BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today attacked the third front, saying the “experiment” will prove “costly” for the country which needed a government that could take decisions and come up to the people’s expectations.

“It is my firm belief that the country is at a decisive stage where such an experiment (of a third front) would prove costly. The country needs a government that can take decisions and come up to the expectations of the people,” he told Hindi daily ‘Dainik Jagran’ in an interview.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind releases public manifesto for general elections 2014

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has released a 15-point Public Manifesto for the Lok Sabha Elections 2014. President of JIH, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari said that they will approach all parties with their demands and support extend their support based on their committeemen.
A gist of the manifesto is given here:
1. “Right to Livelihood” should be recognized as a Fundamental Right through constitutional amendment to ensure food, housing, clothing, education and healthcare to all citizens of the country.
2. Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission Report should be accepted and implemented.

8-year-old boy raped, killed by paedophile

Chandanagar police on Friday arrested a man for kidnapping and killing an eight-year-old boy. According to police Raman Patel, native of Bihar, was working as a labourer in Saisri Developers. Shyamlal Thapa and his wife Sangeeta Thapa also reside near Saisri Apartment along with their son Krishna Thapa. The accused has been close to the family of Thapa for being their neighbour.

Researchers have claimed that living in a socioeconomically deprived region is a risk factor for being affected by diabetes mellitus and obesity.
Researchers from Institute of Health Economics and Health Care Management (IGM) at the Helmholtz Zentrum Munchen (HMGU) and the Department of Epidemiology and Health Monitoring at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in Berlin, found that it holds true regardless of the individual social status of the inhabitants.

Non-Muslims throng to get copies of Quran at Salam Centre Pavilion

Salaam Centre set up its pavilion “Quran for All” on 1200 sq. feet at the International Book Fair that was held from 15th to 23rd February 2014. Nearly 70 thousand copies of Hindi and English translations of Quran, books on Seerat-e-Nabi, books allaying misconceptions of Islam and DVDs on revelation of Quran were gifted to thousands of visitors. A US civil court has awarded a woman a woman from Texas 500,000 dollars after her former boyfriend of seven years posted images and videos from their relationship on YouTube and other sites as a way to harass her after their breakup.

The anonymous woman told ABC that her boyfriend updated her on how many people had seen it, or downloaded it.

While the former boyfriend is reportedly planning to appeal the suit, this civil case has been more successful than others that often fall into a legal gray area, the Verge reported.

Scientists discover 3D structure of enzyme that helps body fight bacteria

Researchers have discovered the 3D structure of an enzyme that cuts to ribbons the genetic material of viruses and helps body defend against bacteria.

Until now, the research community has lacked a structural model of the human form of this enzyme, known as RNase L, said Alexei Korennykh, an assistant professor of molecular biology and leader of the team that made the discovery.

China to launch cargo ship into space by 2016

China is expected to launch a cargo ship into space around 2016 to serve the Tiangong-2 space laboratory, a leading space scientist said Sunday.

The cargo ship, named ‘Tianzhou’ or ‘Heavenly Vessel’, will be delivered by the newly-developed Long March-7 carrier rocket, Xinhua quoted Zhou Jianping, chief designer of China’s manned space programme, as saying.

ATF price hiked by 1%, non-subsidised LPG rate cut by Rs 53

Jet fuel or ATF price has been hiked by a marginal 1% while rates of non-subsidised cooking gas (LPG) have been cut by Rs 53.5 per kg reflecting global trends.

Aviation Turbine Fuel, or ATF, price at Delhi was hiked by Rs 753.34 per kilolitre, or 1%, to Rs 74,825.54 per kl, according to Indian Oil Corp, the nation’s largest fuel retailer.

The hike follows a 3% in rates on February 1 on softening international oil rates. However, prices have gone up since then and rupee depreciated against US dollar, making imports costlier.

Making stalking a non-bailable offence after December 16, 2012 gangrape case was a hurried decision as several facets were missed out, a Delhi court said seeking a mechanism in place to look into the matter.

The observation was made by the court of Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau while sentencing a man, who was obsessed with his ex-girlfriend and used to stalk her even after her marriage, to two years of jail for molestation.

The court also directed the prison authorities to get him treated for “psychotic obsessiveness”.

US President Barack Obama has called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to “de-escalate” tensions in Ukraine and asked him to pull his forces back to bases in Crimea.

“The US calls on Russia to de-escalate tensions by withdrawing its forces back to bases in Crimea and to refrain from any interference elsewhere in Ukraine,” the White House said in a statement yesterday.

Dreamliner problems: Boeing to submit action plan

Aircraft manufacturer Boeing is likely to submit a time-bound action plan to fix the perennial technical problems being faced by the Dreamliners in Air India’s fleet to aviation regulator DGCA next week.

The US airplane manufacturer would submit this plan after being hauled up by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) two days ago over the continued engineering snags faced by the Boeing 787 Dreamliners, official sources said today.

Air India so far has 12 Dreamliners in its fleet out of the 27 it has ordered.
