Schwarzenegger defends movie violence

Hollywood action star Arnold Schwarzenegger has defended the level of violence in his new movie “Sabotage”, saying that video games are worse.

In the film, the former politician plays a boss within the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), whose members meet an unpleasant end after they rob a drug cartel safe house.

The 66-year-old told The Telegraph that video games are more violent than the movie, reports entertainmentwise.com.

Kabul guest house attackers killed, all foreigners rescued

The Kabul police rescued all foreigners trapped inside a guest house attacked by the Taliban Friday, an interior ministry official said, adding all five attackers were killed in the counter-attack.

“A teenaged girl was killed in first blast on the street and one security guard was wounded in the incident,” Deputy Interior Minister in charge of security Mohammad Ayoub Salangi said in his Twitter account.

Odisha capital sizzles at 41.3 degrees

Odisha capital Bhubaneswar Friday recorded 41.3 degrees Celsius, the season’s highest so far in the state, while seven other towns recorded maximum temperature of 40 degrees Celsius and above, an official said.

Bhubaneswar’s temperature was the season’s highest so far, an official of the Bhubaneswar meteorological centre told IANS.

Seven other towns where mercury soared to 40 degrees and above are Chandbali (40.1), Angul (40.3), Baripada (40.2), Jharsuguda (40), Bhawanipatna (40.5), Bolangir (40.5) and Titlagarh (41).

Delhi HC judgment exposes Congress, BJP: AAP

The AAP Friday welcomed the Delhi High Court’s judgment asking the central government and the Election Commission to take appropriate action against the Congress and the BJP for taking foreign funds in violation of law.

“The landmark judgment by the Delhi High Court holding the Congress and the BJP guilty of taking foreign funds in violation of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act has exposed the deep rooted nexus between these parties and corporate houses,” said a statement from the Aam Aadmi Party.

Gurgaon workers protest colleague’s death in factory

Several workers of a factory here and policemen were injured Friday in a clash over the death of an employee while on duty, police said.

Sunil Pusahkar, a 34-year-old employee of the tailoring division at Orient Craft company here at Sector 18, died after receiving an electric shock, while Sunita and Manju, two women workers, fell unconscious.

Outraged over the incidents, workers came out of the factory and launched a protest.

Police were called in, and fired tear gas shells to control the situation, an official said.

Sunil, who died on the spot, hailed from Kanpur.

Manish Tewari admitted to AIIMS, likely to undergo surgery

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari, who has been unwell for the past several days, was Friday admitted in AIIMS and is expected to undergo a surgery tomorrow.

“He has been admitted and is in a private ward at AIIMS. He will have to undergo a surgery tomorrow,” a source close to the minister said.

The source added doctors of the nephrology department of the institute were attending to the minister’s ailment.

Tewari, 48, has been unwell for quite some time and had undergone hospitalisation at a south Delhi hospital only a few days earlier.

Things could have been handled more ‘gracefully’: Yashwant

Against the backdrop of unhappiness among some senior leaders in BJP in the wake of controversy over denial of ticket to Jaswant Singh, party leader Yashwant Sinha Friday said things could have been done more “gracefully” and “smoothly” to look “more natural”.

HC reserves order on 3% quota for disabled in nursery admissions

Delhi High Court on Friday reserved its order on a plea challenging the Lt Governor’s nursery admission guidelines, which clubs disabled children with those from economically weaker groups (EWS) and seeking three per cent quota for kids with special needs.

A bench of justices S Ravindra Bhat and RV Easwar while reserving its verdict also directed Delhi government to submit fresh data regarding the number of seats at primary and pre-primary level in all the schools, how many of these can accommodate children with special needs, etc.

Benami flats in Adarsh were bought under SC/ST quotas: CBI

Many of the ‘benami’ flats (the flats held in the name of a proxy buyer) in the scam-tainted Adarsh Society here were purchased under the quotas for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and ‘weaker sections of the society’, the CBI has said in its supplementary chargesheet.

“In as many as 22 cases…Flats are allotted to benami-dars under the SC/ST quota,” said the chargesheet, filed Thursday before the Special CBI Judge S C Dighe here.

150 acres devastated by fire in Puerto Rico

About 150 acres of woodland were devastated before dawn in Puerto Rico by a fire in Adjuntas Forest in the central part of the island, authorities said.

Chief of the Puerto Rican fire department, Angel Crespo, said the blaze damaged some 40 percent of the forest and that National Guard helicopters were used to put out the flames.

Though the cause of the fire has not been confirmed, Crespo said that “in all probability” it was deliberately set.

133 FIRs against parties for poll code violations in Delhi

A total of 133 first information reports (FIRs) have been registered against various political parties for infringing the model code of conduct prior to the Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, said poll panel officials.

While 20 FIRs have been registered against the Congress, 13 FIRs have been registered against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), said the official.

“A total of 5 FIRss have been registered against the Bharatiya Janata Party, whereas 85 FIRs are against other political parties,” added the official.

Putin proposes cancellation of Black Sea Fleet agreements

Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday submitted a proposal to the lower house of parliament on terminating a number of Russia-Ukraine agreements over the Black Sea Fleet.

The agreements, signed in 1997, are related to the parameters of division of the Black Sea Fleet as well as the status and conditions of the Russian Black Sea Fleet’s deployment on the territory of Ukraine on reciprocal payments.

Four killed as police, protesters clash in Egypt

At least four people, including a journalist, were killed Friday during clashes between Egyptian security forces and supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi at a neighbourhood in the national capital, official MENA news agency reported.

“The four victims include a female journalist at Dostor online newspaper and a female Copt,” MENA quoted a security official as saying, according to Xinhua.
