Saif experiments with Gujarati accent in ‘Humshakals’

Saif Ali Khan, who played a Gujarati boy in “Kal Ho Na Ho”, will again experiment with the Gujarati accent in “Humshakals”.

The actor will not only be seen speaking in Gujarati, but he has also decided to add a comic twist in the film, said a source.

“Saif had to learn Gujarati a little more fluently, and since it is not that difficult a task, he started to talk to everyone on the sets in Gujarati,” said the source close to the production team.

MERS toll reaches 102 in Saudi Arabia

The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome toll has reached 102 in Saudi Arabia since the virus first emerged in April 2012, a media report said Monday.

The country’s health ministry said 10 new deaths occurred Sunday while 16 new confirmed cases have been reported in Jeddah, Tabuk and Riyadh Monday, the Arab News reported.

The total number of cases diagnosed with the virus has reached 339.

The health ministry has set up specialised medical centres in Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam.

2000 Red Fort attack case: SC stays death sentence of Mohammad Arif

A bench headed by Chief Justice R.M.Lodha on Monday stayed the execution of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq in connection with his role in the 2000 Red Fort attack case.

The Supreme Court issued notice to the Centre on Arif’s plea seeking its direction for his release on the ground that he has already spent over 13 years behind bars and he should not be hanged after such a long period.

Social activist Medha Patkar protest against metro rail

Medha Patkar, social activist of the Narmada Bachao Andolan fame on Sunday protests against the ongoing metro rail project in the city, alleging that the plan was flawed and would lead to the uprooting of hundreds of people from their homes.

Patkar marched to Sultan Bazaar, where inhabitants and small merchants have been voicing disapproval against the metro rail project. “The netas never asked whether the people wanted the metro rail to pass through that corridor. Which democratic process fails to acknowledge the struggles of people?” she asked.

In a bizarre incident, a pigeon was spotted racing with a car on an American highway.

In the video, the pigeon is seen tailing another car at the speed of 60 miles per hour and zipping in between traffic for more than two minutes, the Daily Express reported.

Woman name sounds like al-Qaida, can’t fly to US

A French woman whose name sounds like al-Qaida was stopped from entering the US.

Aida Alic, 33-years-old, arrived at Geneva airport on Wednesday with her husband and two children to fly to New York for a holiday. But, airline staff informed her that they had been told by US authorities she was not allowed to fly into the country. Alic was given no further explanation and she and her family were forced to return to their home, according to the Daily Star reports.

Schools in Lucknow get five holidays due to Lok Sabha polls

School children here are looking forward to a string of holidays from April 28 to May 1, thanks to the polling schedule in the state capital.

Monday and Tuesday have been declared holidays because teachers have been sent for poll duties. Schools are also closed on the election day April 30 (Wednesday) as balloting will take place at school premises where the polling stations have been set up.

Mughlai Chicken

Ingredients:

• 750 gms chicken cut in pieces
• 2 Cinnamon Sticks
• 300 gm Ghee
• 2 Medium Sized Onions (grated)
• 3 Lightly beaten Eggs
• 4 tsp Sugar
• 6 tsp Ground almonds
• 1-1/2 inch Ginger (grated)
• 9 Garlic cloves
• 6 Green cardamoms
• Flaked almonds for garnishing
• Salt to taste
• 5-6 tbsp Thickened Cream (whisked)

Procedure:

• Heat the ghee in a large cooking pan.
• Fry the onions with the salt until it turns light brown.
• Pour the ginger, garlic, cardamoms, and cinnamon sticks into the pan.

First woman captain from Bahrain takes to the skies

Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air’s first woman captain, Yasmeen Fraidoon, has taken to the skies on her maiden commercial flight.

Captain Fraidoon joined Gulf Air in 2008 as a second officer, after graduating from Qatar Aeronautical College.

Accumulating the required flying hours, she completed the necessary training and went on to pass extensive and rigorous checks, successful earning her fourth stripe and Captain ranking in March.

Pak troops again open fire across LoC in Jammu

Pakistani troops on Monday opened fire in Bimar Ghali area of the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu’s Poonch district and again violated ceasefire agreement.

“Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing at our positions in Bimar Ghali area on the LoC Monday morning,” defence spokesman Lt. Col. Manish Mehta told.

“Firing started at 5.15 a.m. Their soldiers used small arms and automatics to target our positions. We have responded with similar calibre weapons,” Mehta said.

Court rejects Giriraj’s anticipatory bail

A court here on Monday rejected anticipatory bail to BJP leader Giriraj Singh in a case related to making hate speeches during election campaigning.

Last week, the Patna Civil Court had granted anticipatory bail to the BJP leader over his remark that critics of BJP’s prime ministerial hopeful Narendra Modi will be sent to Pakistan.

However, Singh has not received any relief from the court in Jharkhand’s Bokaro.

(Siasat News): A day after two passengers allegedly groped an Indigo air-hostess on board the aircraft, the RGI police on Sunday arrested the duo and would produce them before the court.

The arrested are Pavan Kumar Agarwal, 38, and Mohd. Feroz, 32. According to the police, as many as 20 passengers who deal with seed business, were on flight.

Two of them misbehaved with the airhostess when she was supplying drinking water.

Taiwan uses water cannon to disperse anti-nuclear protesters

Taiwan police today used water cannon to dislodge hundreds of overnight sit-in demonstrators, demanding the scrapping of a nearly completed nuclear power plant, one of the most controversial issues to have gripped the island for 30 years.

Tens of thousands of anti-nuclear demonstrators blockaded one of the busiest streets in the capital yesterday, forcing the ruling Kuomintang party to yield and halt construction work at the plant.

Sensex sheds 54 points during pre-noon trade

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 54.28 points or 0.24 percent down during the pre-noon session Monday.

Good buying was observed in healthcare sector, while selling pressure was seen in capital goods, banking and auto sectors.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 22,717.59 points, was trading at 22,633.79 points in the pre-noon session, down 54.28 points or 0.24 percent from the previous day’s close at 22,688.07 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 22,721.36 points and a low of 22,597.19 points in trade.
