Waqf record to be digitalized within 15 days

Special Officer Waqf Board Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal has begun steps on war footing to computerize and digitalize records relating to Waqf Properties ahead of state bifurcation. In view of formation of Telangana state on June 2, the government has directed all institutions including Waqf Board to complete the reorganization work within 15 days. Since most of the record in Waqf Board is on files, it is essential to computerize and digitalize the record to save it forever.

Obama heartbroken over Fort Hood shooting

US President Barack Obama said Wednesday that he was heartbroken over the shooting incident which occurred at the US Army base of Fort Hood in Texas state in the afternoon, Xinhua reported.

Four people, including the gun man, have been killed and dozens reportedly injured in the shooting incident, media reports said.

“We’re following it closely,” said Obama at a Chicago restaurant.

Telangana Praja Front opposes Hyderabad as Common Capital

Addressing a Press Conference at Gun Park, near A.P. Assembly, Mr. M. TDP Politburo meets today

An important meeting of TDP’s Politburo will be at 3 p.m. today under the Chairmanship of its President Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu in which seat sharing with BJP will be finalized. The names of TDP candidates will also be discussed in the meeting. It is expected that BJP will be allotted 13 Lok Sabha Seats and 55 Assembly seats. Eight Parliamentary constituencies in Telangana and 5 Lok Sahba seats in Seema Andhra Region will be left for BJP.

Britain vows support in Iraqi elections against terror

Britain will support Iraq’s security forces in tackling terrorism and providing a “secure” environment for the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) announced Wednesday.

Iraq is set to hold its third parliamentary elections under its 2005 constitution April 30.

Rajya Sabha MP among six charged in US corruption case

A Congress MP is among six persons charged in the US in an alleged international racketeering conspiracy involving bribes worth USD 18.5 million to state and central government officials in India to allow the mining of titanium minerals in Andhra Pradesh.

A federal five-count indictment, returned under seal in June 2013 and unsealed today in Chicago, charges Rajya Sabha MP K V P Ramachandra Rao, 65, and five others with one count each of racketeering conspiracy and money laundering and two counts of interstate travel in aid of racketeering.

BJP moves EC over Beni, Azam Khan’s remarks against Modi

BJP on Wednesday lodged a complaint with the Election Commission over the remarks of Union Minister Beni Prasad Verma and UP Minister Azam Khan against Narendra Modi and demanded strict action.

BJP, in its complaint to Chief Election Commission V S Sampath, sought appropriate strictures against Verma of Congress and Khan of SP and asked the poll body to restrain them from campaigning in Uttar Pradesh during the election period.

Court grants bail to Imran Masood in Modi hate speech case

Congress Lok Sabha candidate Imran Masood, arrested for hate speech in which he allegedly threatened to “chop” Narendra Modi “into pieces”, was today granted bail after defence argued that he was wrongly charged under sections for hurting religious sentiments.

Masood, who was sent to jail for 14 days after a video footage of a rally in Saharanpur showed him attacking Modi had gone viral on the web, was granted bail by additional district judge Chaturth Chavanprakash here on two bonds of Rs 50,000 each with a warning not to make such remarks.

Andhra cancels PG medical entrance test

Andhra Pradesh Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan Wednesday ordered the cancellation of Post-Graduate Medical Entrance Test conducted by Vijayawada-based NTR University of Health Sciences.

An official statement said the cancellation was ordered on the basis of the report submitted by the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which probed the alleged irregularities.

About 15,000 students took the March 2 examination for the 2,240-odd seats.

The examination will be conducted afresh. The date will be announced soon, said the statement.

Axis launches home loan scheme for Rs 10K earners

Private sector lender Axis Bank has launched a home loan product for households earning as low as Rs 8,000 a month, targeting disbursals of up to Rs 1,000 crore in a year’s time, a senior bank official said on Wednesday.
However, these loans would come at a premium due to higher risk of such borrowers. Accordingly, the bank would lend at 10.75 per cent, which is higher than its normal lending rates for other customers.

Rahul to address rally in Yavatmal on April 4

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will address a public rally here on April 4 as part of his election campaign in Maharashtra.

The rally will he held at the Postal Ground and preparations for the event are on, Yavatmal District Congress Committee (YDCC) President and MLA Wamanrao Kasawar said at a press conference here this evening.

BJP poised to do well in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh: Survey

The BJP could nearly sweep the Lok Sabha polls in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and make major gains in Maharashtra, an opinion poll said Wednesday.

The CNN IBN-The Week March tracker said the Bharatiya Janata Party may get between 20 and 26 seats in Gujarat, while the Congress may get between zero and four seats.

The opinion poll said “others” could win two seats in Gujarat, which has 26 seats.

The BJP may get 55 percent votes while the Congress could get 31 percent and the Aam Aadmi Party could get six percent votes in Gujarat, the poll said.

Delhi’s 33 percent LS candidates are millionaires

At least 33 percent of Delhi’s Lok Sabha candidates are millionaires, says an analysis by the Association of Democratic Reforms.

Of the total 150 candidates contesting in Delhi’s seven parliamentary seats, 49 are millionaires.

Congress MP Kapil Sibal is the richest with property valued Rs.114 crore. He is followed by another Congress MP, Mahabal Mishra, who owns Rs.38 crore property.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s New Delhi candidate Meenakshi Lekhi has assets amounting to Rs.34 crore.

SC asks Samsung chairman to appear before Ghaziabad court

The Supreme Court has asked Lee Kun-Hee, chairman of South Korean electronics giant Samsung, to appear before a Ghaziabad trial court within six weeks in connection with a $1.4 million alleged cheating case.

The apex court also dismissed his plea challenging the Allahabad High Court order declaring him “fugitive” and “absconder”.

An Indian company, JCE Consultancy, has alleged cheating by Lee Kun-Hee for failure to honour contractual obligations.

India signs deal to fund lights at Sabina Park

India is providing Jamaica a grant of $2.1 million to install lights at the Sabina Park cricket venue, officials said.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) covering the agreement was signed at the venue, clearing the way for the start of the project which is expected to be completed in three months, reports CMC.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller announced that Jamaica’s Tourism Enhancement Fund will grant a further $600,000 to cover the estimated total project value of $2.7 million.

UN chief urges countries to join Arms Trade Treaty

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki- moon Wednesday called for more countries to join the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) to facilitate its entry into force.

Ban made the appeal in a statement to mark the first anniversary of the adoption of the treaty, which he said “for the first time sets global standards for the transfer of weapons and efforts to prevent their diversion”, Xinhua reported.

The treaty was adopted by a vote in the 193-member UN General Assembly April 2, 2013. North Korea, Iran and Syria voted against the measure, while Cuba, India, Russia and China were among the abstaining states.

Yemen terror attack toll reaches 16

The toll in Wednesday’s Al Qaeda attack against Yemen’s army headquarters in the port city of Aden risen to 16, a government official and medics said.

“Two coordinated attacks that targeted the headquarters of the Fourth Military Region in Aden this morning killed 16 people and injured dozens of others including civilians and passers-by,” Xinhua quoted the government official as saying but requesting anonymity.

Fierce clashes that followed the attack left about six Al Qaeda members, five soldiers and five civilians killed, including women and children, the source said.
