Malaysia holds nine for suspected terror links

Malaysian police said they arrested nine people today under a security law on suspicion of involvement in a terror group with overseas links.

National police chief Khalid Abu Bakar said the nine, aged from 22 to 55, were arrested near the capital Kuala Lumpur and in the northern state of Kedah bordering Thailand.

They were held on suspicion of being “involved in a militant group that is responsible for planning terror acts in and outside the country”, Khalid said in a statement.

Ishrat encounter: SC declines to admit plea against SIT member

The Supreme Court today declined to entertain a plea seeking initiation of criminal and contempt proceedings against one of the members of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) which had probed into the 2004 Ishrat Jahan encounter case of Gujarat.

A bench headed by Justice H L Dattu refused to admit the petition of Gopinath Pillai, father of Pranesh Pillai alias Javed Sheikh, who was among the four killed in the Ishrat Jahan encounter on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.

Sensex closes 56 pts lower at 22,631 pts

The BSE benchmark Sensex today fell over 56 points at close today on sustained FII selling, chiefly in auto and heavy machinery sectors amid weak global trends due to new tension over Ukraine.

The 30-share index fell by 56.46 points, or 0.25 per cent, to 22,631.61. It had surged to an all-time intraday high of 22,939.31 in its previous trade on Friday.

The broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty lost 21.50 points, or 0.32 per cent, to end the day 6,761.25.

People free to move court directly against false affidavits:EC

Flooded with complaints of alleged falsification of election affidavits, the Election Commission has said people were free to approach the courts directly against candidates for concealing information in nomination papers.

The EC said while earlier the aggrieved persons could approach the returning officer with a complaint against a candidate for concealing information or making a false declaration in the election affidavit, now it is open to people to move a petition before the appropriate court on the issue directly.

Sensex down 60 points, auto stocks fall

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets ended Monday’s trade flat – 60 points down, as automobile, capital goods and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) stocks dipped.

Markets retreated after touching record highs last week.

The 30-scrip Sensitive Index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 22,717.59 points, closed trading at 22,628.89 points (provisional), down 56.46 points or 0.25 percent from the previous day’s close at 22,688.07 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 22,721.36 points and a low of 22,597.19 points in trade.

Microsoft warns zero day vulnerability present in all versions of IE

Microsoft confirms zero day vulnerability that allows remote code execution to be present in all versions of Internet Explorer.

According to CNET, the vulnerability, which could allow remote code execution, is being used in limited and targeted attacks.

All the versions of IE are affected but versions 9,10, and 11 are reportedly the main targets.

A hack ing group, APT [advanced persistent threat] is exploiting the vulnerability.

The group has been the first to have access to a select number of browser-based 0-day exploits, the report added.

Bangalore Medical College (BMC) recently obtained permission to perform liver transplants and as many as 15 people have already registered themselves for a liver transplant.

Dr M M Satish Kumar, Assistant professor, Institute of Nephro-Urology, Victoria Hospital, addressing a press conference here, said: “BMC, which previously had permission to perform kidney transplants, had requested that it be allowed to perform liver transplants as well.”
