Andhra Pradesh urban local bodies polls pass off peacefully

Barring a few incidents, polling in urban local bodies elections in Andhra Pradesh passed off peacefully today with nearly 75 per cent of electorate casting their votes.

State Election Commissioner P Ramakanth Reddy said that elections were held for 145 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations.

“Except one or two incidents, nothing untoward was reported during polls. Re-polling may be held in seven polling stations. Reports indicate that the overall polling would be in the range of 75 per cent,” Reddy told reporters, adding that polling crossed 80 per cent in some places.

I Didn’t accept T Congress chief post: Danam

Former minister Danam Nagender today said he did not accept Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president post offered by the party high command.
Addressing a meeting of party activists at his constituency, Nagender maintained that he denied the TPCC chief post as one leader cannot hold two posts at a time. There was an argument among political circles that a leader cannot hold two posts simultaneously, he said. He said being an MLA, he can offer services to the constituency in a better way.

TDP is thinking of releasing two separate manifestoes — one for Telangana and another for Seemandhra, senior leader Somireddy Chandrasekhar Reddy said here today.
As a gift of Ugadi, TDP supremo is likely to release manifestoes in a day or two, he told the media at NTR Trust Bhavan. The party has incorporated the BC declaration in its manifesto. State Election Commissioner Ramakanth Reddy today ordered an inquiry into the incident of breaking of an Electronic Voting Machine at Macherla in Guntur district.

Lost jet search remains futile but continues

The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 1,850 km west of Perth concluded Sunday with no headway as ships retrieved objects that could not be related to the aircraft, Australian authorities said.

“Search activities for Sunday have now concluded. Approximately 252,000 sq km were searched,” the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) said in its latest update.

23 killed in insurgent attacks in Iraq

At least 16 soldiers and seven civilians were killed in separate militant attacks in Iraq Sunday, police said.

In northern Iraq, gunmen attacked an army base in the wee hours in Aiyn al-Jahash area in the city of Mosul, leaving seven soldiers killed, Xinhua reported citing a police source.

In Anbar province in the western region, a suicide bomber blew up his explosives-laden vehicle at a major bridge in the provincial capital city of Ramadi, some 110 km west of Baghdad, killing seven people and wounding 11 others.
