25-year-old man strangulated to death by friend

A 25-year-old man was allegedly strangulated to death by his friend following a drunken brawl in Indirapuram area in Ghaziabad, police said on Saturday.

Sumit hailing from Jaunpur district was killed last night by his friend Tahir following a tiff over some trivial issues, Indirapuram police station SHO Virendra Singh Yadav said.

Tahir has been arrested, the SHO said, adding that the body of Sumit has been sent for a post-mortem.

Rains, hailstorm damage legal opium crop in Malwa

Recent heavy rains and hailstorm have damaged the opium harvest in Malwa region known for its legal cultivation.

About 30,000 opium farmers from Neemuch, Mandsaur and Ratlam districts said rains lashed the region just when the opium harvest was at its peak.

The district Congress president Nandkishor Patel met the Narcotics Deputy Commissioner and discussed with him the damage of opium crop and demanded compensation to farmers after conducting a survey in this regard.

Paediatrician arrested for sexually harassing MD student

A 46-year-old paediatrician has been arrested for allegedly sexually harassing a MD student in Kerala by sending her messages and obscene pictures on mobile phone.

Senthilkumar, Associate Professor and Child specialist at the Salem Government Medical College Hospital, was arrested under provisions of the Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act and section 66 A of the Information Technology Act last night, Salem City Police Commissioner A.Amalraj said.

The girl had ignored the doctor’s overtures when she was studying in the Medical College here, he said.

Two techies from West Bengal dead in car mishap in Hyderabad

Two software professionals from West Bengal were killed and two others injured when the car in which they were travelling hit a tree on the roadside near KPHB area here today, police said.

The victims were returning after attending a party in Bachupally area, and police suspect that they were in an inebriated condition.

The deceased were identified as Sudeep and U Mukherjee.

The other two passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, a police officer attached to KPHB police station said.

Botcha talks on TRS merger into Cong

PCC Chief, Botcha Satyanarayana today suggested that the TRS should keep its promise of merging it into the Congress. He said the merger of Telangana Rashtra Samithi into Congress fold is the issue under the high command purview. It is for the TRS to decide whether to remain a political party or to merge with the Congress, he said.

Revuri flays KCR’s style of functioning

Criticizing the style of functioning of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), TDP Telangana region leader Revuri Prakash Reddy said it was the habit of KCR to deceive honest people who believed him.

Muslims need special care in T state-AIMMO

All India Muslim Minorities Organization (AIMMO) on Saturday demanded that special care should be taken for the welfare of Muslims in Telangana State, as they constituted significant percentage in the population of the new State.

Speaking to the media here, AIMMO leaders M A Siddiqui, Muqthar Hussain, Sana Ulla Khan and Syed Ayub said that education should be ensured to the Muslims free of cost in the Telangana State. In proportion to their population, quota should be provided to the Muslims in employment opportunities, they added.

Charge sheet against Narayan Sai in the rape case

Police here today filed a 1,100-page charge sheet against Narayan Sai, the son of controversial godman Asaram, in a rape case on the complaint of a city-based woman.

“Narayan Sai has been charged of rape under section 376, unnatural sex under section 377 and criminal conspiracy under section 120(b)of Indian Penal Code,” the charge sheet said.

“He has also been implicated under various sections of IPC for molestation, wrongful confinement, unlawful assembly, rioting armed with deadly weapon and criminal intimidation,” it said further.

Minor girl killed in road accident

A two year old girl killed after being hit by a car while playing in front of her house at Jiyaguda on Friday.

The girl Priya @ Priyanka (2) D/o Kishan R/o Jiyaguda was playing in front of her house when a car hit her at afternoon hours, she received multiple injuries and She was shifted to OGH where she died while undergoing treatment later in the evening hours.

Kulsumpura police registered a case under section 304A and after autopsy deceased body handed over to her parents. Case is under investigation. Sub Inspector G Venkat Ram Reddy said. (INN)

Two software engineers killed in road accident

In a shocking incident, two software engineers died after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree at Pragati nagar in KPHB Colony in the early hours of Saturday.

According to KPHB Police, deceased Sudeep (28) and Uttiya Mukherjee (26), both residents of Bachupally, died after the car in which they were travelling rammed into a tree. Two more persons, M Gaurav and M Ghosh, who were also in the car received severe injuries. They were immediately rushed to a nearest hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare today said he would campaign for 50 independent candidates in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Talking to reporters at Deulgaon-Raja near here, Hazare said he had proposed a 17-point agenda for political parties and these 50 candidates, 12 of them from Maharashtra, had accepted it.

Laxman: BJP’s Dalit face felled by ‘sting’ journalism

Former BJP president Bangaru Laxman, who died here this evening, would be remembered as one of the party’s leading Dalit face who was brought down by ‘sting journalism’ and never recovered from the blow.

Born in a Dalit family on March 17, 1939, Laxman graduated in law while taking active part in politics since his teenage years. He was associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh from the beginning.

He was with Jan Sangh when it was born in 1969 and later rose in ranks in its later avatar BJP.
