2014 LS elections a one horse race: Jaitley

BJP leader Arun Jaitely Monday said the Lok Sabha elections this time is a “one horse race”.

“When there are more horses then the jockey turns back to see the No. 2. But here When (Narendra) Modi turns around then who is on No. 2 cannot even be seen,” Jaitley said while campaigning for the party’s East Delhi candidate Mahesh Giri.

Unidentified men damage Kejriwal’s car in Rohtak

Two Unidentified men allegedly damaged Arvind Kejriwal’s car being used by his Rohtak party candidate for campaigning in the constituency in Haryana today.

The blue WagonR car, was attacked when it was being driven by a party member and a leader from Rohtak, party sources claimed.

The car is being used by Aam Aadmi Party’s Rohtak candidate Navin Jaihind for campaigning since he does not have a vehicle of his own.

Disaster for country if BJP comes to power: Antony

Senior Congress leader and Defence Minister A K Antony today said it would be a “disaster” for the country if BJP comes to power at the Centre and dubbed surveys predicting the party having an edge in the Lok Sabha polls as a marketing strategy by the corporates.

Pakistan rejects accusation of involvement in Kabul attacks

Pakistan Monday dismissed allegations that the country was behind recent attacks in Kabul ahead of the April 5 Afghan presidential elections.

Afghan officials alleged that Pakistani security agencies were involved in the March 20 attack on a five-star hotel in Kabul leaving nine people dead. Afghan President Hamid Karzai has also accused Pakistan of ” blocking” reconciliation with the Afghan Taliban, Xinhua reported.

UN chief urges peaceful, credible census in Myanmar

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has urged a peaceful and credible national census in Myanmar after the attack on UN and other aid group offices there last week, UN spokesperson’s office said Monday.

The UN chief asked the Myanmar government “to uphold its obligations toward the safety and security of all staff members and ensure protection of property in accordance with relevant agreements” over a telephone call with Myanmar President U Thein Sein Sunday, Xinhua reported.

Iranian supreme leader pardons 920 convicts

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei pardoned or commuted prison terms of 920 convicts Monday, local media reported.

he pardon was granted at the request of Iran’s judiciary chief Ayatollah Sadeq Amoli-Larijani on the occasion of the Islamic Republic Day which will be celebrated Tuesday, Xinhua reported.

On April 1, 1980, Iranians voted for the establishment of the Islamic republic following a revolution which overthrew the West- backed Shah.

Smriti Irani to contest against Rahul Gandhi

Actor-turned-politician Smriti Irani will be the BJP’s candidate against Rahul Gandhi and apex court lawyer Ajay Aggarwal against Sonia Gandhi, the party announced Monday.

Irani will face the Congress vice president in Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh and Aggarwal will taken on Congress president in Rae Bareli in the Lok Sabha election.

The decisions were taken by Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) central election committee in a meeting late Monday.

The party also announced candidates for some seats in Tamil Nadu.

Six killed in Nairobi explosions

At least six people were killed and several injured in explosions in Kenyan capital city Monday evening, police said.

There were multiplace explosions in Nairobi’s suburb Eastleigh, a residential estate largely inhabited by Kenyans of Somali-origin, Xinhua quoted Nairobi county deputy police commander Moses Ombati as saying.

“At least six have been killed. We are still at the scene of the incident and will come up with more figures in a short while,” Ombati said.
