Despite millions of documents underpinning a new wave of corruption allegations surrounding the award of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, FIFA’s chief ethics investigator has reportedly revealed that will not be examining the documents.

With Michael Garcia’s report due on the millions of files raising fresh questions over Qatari bid for the 2022 World Cup on 9 June, it is reportedly understood that FIFA ethics head has not asked for the documents.

National flag to fly at half mast as mark of respect for Munde

The Government has decided that the National flag will be flown at half mast today in Delhi and capitals of the states and union territories as a mark of respect to Union Minister Gopinath Munde, who passed away here this morning.

A statement issued by Home Ministry said that the national flag will also be flown at half mast tomorrow at the place of cremation.

Munde died here this morning in a road accident. 64-year-old Munde was on his way to airport when his car was hit by another vehicle at around 6:30 a.m. (ANI)

‘Open dialogue needed between Hindus and Muslims to dispel misconceptions’

The former Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka Samskrit University and secretary of Gandhi Peace Foundation Mallepuram G. Venkatesh has called for an open and healthy dialogue between the Hindu and Muslim communities to dispel misconceptions about one another.

Speaking at a seminar on ‘Understanding Muslims’, organised by the monthly ‘Muslim Dani’ in collaboration with the foundation and Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi here on June 1, Prof. Venkatesh said the cultural and social history of Karnataka was marked by rich interactions between Hindus and Muslims.

As per the details, the deceased Sheikh Baba, 30, an auto driver and resident of Barkas, was an alcoholic and used to harass her mother Fatima Bi and wife Ayesha Begum under the influence of alcohol.

Synthite forays into domestic retail market with curry masalas

Aiming to make its presence felt in the Rs 6,500 crore branded curry masala market in India, the Kerala-based spice major Synthite has launched 10 curry masalas and spice powders under the brand name ‘Kitchen Treasures’.

These include chicken and fish masalas besides six basic spice powders, chilli, turmeric and coriander, among others.

The company is targetting a market share of about Rs 30 crore in the first year, Synthite MD George Paul told reporters here last night.

The branded curry masala market in Kerala was worth Rs 600 crore, he said.

A new study has revealed that hurricanes with feminine names are likely to cause significantly more deaths than hurricanes with masculine names, apparently because storms with feminine names are perceived as less threatening.

According to the research by University of Illinois, severe hurricanes with a more feminine name result in a greater death toll, simply because a storm with a feminine name is seen as less foreboding than one with a more masculine name.

Researchers have said that even by three months of age, babies are visually able to locate objects that stand out from a group.

Psychology Professor Scott Adler in the Faculty of Health, who led the research, said for example, an infant can pick a red umbrella in a sea of grey ones, added that this indicates that babies at a very young age are able to selectively extract information from the environment, just like adults.

Apple users can now dim lights, lock doors with new feature in iOS 8

iPhone maker, Apple has reportedly announced HomeKit functionality for iOS 8, which lets users manage their home automation devices.

The HomeKit lets users manage their home automation devices, so that one can lock doors, dim lights, and adjust their thermostat from their iPhone or iPad.

According to CNET, on Monday the company announced that it has added functionality in its upcoming release of iOS 8, through the HomeKit software platform, to integrate control for door locking, light dimming, and other home automation gadgets and features to iOS devices.

Now, iPhone users to get predictive text suggestions in iMessage

Apple has reportedly announced a new feature called QuickType to iOS 8, which will offer predictive suggestions as users type their text messages.

According to CNET, the iPhone maker announced the new feature on Monday, at its Worldwide Developers Conference.

QuickType promises that it will help users type their messages more quickly.

The new feature will learn users’ style and choice of words over the time and the more one uses it, the smarter it will get.

Whatsapp update for Windows opens up improved privacy, customizable UI, notification alerts

The internet based chat application Whatsapp has launched its update for Windows today which includes better privacy settings, customizable interface and notification tones.

Whatsapp now allows Windows users to change their privacy setting and set the audience for their profile photo, status, and the last seen feature.

One can also change their device’s user interface, which earlier was same as the phone’s ‘Message’ interface, and they can also set their desired notification alert tones.

A leader has passed away: B-Town on Munde’s demise

Bollywood celebrities like Mahesh Bhatt and Javed Akhtar have expressed shock and grief at the sudden demise of union Minister for Rural Development and senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gopinath Munde in Delhi Tuesday.

Munde, 64, an important figure in Maharashtra politics, was on his way to the Indira Gandhi International Airport when his Maruti Suzuki SX4 car was hit by a Tata Indica at Aurobindo Marg in south Delhi around 6.20 a.m., police said.

IPS officer accused of clicking woman’s pictures given posting

Policeman opens fire in Lucknow, injures four

A police constable opened fire in the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) here and critically injured four of his family, an officer said Tuesday.

The firing occurred Monday night in residential area of the university campus when Shivjeet Singh, guard to the additional director general of police, opened fire from his service revolver, injuring his wife, brother-in-law and two other relatives, police said.

SC to hear Tarun Tejpal’s plea for extending interim bail

Karnataka govt to bring legislation to punish bogus ration card holders

Karnataka government will enact a new legislation to punish bogus ration card holders, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dinesh Gundurao said on Monday.

“On the instruction of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, we are enacting a legislaton to punish fake ration card holders to implement Anna Bhagya (scheme to provide rice at Re 1 a kg to the poor) without any obstacles,” he told reporters here.

No leniency would be shown after the initiation of the process of filing criminal cases against the bogus ration card holders, the minister said.
