Dilshan fined for breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Sri Lanka all-rounder Tillakaratne Dilshan was Tuesday fined 20 percent of his match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his side’s final Group 1 match against New Zealand at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chittagong Monday.

Dilshan was found to have breached Article 2.1.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

Swine flu claims second life in Vizag this year

Swine flu claimed its second victim in the city this year with the death of a 27-year-old man at a private hospital today, health officials said.

“The man, who was infected with H1N1 virus, died at the hospital located in Gajuwaka area this morning. He was from Sriharipuram locality in Visakhapatnam. This is the second swine flu death in the city since January,” District Nodal Officer of the Swine Flu, Dr L B H S Devi told PTI.

Eating seven or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day can reduce your risk of death at any age by 42 per cent compared to eating less than one portion, according to a new study.

Researchers from University College London also found that fresh vegetables may be slightly more protective than fresh fruit, and canned fruit actually appears to increase the risk of death.

The study analysed information from more than 65,000 people in England ages 35 and older who answered questions about their eating habits.

Sixth Indian jailed in Singapore riots case

A sixth Indian national has been jailed for his role in the Dec 8 riots here in which mobs indulged in vandalism after a private bus ran over another Indian.

Krishnan Saravanan, 31, was convicted of the amended charge of failing to disperse despite being lawfully commanded to do so and jailed for 18 weeks, the Straits Times reported Tuesday.

He is the sixth Indian to plead guilty in the case.

He had faced a rioting charge, which carried a maximum sentence of seven years in prison and caning.

His sentence was back-dated to the date of his arrest Dec 9 last year, the report said.

Hyundai’s March sales down 8.4 percent

Automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor India Tuesday reported an 8.4 percent fall in its total sales for March at 51,708 units from 56,437 units in the corresponding month of last year.

In a statement, the company said its domestic sales during the month under review grew by 3.4 percent and stood at 35,003 units — up from 33,858 units sold in March 2013.

Researchers have suggested that a superbug that causes bladder and blood infections could evolve and become untreatable.

Queensland researchers have discovered an E. coli strain was just one gene away from becoming resistant to almost all drugs, News.com.au reported.

The bacteria had evolved and spread rapidly worldwide over the past five years.

Study co-author Dr Nouri Ben Zakour said the spread of the multi-drug resistant ST131 strain may lead to a spike in urinary tract and blood infections.

New leaked images of iPhone 6 show thinner, rounder design

The French site Nowwhereelse.fr has reportedly featured leaked images of iPhone 6 on its website, showing rounded edges and a slimmer profile.

If the leaked images are to be believed, the iPhone 6, which is rumoured to be named the iPhone Air, will have a thinner, rounder design, similar to HTC one.

According to News.com.au, while the phone hasn’t been announced yet, the images match up well with a leaked image previously released on the Mac Rumors website.

3 tbsp olive oil

400g pasta

Method

Heat 1 tbsp oil in a frying pan and cook the garlic and chilli for a couple of mins until very lightly golden. Stir in the zest.

Teen stabs best friend 65 times post Facebook spat

A teenager has stabbed her friend 65 times after a dispute over some Facebook photos.

Erandy Elizabeth Gutierrez was very furious after she received messages that alerted her to the fact that her friend, Anel Baez , had uploaded naked pictures of the pair on the site, Meto.co.uk reported.

Gutierrez then took to Twitter saying that her friend would be lucky to survive until the end of the year and she has already killed her in her head at least three times.

TVS Motor sales grows 17 percent in March

Two- and three-wheeler maker TVS Motor Co Ltd closed last month with 17 percent increase in sales over previous year’s corresponding period.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the company said it sold 196,826 units last month, up form 167,583 units sold in March 2013.

Woman lost her mangalsutra to chain snatcher

On Monday, a woman pedestrian lost her mangalsutra, weighing about 20 gms, to chain snatchers in Gagan Pahad, near Shamshabad airport.

The victim was homecoming from a nearby grocery store when she was under attack by the criminals.They approached her on the pretext of asking for an address and snatched her mangalsutra and fled.

According to K.Venkateshwarlu, Sub-Inspector, RGIA police, the victim is Lalitha, 45, a housewife, is a resident of Gagan Pahad. The two unidentified men were riding a black motorbike. The police were suspicious they are part of a local gang.

A man from Lithuania has broken the world record by lifting 1,155 pounds without even breaking a sweat.

Zydrunas Savickas achieved his victory at the 2014 Arnold Strongman classic in Columbus, Ohio by surpassing the previous record of 1,128 pounds, the New York Daily News reported.

The 38-year-old, listed at 6-foot-3-inches tall and 400 pounds, lifted the bar with eight large weights, before looking to both sides and dropping it back on the floor. (ANI)

Maruti Suzuki’s 2013-14 sales decline 1.4 percent

Automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki Tuesday reported a decline of 1.4 percent in its total sales for 2013-14 at 1,155,041 units from 1,171,434 units sold in the previous fiscal.

According to the company, domestic sales during the year ended March 31, 2014, marginally grew at 0.3 percent at 1,053,689 units from 1,051,046 units in 2012-13.

Exports during the period under review fell by 15.8 percent at 101,352 units from 120,388 units shipped out in 2012-13.
