Shocked BJP workers and leaders of other parties gathered at the party’s headquarters here to pay homage to union Rural Development Minister Gopinath Munde, who died in a road accident here Tuesday morning.

Munde’s body encased in a glass-top coffin was brought on an army truckto the Bharatiya Janata Party’s 11 Ashoka Road office for people to pay homage.

The transparent coffin with Munde’s body wrapped in a white sheet was carried inside the office and a BJP flag was placed on it.

After making a promising start with “Filmistaan”, Nitin Kakkar is hopeful of materialising his plans of making a black and white movie on Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto’s stories and finding producers for his dream project.

“I wanted to make my debut with a black and white film but unfortunately that script never took off. I wanted to adapt Manto’s stories. There were five short stories which I wanted to adapt in one story.”

There is a “concerning pattern” among young Canadian students in watching porn and ‘sexting’ has also become commonplace among teenagers, a survey shows.

“In our survey, 40 percent of boys admitted to looking for porn online and the ones that did typically said they were frequently searching for it,” Matthew Johnson, director of education for MediaSmarts, an Ottawa-based digital literacy outfit, was quoted as saying.

The researchers conducted a survey with 5,436 students in grades four through 11 about their lives online.

Cabinet passes resolution condoling Munde’s death

The union cabinet Tuesday met and passed a resolution condoling the death of union minister Gopinath Munde, who died in a car accident here in the morning.

Munde would be cremated in his native place in Maharastra Wednesday “with full state honours”, said union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

The cabinet also resolved to observe national mourning Tuesday, he added.

India’s central bank leaves policy rates intact

India’s central bank Tuesday kept all key policy rates unchanged but eased some money for lending, indicating that it will await more positive signals from the economy and the upcoming national budget before measures to spur growth.

While the cash reserve ratio was kept unchanged at 4 percent, statutory liquidity ratio (SLR), which is the quantum of liquid assets banks have to hold against their deposits, has been reduced by 50 basis points to 22.5 percent.

This could release Rs.35,000 crore more for banks to lend. India Inc welcomed the move.

Sonia expresses ‘great pain’ over Munde’s death

Congress president Sonia Gandhi Tuesday wrote to Pradhanya Munde, wife of union minister Gopinath Munde who died in a car accident, expressing “great pain” at his demise.

“The news about the sudden demise of your husband has caused me great pain. I am aware that the pain must be unbearable for you and other family members and words of condolences are not enough. There are certain accidents in life on which we lack control and must bear with,” Gandhi said in the letter.

Male contraceptive pill will have to wait

The much speculated birth control pill for males may not see the light of day soon as researchers have found that hormonal male contraception via testosterone does not stop the production of healthy sperm.

The problem actually lies in optimal dosing of testosterone, the study showed.

The study involving mice showed that a previously developed male hormonal oral contraceptive method (via testosterone) is unable to stop the production and/or the release of sperm.

Newly married girl stabbed by jilted lover

A newly married girl was allegedly stabbed by a jilted lover at Salgajhuri on outskirts of the steel city today.

Poonam Tiriya (19), who works in a shop in Burmamines here, was on her way to work when the man came from behind and stabbed her six times, police said.

Poonam, who got married to one Srikant Mazumdar in March last, was admitted to the M G M hospital.

According to the victim, the accused had one-sided feelings for her and has been harassing the couple ever since they got married.
