Poll notification for T Released

The Election Commission of India today released a notification for conduct of 2014 general elections in Telangana.
The Telangana State has 119 MLA seats and 17 MP seats and the elections will be held on April 30. While it was stated that nominations of candidates were being accepted from April 2 to 9, scrutiny will be held on April 10 and withdrawals of the same will be allowed till April 12. Results will be announced on May 16. (NSS)

98% Polling in OUTA elections; Results Today

Prof. V. Sudarshan, Election Officer, Osmania University Teachers Association (OUTA), has said about 98 per cent of teachers of Osmania University have cast their votes in the OUTA Elections-2014 held today.
OU Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Satyanarayana and Registrar Prof. K. Pratap Reddy exercised their vote at the University College of Science, OU. Scribe revalli Narendar is no more

Prominent sports journalist and analyst Revelli Narendar died in KIMS hospital on Wednesday morning following brief illness. He was 49.

Narendar belonging to Ragampet under Choppadandi mandal of Karimnagar district started his journalistic career in 1986 by joining a daily “Jeeva Gadda” published from Karimnagar. Later, he moved to Hyderabad and worked in various newspapers and TV channels. Narendar’s wife Usha is also a journalist.

BJP likely to stitch an alliance with TDP in Andhra Pradesh

BJP is likely to stich an alliance with TDP in Andhra Pradesh and talks between the two are in the final stages.

Sources said while BJP is likely to get a total of 13 Lok Sabha seats out of a total of 42 in the state, it will also get around 55 Assembly seats as part of the alliance.

“The talks with TDP are in the final stages and the discussions have been good,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

Javadekar, who is also in charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh, equated alliances with marriages which involve long negotiations.

HC rejects Sharma’s plea to file FIR against Modi

Gujarat High Court Wednesday rejected suspended IAS officer Pradeep Sharma’s plea seeking direction to lodge FIR against Chief Minister Narendra Modi in a case of alleged snooping of a woman by former state Home Minister Amit Shah on behest of one ‘Saheb’.

Justice G R Udhvani, while rejecting the plea, observed that there are alternative remedies available and asked him to approach the magisterial court.

The court said that the petition is not maintainable under Article 226.

Article 226 contains the provision for filing a petition before the Gujarat High Court.

I will defeat Narendra Modi, never join BJP: Kejriwal

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday vowed to defeat BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in Varanasi and denied speculation that he might join the BJP.

Addressing impromptu meetings in east Delhi in support of AAP candidate Rajmohan Gandhi, Kejriwal launched a vicious attack on both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress.

“If my aim was to reach Parliament, then I would have fought the Lok Sabha election from a safe seat,” the former Delhi chief minister thundered from atop an open vehicle.

YSRCP rubbishes poll survey

Rubbishing the latest poll survey which was carried out by a national media house, YSR Congress said it has no sanctity and it seems to be conducted only to project TDP though a magnifying glass without going into the ground realities.

“The size of the sample shows that the survey carried out by CNN-IBN-Lokniti-CSDS has taken a very small size and has taken up the exercise only to project TDP and Chandrababu Naidu. The credibility of the channel is at stake as the survey has many loopholes,” party senior leader Dr MV Mysoora Reddy told reporters here on Wednesday.

Free Theatre Training for Children and Youth by COVA.

The COVA and Koshish Theatre Group are organising a free one month summer theatre training camp from 1st May for children and youth between 10 and 35 years.

Selected candidates will continue to receive free theatre training twice a week throughout the year by Dr. Gopi Krishna, Doctorate in Theatre Arts and other experts. Koshish was started 14 years back by COVA and members of the group have performed hundreds of plays on social issues in Hyderabad and other cities of India winning national awards.

Modi attacks Rahul over Congress’ tie-up with Lalu’s RJD

Targeting Rahul Gandhi over his party’s alliance with fodder case convict and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, Narendra Modi on Wednesday asked if the Congress Vice President plans to guard the country’s resources by allying with leaders accused in scams.

Referring to Gandhi, he said the “shehzade” had said that the country needs its 1.25 crore people to act as watchmen guarding its resources but he was himself relying on tainted leaders.

City Police issue FIR against Dargah Yousufain’s suspended Mutawalli

The Central Crime Station of Hyderabad City Police has issued an FIR against Mohammad Faisal Ali Shah, the suspended Mutawalli of Dargah Yousufain, on the charges of financial irregularities.

The FIR has been issued based on a complaint lodged by the Andhra Pradesh State Wakf Board. The FIR has been issued under the Sections 406, 403 and 420 of Indian Penal Code and and Sections 61 (2)(A)(1) and Sections 101 of Central Wakf Act, 1995.

Razzaq blames Hafeez for Pakistan’s early ouster from T20 WC

Experienced Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has called for the axing of Mohammad Hafeez as the national T20 captain and said he was to blame for the team’s disastrous exit from the ICC World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

India beat Pakistan by 6 runs, seal berth in 2016 World T20

India today defeated traditional rivals Pakistan by six runs in a low-scoring but close qualification play-off match of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 here to secure a direct ticket in the 2016 edition of the tournament.

By virtue of this win, India finished joint fifth along with New Zealand in the tournament. Earlier in the day, the Kiwis eased to six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in another qualification play-off here.

Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today said his son Jayant got the party ticket to contest from the Hazaribagh LS constituency on his “own merit”, amidst opponents accusing him of promoting dynasty politics.

Egypt police general killed in Cairo campus blasts

Two bombs targeting security posts near Cairo University exploded in quick succession today killing a police general, followed by a third blast as police and journalists gathered at the scene.

Witnesses said the blasts sent up a cloud of smoke and dust near the campus, the scene of repeated clashes in the past few months between Islamist students and police.

The third bomb struck close to the main gates, where police investigators and journalists had gathered, causing no casualties.

Complaint filed against Sachin Tendulkar’s Gir sanctuary tour

A complaint was filed before the Election Commission today, seeking action against forest officials alleging breach of the Model Code of Conduct, after they accompanied cricketer Sachin Tendulkar during his recent visit to the Gir lion sanctuary in Gujarat.

The Right to Information (RTI) Activists’ Association of Junagadh lodged a complaint before the state Election Commissioner today seeking action against officers who accompanied Tendulkar on March 22.

EC asks Gujarat minister to disclose relations with Ambanis

The Election Commission of India has asked the Gujarat Energy and Petroleum Minister Saurabh Patel to disclose his relationship with the Ambani family.
The EC has asked Saurabh Patel to do so, in connection with his complaint against Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal, who had accused him of favouring Reliance, being the “son-in-law of the Ambani family”.
“We have asked him to disclose his relationship with the Ambani family,” Special Chief Election Officer of the Gujarat state Ashwin Kumar told PTI.
