I miss my parents: Shah Rukh Khan

The `Badhshah` of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, posted on his Twitter account about missing his parents.

“Talking to boys on the sets…we talked of our parents. Miss my parents now on the drive back from the shoot. They went too early,” Shah Rukh posted on the popular social networking website.

SRK`s father had died of cancer when he was just 15, while his mother passed away in 1990 after prolonged illness, just before Shah Rukh made a stronghold in the industry.

Weapons seized in Kashmir’s Baramulla

Army troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and some ammunition during searches in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district Saturday after a patrol party was fired upon by guerrillas, said a defence spokesman.

“Army today (Saturday) recovered an AK-47 rifle, along with magazine and ammunition in Palhalan area of Baramulla,” he said.

435 in fray for Karnataka’s 28 Lok Sabha seats

As many as 435 candidates are in fray from Karnataka’s 28 Lok Sabha constituencies which will witness single phase polling April 17, a poll official said Saturday.

“As 109 candidates withdrew their nominations, leaving 435 candidates representing mainstream and regional parties and independents contesting from the 28 parliamentary seats,” state chief electoral officer Anil Kumar Jha told reporters here.

Of the total candidates in fray, 412 are men and 23 are women.

Of the total nominations received by the returning officers in all the 28 seats, 544 were found valid.

Action taken on most poll code violation complaints: Poll panel

The Election Commission has received 185 complaints of violations of model code of conduct in West Bengal, with defacement of properties topping the list, and taken action in over a 100 of them, an official said Saturday.

According to assistant chief electoral officer Amitjyoti Bhattacharji, of the 185 cases registered so far since the announcement of Lok Sabha polls March 5, decisive action has been taken in 106 while the remaining 79 are under the scanner.

Countrymen not aware of Gujarat model: Akhilesh

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today said countrymen are not aware of Gujarat model at all which the BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi wants to implement after coming to power.

Air India plane to Kabul diverted back to New Delhi

An Air India plane to Kabul was today diverted back to Delhi after Afghanistan’s main airport was closed because of possible dangers to aircraft in the wake of a Taliban attack on the country’s Election Commission headquarters nearby.

The Air India plane was diverted along with other planes of other carriers as the Kabul airport was closed, an Air India official told PTI.

If the situation normalises and the airport reopens, Air India plans to send a bigger plane accommodating today’s passengers on tomorrow’s flight, the official said.

Drugs valued over Rs.25 crore recovered, one nabbed

A youth was arrested with 8 kg of heroin valued over Rs.25 crore in the international market, police said Saturday.

Anumulagundam Somasekhar, 32, was arrested from the Nizamuddin railway station in the national capital Thursday following a tip-off while he was trying to take the drugs to Hyderabad.

During interrogation, Somasekhar revealed he has an MBA from a Hyderabad institute and took to delivering drugs after suffering heavy loss in his earlier business of stone-crushing.

Over 315 model code violations in Bihar

More than 315 violations of the model code of conduct by candidates and political parties have been registered in Bihar till date, an official said Saturday.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer R. Lakshmanan said candidates from all political parties have been found violating the model code during campaigning for the Lok Sabha poll. So far, 315 cases of violation have been registered since the model code came into force.

These include defacement of public property, misuse of vehicles, illegal meetings and not following the provisions of the Loudspeaker Act.

Kabul gunfight ends, all militants killed

A five-hour gunfight close to Afghanistan’s main election office in Kabul ended Saturday evening after Taliban gunmen were killed in a counter-attack, an official said.

“Five suicide bombers were killed and two policemen were wounded in Saturday’s terrorist attack on the Independent Elections Commission (IEC) office in eastern Kabul,” Deputy Interior Minister in-charge of Security Mohammad Ayoub Salangi told reporters near the site.

Gurgaon civic truck mows down cousins, driver held

Two teenaged boys were Saturday mowed down by a truck of the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon here, police said. The driver was nabbed.

The victims were identified as Praveen Kumar and Pawan Kumar, both 16.

Pawan hailed from Indrapuri in Delhi while Praveen was from Ashok Vihar area of Gurgaon.

Pawan had come to visit his cousin and gone to the Sheetla Mata temple with him.

“The duo were crushed by a over-speeding truck near the temple while crossing the road. They died on the spot,” police officer Dev Charan said.

Vehicle driver Santaj Sheikh, 30, was arrested.
