Chandrababu, who will be sworn-in as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 8, said, “Congratulations to the people of Telangana, KCR and his colleagues. Wishing them success and we will partner with them in development.”

India, Oman to better economic and defence engagement

Bilateral trade and defence cooperation will top the agenda when Oman Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah visits India June 3, an external affairs ministry official said Monday.

Although the visit is to congratulate the new Indian government on behalf of Oman, the two countries are likely to draw a roadmap for future economic and defence cooperation, the official added.

Oman and India have bilateral trade of over $5 billion per annum which is likely to increase to $6 billion during the next financial year.

India treated Nawaz like a schoolboy: Imran Khan

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan Monday said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was treated like a schoolboy when he visited India to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony last week.

By not meeting the representatives of the Hurriyat Conference in New Delhi, the prime minister had struck a bargain on Kashmir, Dawn online quoted Khan as saying.

Khan raised questions like if Sharif could meet Indian leaders in Delhi, then why could he not hold a meeting with those representing the Hurriyat Conference.

Special centres for rape victims, says Maneka

The government would set up special centres for rape victims in each district of the country to give them protection, medical treatment and legal help, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi announced Monday.

The project which will approximately cost Rs.500 crore would be set up by the end of this year, Gandhi said during a media briefing here.

The centres will provide medical and legal help to rape victims as well as police and ambulance services, she said.

Gadkari, Raut resign from Maha Legislative Council

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Monday closed 467.51 points or 1.93 percent up on positive global cues and heavy buying in interest-sensitive stocks ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) bi-monthly monetary policy review.

Delhi HC notice to CBI as Chautala seeks bail

The Delhi High Court Monday sought the CBI’s response on a plea by former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala seeking six weeks’ interim bail following the death of his younger brother, Pratap Singh Chautala.

A division bench of Justice Kailash Gambhir and Justice V.K. Shali issued notice to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which sought time to verify the status.

The court posted the matter for June 3.

Chautala, chief of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), was sentenced to 10 years in jail for irregularities in appointment of teachers in 2000.

HC extends relief granted to Salman regarding TV programme

The Bombay High Court today extended the interim relief granted to Bollywood actor Salman Khan by restraining a private news channel from airing a programme on the hit-and-run case in which he is an accused and facing a trial.

The court, on May 30, had restrained the English news channel from telecasting the programme titled “Hit and run case”, or uploading it on the Internet.

Justice S C Gupte today extended this interim relief till further orders, while adjourning the hearing to June 16.

The TV cahnnel had first aired the programme on May 21.

Car bomb explosion in Syria, casualties feared

A booby-trapped car blew up in Syria’s central province of Homs Monday, leaving an indeterminate number of victims, media reported.

The car exploded in the town of Haraqi in eastern Homs, Xinhua reported citing the official SANA news agency and activists, adding that many people were killed and wounded.

The explosion has also left huge property losses, according to SANA.

Meanwhile, activists of local coordination committees said rebel fighters downed a Syrian war jet near the military base of Shuairat in the countryside of Homs, capturing the pilot alive.

UN: Iran aiding probe of alleged nuke arms work

The head of the UN nuclear agency says Iran is cooperating “substantively” with a probe of suspicions that Tehran may have worked secretly on atomic arms.

But Yukiya Amano suggests that it is too early to make a judgement.

Iran recently submitted documents to Amano’s International Atomic Energy Agency for the first time, to back its claim that its tests with a special kind of detonator were meant only for civilian purposes. It denies any interest in nuclear arms.

Jordana Spiro expecting first child?

Four killed in Iraq car bomb explosions

At least four people were killed and 41 injured Monday in three separate incidents of car bombings in Iraq, police said.

A car bomb detonated at a popular market in the city of Najaf, some 160 km south of Baghdad, left at least two people dead and 20 injured, a local police source told Xinhua.

In another incident, two people were killed and nine injured when a booby-trapped car went off at a marketplace in the town of Iskandriyah, some 50 km south of Baghdad, a police official said.

The star cast of upcoming comedy drama ‘Fugly’- Mohit Marwah, Olympic medalist Boxer Vijender Singh, Kiara Advani and Arfi Lamba was recently spotted promoting their film at Bollywood Choreographer Shiamak Davar ‘s summer funk show held in Mumbai.

Speaking at the event, Marwah said: “Fugly is coming on 13th June and it’s a story of four friends who are getting on to their lives and having a blast in their lives. Suddenly a big incident happens and then they fight against it and how did they come out stronger, that is what our film is all about.”

UP police chief issued notice over another rape

The National Commission for Women (NCW) Monday took suo moto cognizance of the rape and killing of a 22-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district and served a notice to Director General of Police A.L. Banerjee.

The woman’s body was recovered from a field in Aenthapur village Saturday. Her face was burnt with acid and she was found naked in the field.

No personal belongings, other than a half-burnt hair clip, a handkerchief, a pair of scissors and a small piece of her kurta was recovered from the crime scene. The woman had a plastic rope tied around her neck.

Youth attempts to rape woman priest in a temple

A youth allegedly attempted to rape a woman priest in a temple here and she was seriously injured during the incident, police said today.

The incident happened yesterday in a Shiva temple at Muradpura village here, and the victim was seriously injured when she tried to resist the rape bid, they said.

“The accused Balu entered the temple and allegedly tried to rape the woman who was injured seriously when she tried to resist him,” SP Rural Alok Priyadarshi said.

When some locals reached the temple, they caught hold of the accused, beat him up and later handed him over to the police.
