Need to manufacture medicines from Herbs – Goverdhan Mehta

Addressing the three day international symposium at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, Tarnaka, Dr. Goverdhan Mehta, former VC of Hyderabad University told that many Natural Herbs are available in abundance and hence there is a greater need to exploit these natural resources for the preparation of various medicines. Scientists should explore these possibilities.

Nearly 600 delegates including 14 international and 22 Indian are participating in this Symposium. The other participants include young Researchers and Students.

Renowned Islamic Scholar, Maulana Qamaruzzaman Azmi, Secretary General of World Islamic Mission (UK) inaugurated computer lab at Madina Quranic Mission School, Mehdipatnam branch.

Speaking on this occasion, he told that the students studying in English Medium School are going astray from Islam. He advised the students to study in a systematic way and get laurels to the Community. He also prayed for the welfare of the staff and students of the school.

DGP of A.P. Mr. B. Prasad Rao transferred 31 DSPs. Mr. M.A. Bari ACP CCS has been transferred and posted as ACP Falaknuma whereas Mr. Mohammed Taher Ali ACP has been posted to Cyberabad Crime Branch. Mr. Mohammed Habeeb Khan has been posted to RTC and Mr. Iqbal Siddiqui has been transferred to ACB as DSP. Mr. Shaik Shakeela Banu has been appointed OSD Vijaywada. Mr. N. Ashok Kumar DSP Greyhounds has been transferred as DSP of South Zone, Rajahmundary.

Ministers instructed to vacate their chambers by 7th March

General Administration Dept. issued instructions to all the Ministers of Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy Cabinet to vacate their chambers before 7th March. Many Ministers had already stopped coming to Secretariat before Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy tendering resignation. It is expected that all the Ministers will vacate their chambers.

Governor of A.P. Mr. E.S.L. Narasimhan spoke to Mr. P.K. Mohanthy, Chief Secretary in detail on administrative matters. It is understood that the Governor issued instructions to end petrol dealers strike and to open petrol bunks immediately.

US First Lady to visit China in March

US First Lady Michelle Obama will undertake a visit to China from March 19-26, the White House announced Monday.

The First Lady will be visiting Beijing from March 20-23, Xi’an on March 24, and Chengdu from March 25-26, Xinhua quoted a White House statement as saying.

Michelle will also visit a university and a high school in Beijing, and a high school in Chengdu.

Accompanying the First Lady on this trip will be her mother, Marian Robinson, and daughters — Malia and Sasha Obama, the statement said.

US drone kills three terror suspects in Yemen

A US drone strike targeting an Al Qaeda vehicle killed at least three terrorist suspects and wounded two in Yemen Monday evening, a security official said.

“The US drone fired two missiles on a vehicle carrying Al Qaeda militants, killing three terrorists and wounding two others in a desert road in Radhum region in Shabwa province,” Xinhua quoted the local security official as saying while requesting anonymity.

Over 350,000 families displaced in Syria

There are 350,177 internally displaced families living in shelters inside the country, the Syrian social affairs ministry has revealed.

The number reflects the displaced families registered in local displacement shelters from the country’s 14 governorates, but around 5,878,317 internally displaced people are currently living outside of the protection of the local shelters, reported Xinhua citing recent data by the ministry

Inform on foreigners in Indian jails: Delhi HC to government

The Delhi High Court has directed the central government to inform it on the continued detention of foreigners in Indian jails.

The court was dealing with a letter sent by a Saudi man languishing in Tihar jail in the capital through which the man sought help to go back to his country.

A division bench of Justice P.K. Bhasin and Justice Najmi Waziri ordered the external affairs ministry to appraise the court on the detention of foreigners in Indian jails in general and submit the records pertaining to the Saudi man.

Withdraw security of people with criminal background: HC to UP

The Allahabad High Court on Monday directed Uttar Pradesh government to withdraw security given to 288 public representative, politicians and other persons having criminal background within ten days.

Lucknow Bench of the court said that after withdrawal of these security cover, separate order may be passed only for those cases where there is an actual threat of any nature.

Delhi to see BJP-AAP tussle, NDA ahead in Maharashtra: survey

The BJP and AAP were neck-to-neck in Delhi for the Lok Sabha elections and the NDA would perform better than UPA in Maharashtra, said an election survey released Monday.

The CNN-IBN CSDS February election tracker said that the alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiv Sena and Republican Party of India-Athavale may secure between 23 and 29 seats in Maharashtra if elections were held now, while the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance may secure between 16 and 22 seats.

