be simplified.

Syrian Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi has said that this year’s presidential election will provide a genuine opportunity to the people to express their will and select a new leader.

The majority of Syrians have showed their willingness to cast their ballots as they hope that electing a new leader would bring security and stabilty back in the country, al-Zoubi said late Sunday.

Al-Zoubi confirmed that a huge turnout is expected in Tuesday’s polls, SANA News Agency reported.

22-year-old girl gangraped, forced to drink acid, murdered

A 22-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped, forced to drink acid and later strangulated to death in Baheri area in Bareilly, police sources said.

The victim’s body was recovered from a field in Aithpura village on Saturday with her face mutilated, they said, adding her postmortem report, which was received on Monday, found that she was gangraped and later strangulated.

Mother beaten up over water, son commits suicide

The acute water shortage in Agra took a cruel turn for Suraj, 22, when his mother Shakuntla Devi, 50, was beaten up for a bucket of water. He allegedly committed suicide after failing to arrange for his mother’s treatment who is fighting for her life in a hospital.

The incident took place in Sati Nagar when Shakuntla Devi Sunday was attacked with bricks for wanting to fetch water, police said Monday.

Suraj went to a police station to lodge his complaint, but was detained and beaten up, neighbours said.

2G: Court allows Raja to examine himself as witness

A court here has allowed former telecom minister A. Raja, facing trial in the 2G spectrum allocation case, to examine himself as witness.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge O.P. Saini last week allowed Raja’s application to examine the witnesses for defending himself in the case.

“The accused (Raja) wishes to examine himself as a witness in his own defence and the application has been filed under his own signature. Not opposed. Allowed. The accused is at liberty to examine himself as a witness in his own defence,” the judge said.

Four killed in Afghanistan suicide bomb attack

At least four people were killed and three others injured Monday when a group of suicide bombers attacked a district headquarters in Afghanistan’s Helmand province, an official said.

“A group of suicide bombers, presumably four persons, targeted the headquarters of Gereshk district at around 11.30 a.m. and so far three persons have been killed, while gun battle goes on,” the official told Xinhua.

One suicide bomber blew himself up at the gate of the district headquarters enabling three others to enter, the official said.

Police returned fire, triggering a gun battle, he said.

KCR promises corruption-free, pro-poor government

Telangana’s first Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao Monday promised a corruption-free and transparent government with its top priority to work for the welfare of the poor and weaker sections of society.

Addressing the main official function to mark the formation of Telangana state, he said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government would be firm in dealing with political corruption.

(Siasat News): A 13-year-old girl hanged herself to death at Rajiv Nagar in Borabanda. S r Nagar police said that the deceased Maryam Fatima hanged herself in her house today.

The police was immediately informed and the dead body was shifted to Gandhi Hospital for post mortem. S R Nagar police is yet to ascertain the reasons behind the suicide as no suicide note was found.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on.

Naxals axe youth to death for refusing to join their movement

A tribal youth was killed allegedly by Naxals when he refused to join their movement in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district, police said today.

Devendra Modem, 20, was brutally beaten and then axed to death by rebels at his native place Baiguda under Awapalli police station limits last night, Bijapur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhnandan Rathore said.

About 20-25 rebels stormed Devendra’s house in Baiguda village, located around 450 kms away from the state capital, last evening.

SC Stays Execution of 1993 Bombay Blasts Convict Yakub Memon

The Supreme Court has stayed the execution of Yakub Memon, a death-row convict in the 1993 Bombay serial blasts case.

The court has tagged Yakub’s petition — seeking a stay on his execution — with pending cases and referred it to a constitution bench, which will decide whether the review petition should be heard in an open court.

The Supreme Court Monday issued notice to the centre on a petition by 1993 Mumbai bomb blast accused Yakub Abdul Razak Memon challenging the apex court’s rules guiding its review of a death sentence.

Sensex up 130 points on firm Asian cues

The benchmark BSE Sensex surged by 130 points in morning trade on Monday on buying in capital goods, realty, refinery, banking and metal sector stocks, triggered by firm Asian cues amid fresh capital inflows from foreign funds.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth a net Rs 2,977.62 crore last Friday, as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

The Sensex resumed higher at 24,368.96 and firmed up further to 24,388.15, before quoting at 24,347.82 at 1000 hrs, showing a gain of 130.48 points, or 0.54%, from its last weekend’s level.
