Stylish opening batsman Murali Vijay is slowly finding his feet in the colours of his new IPL team Delhi Daredevils and he says he wants to be consistent and finish off more games.

After playing for IPL’s most decorated team Chennai Super Kings for five years, Vijay changed sides this season to open for Delhi and after three quiet innings, he has slowly started to make a mark with solid scores of 52 and 40, which helped his side beat Mumbai Indians in their last match yesterday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today appeared to be defending Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra, accusing BJP of blowing the issue of land deals out of proportion and attacked Narendra Modi saying his name meant “Model of Dividing India”.

Yadav, without naming anyone, said the issue was being raised by BJP as an attempt to distract the attention of the people from other things, an apparent reference to the BJP questioning the land deals by Vadra, son-in-law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

Napoleon Bonaparte’s first wife’s letters to trusted general set to be auctioned

The letters written by Josephine de Beauharnais, the first wife of Napoleon Bonaparte, to his trusted general Alexandre Berthier, will be auctioned by Sotheby’s in Paris on Tuesday.

The letter is one of four revealing unpublished letters from Josephine to Berthier – held within his family for more than two centuries.

Frederique Parent, an expert at the Paris branch of the auction house, said that these were wonderful letters, and were intimate and revealing, to a man who was a trusted friend, the Guardian reported.

Narrow escape for Akhilesh as bird hits chopper

UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav had a narrow escape after their chopper was hit by a bird, forcing it to make an emergency landing.

The incident occurred last evening when Akhilesh along with Dimple, MP from Kannauj, was returning from Saifai after the last rites of his uncle Ratan Singh Yadav, official sources said today.

The helicopter, which was initially scheduled to land at La Martiniere college near the CM’s residence, had to make an emergency landing at Amausi airport.

The study has revealed that ‘self-expanding’ activities, such as puzzle-solving, games, or hobbies with one’s partner, appears to reduce craving for nicotine.

Arthur Aron, PhD, a Research Professor in the Department of Psychology at Stony Brook University, said that an self-expansion activities yielded significantly greater activation in a major reward region of the brain, which is associated with addictive behaviors, than did non-expanding conditions and may help people reduce the desire to smoke.

BWSSB ‘helpless’ against water theft

Water theft continues to occur in Ashwini Layout and VGS Layout near Ejipura, regardless of notices issued by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to over 32 residents a month ago.

What is he trying to do with these comments. Therefore, sedition charges should be slapped against him for saying Kashmir will separate from India,” Pachpor said.

A leading Indian financial and health care service player has tied up with the UAE Exchange to offer Mahatma Gandhi Pravasi Suraksha Yojana Scheme in the Gulf country.

The announcement was made in Abu Dhabi yesterday in the presence of Indian Ambassador to the UAE, T P Seetharam, and other senior officials from the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi.

Bihar minister files case against Ramdev

Bihar Minister and JD(U) leader Shayam Rajak today filed a complaint case against yoga teacher Ramdev for his uncharitable remarks on Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi pertaining to Dalits.

Rajak filed the case in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Ramakant Yadav.

The matter will come up for hearing tomorrow.

Rajak submitted in his petition that Ramdev’s statement “Rahul Gandhi visits Dalits’ houses for honeymoon” had insulted the downtrodden.

Free IPL match ticket to students with guardians

Jharkhand State Cricket Association has launched a scheme to help students of the state to watch the IPL match on May 2 to be held at JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi along with their guardians free of cost.

Those students interested to watch the match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will have to provide details in the form being distributed by JSCA from its International Stadium premises from today, JSCA Assistant Secretary Aseem Kumar Singh said.

According to Metro.co.uk, chances of taking charge of United on a full-time basis have seemingly taken a blow for Giggs, as his own father is not keen on the footballer to take charge of the club.

Akram sees KKR in final four in IPL-7

Encouraged by the presence of many “team players”, Kolkata Knight Riders bowling coach Wasim Akram has expressed confidence that his side will make it to the final four in the IPL as they have a “good enough” bowling attack.

“We just went for the players we thought are team players and obviously individual match winners, Yusuf is there, Shakib-al-Hasan, Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell. All these guys are team people and a team sport needs players who support each other when things are bad,” Akram told PTI in an interview.

Ingredients

• 1-½ cups Roasted Til (crushed)
• 2 tbsp Almonds & Pistas (chopped)
• Powdered Sugar to taste
• 2 cups Khoya

How to make

Roast khoya on low flame till it turns light golden-yellow in color. Allow it to cool for a few minutes.

Now add crushed sesame seeds (til) to roasted khoya and mix it well.

Add powdered sugar to the above mixture when it is lukewarm.

Mix well and shape the mixture into small balls. Avoid too hot mixture so as to prevent the melting away of sugar.

Garnish the laddoos with chopped almonds and pistas.

683 Muslim Brotherhood members sentenced to death

An Egyptian court Monday sentenced 683 members of the Muslim Brotherhood to death for assaulting and killing police personnel last year.

The Minya Criminal Court accused the defendants, including Brotherhood chief Mohamed Badie, of involvement in killing policemen in Al-Adwa town in the Upper Egyptian province, Xinhua reported.

The same court sentenced 37 Brotherhood members and supporters to death and gave life imprisonment to 492 others in a similar case related to last year’s violence in the town of Matay in Minya.

A 18-year-old girl from Chicago wrapped her newborn baby boy in a bag and left him outside to die.

Ana Rosa Mora was concerned that her boyfriend would leave her as her baby looked like her former boyfriend, who is the real father of the child and was charged with first-degree murder, the New York Daily News reported.

The baby was found by construction worker a few hours after she left the child and went back to bed.

US man robs ice cream shop with needle ‘full of AIDS’

A man in Oregon robbed a Baskin Robbins ice cream shop with a syringe which he claimed was “full of AIDS”.

According to the cops, the suspect, who has been described as a white male in his 20s, standing 5-foot-9 with a skinny build, short brown hair, glasses and wearing all bright colors came into the shop and threatened employees with the needle, the New York Daily News reported.

The man took an undisclosed amount of money and fled the store.

60lb cauliflower breaks world record by 6.6lb

A colossal cauliflower has broken the world record as it weights a hefty 60lb.

The vegetable, which is 20 times the size of a normal cauliflower, beat the previous 1999 record of a cauliflower which weighed 54lb, the Daily Express reported.

The vegetable has been produced by champion grower Peter Glazebrook, who also holds records for the longest beetroot and parsnip (21ft and 19ft) plus the heaviest onion (18lb) and potato (11lb) as well as a 97lb marrow. (ANI)
