Multi-talented Hollywood actor John Travolta, a dancer and singer par excellence, is so fond of Bollywood’s song-dance that he matched steps with Priyanka Chopra on “Tune maari entry” without any prior preparation and wowed the audience at the 15th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend.

The four-day extravaganza ended here with the awards honouring the best work in Indian cinema and actress-singer Priyanka started the award ceremony with her performance and Travolta added zing to the act by joining her on the stage.

BJP questions Gandhi family on Vadra’s land deals

In its sharpest attack yet on the Gandhi family, the Bharatiya Janata Party Sunday accused Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra of making “unscrupulous” land deals.

“Vadra’s land deals have the blessings of Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, the Congress vice president,” BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said in a press conference here.

“Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should explain Vadra’s land deals which generated huge profits for him,” he added.

Ponting joins Mumbai Indians as advisor

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has joined Indian Premier League (IPL) outfit Mumbai Indians in an advisory role.

One of the best batsmen of the modern era, Ponting was part of the victorious Mumbai Indians side that lifted the IPL Trophy and led the team in the first few outings last season before handing over the reins to current captain Rohit Sharma.

A smartphone app makes it possible for people to create their perfect dream and so wake up feeling especially happy and refreshed, scientists say.

The app, called ‘Dream:ON’, monitors a person during sleep and plays a carefully crafted ‘soundscape’ when they dream.

Each soundscape is carefully designed to evoke a pleasant scenario, such as a walk in the woods, or lying on a beach, and these sounds influence people’s dreams.

Hertfordshire University’s Professor Richard Wiseman, teamed-up with app developers YUZA to create ‘Dream:ON’ in 2010.

Now, learn basic coding with ‘scantly clad’ women on new tech site

To make learning of basic coding a bit more interesting, a new tech website, called CodeBabes, has taken the help of women’s bodies.

The website that features videos on basic coding termed the first course as “virgin” class that displayed the women dressed in full, but the women become more scantily clad as lessons become more difficult, the Washington Post reported.

The website has claimed that one should watch the lesson, absorb the info, pass the quiz, and then their instructor will remove one piece of clothing in order to motivate the users.

DLF to raise Rs 900 cr via CMBS; Crisil gives stable rating

Credit rating agency Crisil has assigned stable rating to realty major DLF’s proposed issue of the country’s first commercial mortgage backed securities (CMBS) to raise Rs 900 crore.

In October last year, DLF had announced its plan to raise about Rs 1,000 crore through issue of securities backed by mortgage of two retail assets as part of strategy to replace costlier debt, which stood at Rs 17,400 crore two months back.

Egyptian court sentences Morsi supporters up to 88 yrs in jail

An Egyptian court has sentenced 11 supporters of deposed Islamist President Mohammed Morsi to prison terms ranging from five to 88 years for rioting.

The defendants were arrested during a wave of protests that lead the ousting of Morsi in 2013.

According to the BBC, five of the 11 people sentenced on Saturday were tried in absentia.

The charges against all of the defendants were linked to demonstrations in the town of Samallout triggered by the violent crackdown on pro-Morsi sit-ins in Cairo, the report said.

Re-polling in 12 booths in Karnataka Tuesday

Re-polling will be held Tuesday in a dozen polling booths spread across nine Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka due to glitches in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) and fault of polling personnel in one booth, a senior official said Saturday.

“We have ordered re-polling in 11 booths of nine parliamentary seats after technicians found the EVMs used in them faulty and due to mishandling of the machine in one booth,” state chief electoral officer Anil Kumar Jha told reporters here.

FinMin directs banks to deal firmly with fraud, wilful default

As part of the strategy to contain bad debts, the Finance Ministry has directed all public sector banks to accord top priority to cases of fraud and wilful default and take legal action against those responsible.

“Cases of fraud have been detected in many banks. There is no difference in fraud and wilful default as both are intentional in nature,” Financial Services Secretary Gurdial Singh Sandhu told PTI.

“So banks have been asked to declare such cases as wilful default and appropriate legal action should be initiated by banks,” he said.
