Dozens of migrants bodies found along Yemen shores

A Yemeni security official and witnesses say the bodies of dozens of illegal immigrants, mostly from Somalia and Ethiopia, have been found on western beaches after their boat capsized in the Red Sea. Witnesses said today that about 50 bodies were found starting Friday and buried near the town of Zoubab.

Rapolu denied invite for swearing-in-ceremony

Rajya Sabha member Rapolu Anand Bhaskar on Monday complained to Governor ESL Narasimhan that he did not get any intimation or invitation to attend the swearing-in ceremonies held at Raj Bhavan.

Rapolu said that he did not get the invitation for swearing-in ceremony of Narasimhan as Governor of Telangana and also the swearing-in of first Council of Ministers of Telangana. He expressed pain and anguish over being denied an invitation to participate in the historic occasions.

Sushma Swaraj, Scientist C N R Rao meet PM Modi

External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj accompanied by Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Maruti, Hyundai sales surge in May as new govt brings hope

Buoyed by positive sentiment over the formation of a stable government at Centre, domestic car sales saw an upswing in May with major firms, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Honda and Ford reporting good growth.

Yet, others such as Mahindra & Mahindra, General Motors India and Tata Motors reported decline in their domestic sales during the month.

The country’s largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said its domestic sales rose 16.4 percent during the month to 90,560 units as against 77,821 units in May 2013.

Seven troops among several dead as Yemen army, Shiites clash

Seven soldiers and several other people were killed Monday in clashes between the Yemeni army and Shiite Huthi rebels close to the capital, tribal and medical sources said.

The clashes erupted after troops tried to expel rebels from a strategic position near Amran controling the road to Sanaa, local officials said.

The air force intervened to back the army and its allies from the Sunni Islah party, they said.

Telangana CM Chandrasekhar Rao’s cabinet meets informally

The council of ministers of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao held an “informal” meeting here on Monday after he assumed charge, sources said.

Rao took charge at about 1300 hours in his office in the Secretariat building here after priests performed a puja and blessed him.

The Telangana Legislative Assembly is likely to have its session from June 9, Telangana state finance minister E Rajender indicated.

Chandrasekhar Rao has also allocated portfolios to 11 ministers, who took oath along with him today.

UP govt to launch helpline for women in every district

Under attack from all quarters over gangrape and killing of two teenage girls in Badaun district, UP CM Akhilesh Yadav today directed authorities to launch a helpline in every district of the state to deal with women harassment complaints. “The helpline would be monitored by the SSPs and SPs themselves,” the Chief Minister said while issuing a directive to this effect to authorities concerned.

He said that inquiries into the complaints of harrassment made by women must be ensured through women cell, which will
also be overseen by the SSPs and SPs of the districts concerned.

A prostitution racket allegedly being run from a flat here owned by former Mumbai Police chief Satyapal Singh, now a BJP Member of Parliament, has been busted and the apartment’s caretaker arrested.

Two young women were rescued from the flat in suburban Andheri, which was raided on Saturday, police said today.

The flat had been leased out to a well-known business house for 33 months and Singh said he is taking legal action against the private company for breach of contract.

India world’s second largest textiles exporter: UN Comtrade

India has improved its ranking to emerge as the second largest textile exporter in the world beating competitors like Italy, Germany and Bangladesh in calender year 2013, with China retaining the top position, according to data released by UN Comtrade.

Currently, India exports textiles worth USD 40.2 billion, while the total global textiles exports stand at USD 772 billion, with India commanding 5.2 per cent of the share.

Cong MLA acquitted in 14-year-old assault case

Congress MLA Asif Mohd Khan has been acquitted by a Delhi court of the charges of assaulting and obstructing MCD officials engaged in some construction work in 1999, as the witnesses turned hostile.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pritam Singh acquitted Khan, an MLA from Okhla here, in the case saying prosecution has failed to prove its case against him.

New state of Telangana gets two Deputy Chief Ministers

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today appointed two Deputy CMs besides allocating portfolios. Senior TRS leader Naini Narasimha Reddy has been made the Home Minister, while E Rajender has got Finance. Along with Rao, 11 ministers were sworn in by Governor E S L Narasimhan today as Telangana, the 29th state of the country, came into existence.

Md Mahmood Ali and T Rajaiah were named as the Deputy Chief Ministers. Ali would handle revenue, while Rajaiah would
handle medical and health department, an official release said.
