Alleging rigging in the municipal elections, former MLA Pinelli Lakshma Reddy created ruckus at a polling station here and broke the EVMs in protest.

Pinelli got agitated after he reportedly caught a person red handed while voting illegally. He questioned the officials about the activity and later lost control. He allegedly abused the polling staff and even threatened to kill them.

Rudraraju slams TDP-BJP-LS proposed alliance

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) Chief Spokesperson Rudraraju Padmaraju on Sunday criticised the proposed alliance between the TDP, BJP and Lok Satta.

Speaking to media persons at Indira Bhavan here, Rudraraju specifically targeted Lok Satta and asked Dr Jayprakash Narayana to explain the motive behind allying with a communal party like BJP. He said that the Lok Satta was formed on the slogan of social justice and by allying with BJP, Dr JP has violated the principals that he claims to follow.

Youth held for hurling slipper at UP CM Akhilesh Yadav

A 25-year-old youth was today detained by police after he threw his slipper at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav while he was addressing a rally at the Ramleela Ground in Kavinagar area here.

The incident took place this afternoon as Yadav started addressing people at the rally. A youth on the spur of the moment stood up from his seat and hurled his footwear at Yadav and protested about the illegal seizure of his land.

BJP’s 18 questions to Chidambaram on economy

Senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha today accused Finance Minister P Chidambaram of “running the economy to the ground” and posed an 18-point questionnaire to him on price rise, economic growth and job fronts.

Sinha, himself a former Finance Minister, claimed that the high economic growth rate witnessed in the first four years of UPA-I (2004-2007) was largely on account of measures initiated by the NDA government and not because of any steps taken by UPA governments.

Congress candidate from Ghaziabad Raj Babbar on Saturday said he would not leave Ghaziabad after winning elections unlike other MPs.

BJP sets Monday deadline for alliance with TDP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has set Monday evening deadline for the Telugu Desam Party to react on the offer of alliance.

Speaking to media persons in a private hotel here on Sunday, Venkaiah Naidu informed that several rounds of talks have already taken place between the two parties. However, the TDP was yet to respond on the alliance offer. Stating that BJP’s national spokesperson Prakash Javedkar has spoke to the senior leaders of TDP on the seat sharing and other related issues, he said that the TDP was trying to lay conditions which were unacceptable to the BJP.

Court reserves order on Tejpal’s plea to meet his mother

A local court on Saturday deferred its order till April 2 on plea of Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal, who is in jail in rape case, seeking to meet his ailing mother twice a week at his North Goa residence.

Tejpal, who is accused of raping his colleague in a starred hotel at an event here last year, had claimed that his mother was suffering from brain tumour and is in the last stage of her life.

The fast track court which heard arguments in the matter reserved its order till April 2.
The crime branch represented by public prosecutor Francis Tavora did not oppose Tejpal’s plea.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday alleged that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is trying to protect the dangerous mentality of people like Imran Masood, who was arrested for his hate speech in which he allegedly threatened to “chop” BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi “into pieces”.

“We have seen the kind of language used by our political opponents. Their political secularism has changed into Taliban secularism. People are going to reject this as they want to go on the path of good governance and development,” said BJP spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

BJP leader Arun Jaitley Friday accused the Congress of using inappropriate language, saying that it started with Sonia Gandhi’s “Maut Ka Saudagar” comment on prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Modi slams Pawar for farmers” suicides in Amravati

Spurned lover throws acid on house owner, daughter

A tenant threw acid on his house owner and her daughter after the latter reportedly turned down his marriage proposal. The incident occurred at Machilipatnam in Krishna district. As per the details Shaik Subhani deserted his wife and two children two years ago. He took a house for rent and had been living there since then. He set his eyes on the house owner’s daughter and asked her to marry him. He told the girl and her parents that he had left his wife as she was sick and needed a healthy wife.

Maqsood Ahmed acquitted by court

Maqsood Ahmed, an alleged aide of slain HuJI commander Mohammed Abdul Shahed aka Bilal was acquitted by the fourth additional metropolitan session judge on Friday, in a terror conspiracy case.

It must be recalled that the city police commissioner’s Task Force sleuths had arrested Maqsood Ahmed, on April 1, 2007, an alleged activist of Darsgah-e-Jihad-o Shahadat, from Ujale Shah Eidgah grounds in Saidabad while he was imparting martial arts training to youth, on the charges of meeting Shahed Bilal in Saudi Arabia and hatching a conspiracy while on a pilgrimage to Holy places there.

Acid attack on two women in AP; assaulter arrested

A mother and daughter were injured in an acid attack by their tenant here in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place last night in Rajupet area when the accused, Subhani, threw acid on his houseowner’s daughter Hajida (26), they said.

The young woman’s mother Zareena also sustained acid burns when she rushed to save her daughter.

BJP says no deal with TDP, will contest alone in Telangana

Telangana unit of BJP on Saturday said the party would fight April 30 Lok Sabha and assembly elections in the region alone, indicating that talks with Chandrababu Naidu-led Telugu Desam Party over sharing of seats have failed.

While announcing the party’s decision to go solo, Telangana unit BJP president G Kishan Reddy said the central leadership would take a final decision in this regard.

Maoists abduct four, kill one in Bihar

Maoists killed one person after abducting him along with three other men from Dhavatand in Jamui district of Bihar, police said on Saturday.

“Maoists abducted four persons and took them to a nearby forest. While three of them were released, one Ajay Koda was held back last night. We recovered his body this morning,” SP Jitendra Rana said.

The four abducted persons were associates of one Pintu Koda gang which had been conducting anti-Maoist activities after the rebels had killed 11 villagers at Phulwaria Kodasi in February 2010, Rana said.

The Char Kaman of Hyderabad

Built in 1592, a year after the formation of Hyderabad, the Char Kaman (the four arches) are of both historical and architectural value.

After the completion of Charminar, at about 75 metres feet to its north, four lofty arches known as Char Kaman were built in 1592. All four arches are at equidistant with each other with Gulzar Houz in the Centre. These arches were built by Sultan Muhammad Quli.

Religious structure constructed at Public Garden, regardless of SC orders

Last year the Supreme Court banned construction of temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras on public places and directed state and central governments to refuse permission for the same. But the elements who want to disrupt peace ignored Supreme Court orders. Public Garden (Bagh-e-Aamma) has its unique identity. Located in the heart of the city of Hyderabad the Public Garden was built in 1846 by Osman Ali Khan, the VIIth Nizam of Hyderabad. Osman Ali Khan also built a museum in 1920 in the premises. After police action the museum was named Andhra Pradesh State Museum.

Court sentences youth to death for raping, killing minor

A local court has sentenced a a youth to death in connection with the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl.

District Judge Om Prakash Awarwal awarded the capital punishment to Chhotkau (30) for raping and killing the minor girl in Semgatha village on March 8, 2012.

The accused was later arrested by the police.

2L force, thousands of vehicles, dozen choppers for LS polls

More than two lakh gun-toting paramilitary personnel, thousands of vehicles and nearly a dozen helicopters will be deployed across the country to ensure smooth and violence-free elections beginning April 7.

During the nine-phased polls, spread over nearly two months, the Home Ministry has chalked out the deployment plan for 543 constituencies having a total electorate of 81.4 crore with the special focus on violence-hit states.
