Beware! Kittens can transmit TB bacteria

In a first-ever incident of a feline-human disease transmission, cats have passed tuberculosis (TB) to two people in Britain.

The infection was passed to each of the patients during an unprecedented outbreak of the disease among cats in Newbury, Berkshire.

“These are the first documented cases of cat-to-human transmission,” Dilys Morgan of Public Health England was quoted as saying.

Two other cat owners have been infected with a dormant form of bovine TB, said a Daily Mail report.

Cholesterol levels usually go up in colder months – a trend that may be driven by behavioural changes that occur with the changing seasons, new research by an Indian American researcher shows.

While previous studies have shown that heart attacks and heart-related deaths increase during the winter, researchers at Johns Hopkins’ Ciccarone Center for the Prevention of Heart Disease were interested in finding out whether cholesterol parameters might follow a similar pattern.

“Mobile Cancer Clinic” for early detection of cancer

HCG Foundation in collaboration with Infosys Foundation launched “Mobile Cancer Clinic,” for early detection of cancer in the City on Thursday.

The mobile clinic was inaugurated by Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of Infosys Foundation. The clinic will have a doctor, nurse and paramedical staff and is equipped with mammography, ultrasound system, X–ray system, pathology and a lab will start by providing cancer care in North Karnataka.

Justice Mudgal welcomes SC order on IPL report, hopes Gavaskar will do justice

Former Justice Mukul Mudgal, whose independent probe committee carried out a four-month long investigation into corruption in the Indian Premier League (IPL), on Friday welcomed the orders passed by the Supreme Court to appoint former Indian cricket captain and commentator as the interim president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Justice Mudgal said that the apex court had acted correctly on the matter, and hoped that Gavaskar would be able to do justice to the new role that he has acquired.

Superstar Aamir Khan has written a letter to the Election Commission (EC) clarifying that he is not endorsing any particular political party, including the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

IM top man Akhtar was planning terror strike in Delhi: Police

Indian Mujahideen’s top operative Tehseen Akhtar alias Monu was planning to carry out a terror strike in the national capital with the help of his associates, the Delhi Police has told a court here.

The Special Cell of Delhi Police stated this while seeking remand of Akhtar, one of the alleged masterminds of string of terror attacks in the country. Akhtar is presently in police custody till April 2.

Sub-Inspector held for blackmailing and allegedly trying to rape girl

A Sub-Inspector was detained for allegedly trying to rape a college girl in a lodge at Belgaum on Thursday evening.

The accused has been identified as A K Nadaf, attached to the Khade Bazaar police station, Belgaum.

According to sources, the victim Aruna (name changed), is an II PUC science student, hails from Karwar was allegedly being blackmailed by Nadaf into having a physical relationship with him. He had allegedly raped her six times in different lodges in the past, by threatening her. He was caught trying to rape her a seventh time.

India’s first Bamboo Park in Tripura, set up last year to recognise and encourage bamboo-based artisans, will soon start exporting its bamboo floor tiles to European countries.

After facing many hurdles and trials, production finally started this month and in the next three months, the production for the international markets will start as well.

Assistant General Manager of the Bamboo Park, Sanjoy Singh, said the quality of bamboo tiles at their factory is similar to that of wood floorings.

Scientists have discovered a dwarf pink planet located beyond the known edge of our Solar System.

The known Solar System can be divided into three parts: the rocky planets like Earth, which are close to the Sun; the gas giant planets, which are further out; and the frozen objects of the Kuiper belt, which lie just beyond Neptune’s orbit. Beyond this, there appears to be an edge to the Solar System where only one object, Sedna, was previously known to exist for its entire orbit.

Waqf Board mulls case against mutawalli of Dargah Yousufain

Special Officer Waqf Board Shaikh Mohammed Iqbal said that it has been decided to register case against mutawalli of Dargah Hazrat Yousufain in Central Crime Station (CCS) as primary investigations have proved charges of embezzlement. He told the journalists that suspension of mutawalli Faisal Ali Shah has been extended. Tenants revealed that the mutawalli collected Rs. 1.54 crore from them as advance for which no receipts were given. Apart from that 2.58 lakh were donated by the devotees and 2.11 lakh were collected as rents.

Pak special court rejects all Musharraf’s petitions during treason trial

A special court in Pakistan has dismissed all applications filed by former president Pervez Musharraf’s lawyers.

The move comes on Thursday during the hearing of the treason case against Musharraf.

According to the Express Tribune, at the end of the day, the court maintained its earlier order regarding Musharraf’s appearance, whether voluntary or enforced, in court on March 31 when formal high treason charges will be framed against him.

In a written order signed by Justice Faisal, the special court dismissed all applications by Musharraf’s lawyers.

1600s book that claims women have ‘infinite multitude of defects’ up for grabs

A 17th century book, which claimed that women have an infinite multitude of defects, is going under the hammer for an estimated 300 pounds at Duke’s Auctioneers of Dorchester.

The book, titled The Art How To Known Men, likened males to a lion, with large mouths, thick hair and hard and ‘musculous flesh’ and claimed that women have a fair appearance which hide traits like weakness, jealousy, distrust and ungratefulness, Metro.co.uk reported.

(Siasat News): A newly wedded bride committed suicide in Saeedabad. It is said that the deceased Haritha, 18, who got married just 40 days ago took the extreme step, as she was upset with the constant harassment of her husband and mother-in-law.

He husband Veera Kumar was a vegetable seller and has been residing at Subramanium colony in Saeedabad. On March 25, Haritha poured kerosene on her body and set herself ablaze.

TRUTHFULNESS

Truthfulness is very closely related to trustworthiness and can perhaps be regarded as its twin quality. Like trustworthiness, it was also the second distinguishing feature of our Prophet, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam, as he was called ‘As-Sadiq’ (the truthful) for his immaculate truthfulness. Similar to trustworthiness, it is intertwined with Islamic faith (‘iman). It is inconceivable that a believer (Muslim) will not be truthful, or that a liar can be a believer.