I have to undergo an endoscopy: Shah Rukh Khan

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is recovering from an injury that he recently sustained on the sets of `Happy New Year`, says he will undergo endoscopy.

On the sidelines of the IAA Leadership Awards here March 1, SRK was asked if he was recovering well.

He said: “I have to undergo an endoscopy now. Inshallah, I don`t have to go under surgery, but endoscopy for sure.”

Shah Rukh had suffered a shoulder fracture on the sets of `Happy New Year` Jan 23. It also left his left knee`s patellar tendon torn and doctors advised him complete rest for two to three weeks.

DMK to finalise seat sharing in two days: Karunanidhi

DMK president M.Karunanidhi Monday said his party would finalise the seat sharing agreement with its alliance partners – VCK, MMK, IUML and PT – in two days as there are no other new parties to align with for fighting the general elections.

Speaking to reporters here, Karunanidhi said there is no space for any new party in the alliance and the seats for the alliance parties will be finalised in two days.

The DMK was hoping to rope in DMDK floated by actor-turned-politician A.Vijayakant as a poll ally. However Vijayakant has not responded to Karunanidhi’s open invitation.

Shakti Mills gang-rape case: Final arguments from March 6

A sessions court trying the Shakti Mills telephone operator gang-rape case will begin hearing final arguments of prosecution and defence from March 6.

“Hearing of final arguments in the case is fixed on March 6,” special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told a news agency today.

Police had arrested Mohammed Ashfaq Sheikh, Mohamed Kasim Hafiz Sheikh alias Kasim Bangali, Salim Ansari, Vijay Jadhav and a minor for raping the 19-year-old in the deserted compound last year on July 31, 2013.

Nitin Gadkari meets Raj Thackeray

In what could create fissures in the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance, former BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Monday met the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray at a hotel here.

Earlier in the day, when reports of the meeting emerged, city BJP chief Ashish Shelar denied them on twitter.

However, a source in BJP, close to Gadkari, said the meeting did take place. “Yes, Gadkari met Raj Thackeray at the Four Seasons hotel in Worli. They had a lunch together. As the two are friends, they discussed various things, including the current political situation,” the source told PTI.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi today asked party MPs to go to the Lok Sabha polls with confidence as she hosted a dinner for them here.

Sources said at least 100 MPs talked to Gandhi during the dinner hosted at Gandhi’s official residence at 10, Janpath. They were served both South Indian and North Indian delicacies.

Due to hectic engagements with Telangana issue, Gandhi was unable to have an interaction with party MPs as there was no valedictory dinner meeting of the parliamentary party during the just-concluded winter session of parliament, the last of the 15th Lok Sabha.

Cops, protesters injured in clashes over Bodoland demand in Assam

Besides disruption of train services, four policemen and 10 protesters were injured in a clash on Monday in lower Assam’s Kokrajhar district during a ‘rail roko’ demonstration called on by a local social-welfare outfit.

Police fired in the air to disperse hundreds of activists and supporters of the Sanmilita Janagosthio Mancha in the Fakiragram railway station who squatted on railway tracks for four hours from 8am disrupting train services, police sources said.

BJP activists burn Khurshid’s effigy for remarks against Modi

A group of BJP activists today burnt an effigy of External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid for his remarks against Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

The activists of the Vasundhara Brigade also demanded an apology from Khurshid for calling BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Modi “napunsak (impotent)”.

Khurshid had last week described Modi as “impotent” while speaking at a rally in Farrukhabad of Uttar Pradesh.

Sex workers want to be treated as equal citizens

On the occasion of the International Sex Workers Day, sex workers from across the country on Monday demanded that they be treated as equal citizens so that they can access various social entitlements offered to citizens in general.

The also wanted to be recognised as unorganised workers and to be brought under the universal pension scheme.

Polio vaccine must for visitors to, from Pak, Nigeria

In a move designed to prevent the entry of the polio virus into India, people travelling to and from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Syria, Kenya, Somalia and Nigeria will have to take the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV), the Ministry of Health said today.

The said countries remain affected by polio, prompting the government to issue these directions weeks after India celebrated the eradication of polio from its soil.

Tribal woman nominated as head of autonomous council

In a first in Meghalaya, a tribal woman is slated to head one of the two tribal autonomous district councils after regional parties decided to nominate her as the Chairperson of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

The All Regional Party Alliance (ARPA), a coalition of the Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) having won seven seats, the United Democratic Party (UDP) with six seats and the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) with four members, nominated a woman to be the chairperson of the council, party sources said.
