Kejriwal commences road show in Chandigarh

AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal commenced his road show in Chandigarh on Sunday in support of party candidate Gul Panag for the April 10 election.
Kejriwal arrived here from Haryana where he was on a road show since Friday. Addressing a gathering here, he reiterated that Haryana and Gujarat Chief Ministers Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Narendra Modi were working for industrialist Mukesh Ambani.

Political parties continue slogan war to woo voters

From ‘Self Reliance’ to ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ in early years, Indian election sloganeering has come a long way with major political parties now chanting ‘Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar’ and ‘Main Nahi Hum’.

While Congress is focusing on its commitment to the ‘aam aadmi’ through its slogans, its arch rival BJP has built its campaign around its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for the 16th Lok Sabha elections.

No sex with Russians please, Ukrainian women told

In a light-hearted campaign against Russians in the wake of Moscow’s decision to annex Crimea, campaigners are now urging Ukrainian women not to have sex with Russian men.

The activists from a Ukrainian group under the leadership of Irina Rubis are selling T-shirts with the message ‘Don’t give it to a Russian’ written on it, media reports said.

The T-shirt has a pair of hands making the shape of a vagina.

The proceeds from the sale are being donated to the Ukrainian army, Rubis, CEO of Ekonomica Communication Hub, told NBC News.

Their electoral planks may be diametrically opposite, but both BJP and Congress have taken the same route of ‘bindi’, ‘topi’ or badge to project their symbols and messages to the voters.

The BJP is using saffron coloured bindis, bracelets, caps, badges, sari, kurta, T-shirt, masks and other items to woo voters for its candidates in the fourteen Lok Sabha constituencies in Jharkhand.

Soon after the declaration of separate Telangana State, like any other Dept. The Department of Minorities Welfare will also be bifurcated. Govt. of A.P. has obtained the details of the Dept. of Minorities Welfare and institutions working under it. It is understood that in both the states, the ministries of welfare dept. will function jointly. The Departments of SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities Welfare will function under an officer of the rank of either Chief Secretary or Principal Secretary. For each Dept. there will be a separate Secretary.

Electricity Tariff increase rejected by CEO

Chief Electoral Officer Mr. Bhanwar Lal rejected the proposal of Electricity Regulatory Commission’s proposal to enhance Electricity Tariff and ordered to maintain status quo.

According to official sources, Electricity Regulatory Commission had taken a decision to enhance electricity tariff and had sought permission for it but Mr. Bhanwarlal rejected it.

Court acquits BJP MLA, 50 others in post-Godhra riot case

A local court on Saturday acquitted all 51 accused, including a BJP MLA, due to lack of evidence against them in connection with the 2002 Radhanpur town riot case in which two persons were killed.

Additional Sessions Judge Girish M Damodar said in its order that it was acquitting all the accused, including 25 persons from the Muslim community, besides MLA Shankar Chaudhary, for want of evidence.
Chaudhary is currently MLA from Vav seat in Banaskantha district.

The court also observed the duo were killed in police firing and not in private firing as claimed by prosecution.

Univ of Chicago opens centre in Delhi

The University of Chicago today opened an academic centre here, supporting opportunities for collaboration among scholars and students from India and Chicago across disciplines.

“The opening of the Delhi center is a very important event for the University of Chicago because it represents about our commitment to academic work in India and with India and because of how it reflects the University’s thinking about the importance of its global activities,” University President Robert J Zimmer said during the inauguration.

US Amabassador to India Nancy Powell inaugurated the centre.

Probe source of Modi campaign funds: Virbhadra to EC

Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Saturday urged the Election Commission to probe the sources of crores of rupees being allegedly spent on his election campaign.

Addressing election rallies at Jari, Bhuntar and Jagatsukh in Kullu district in support of Congress candidate, Pratibha Singh, he said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was selling the “Gujarat model of development” through his high profile campaign and asked why Gujaratis were going out of that state for jobs if the state had really made progress.

Rahul to address over a dozen rallies next week

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi will hold over a dozen public rallies in different constituencies across several Indian states between March 31 and April 5, a party statement said Saturday.

On Monday, he will address two rallies in Odisha and one in Chhattisgarh and the following day, two rallies in Jharkhand and another in Bihar.

On March 4, Gandhi will head to Maharashtra to campaign and will hold a rally there followed by two more in Karnataka.

On the last day, he will focus solely on Kerala and will hold four rallies in the southern state.

BJP, Congress survive on black money: Sisodia

Both the BJP and the Congress survive because of black money or illegal foreign funding, AAP leader Manish Sisodia said Saturday.

Addressing a public meeting here, Sisodia said that the Delhi High Court judgement proved that both the major parties were receiving illegal donations from Vedanta Resources, a foreign mining company, which also has operations in Goa.

“Both the Congress and the BJP thrive only on black money or illegal foreign funding. The funding received from Vedanta Resources registered abroad proves that,” said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader.
