US airlines complying with China’s new ‘self-declared airspace’ demands

U.S. airline officials have confirmed that they were complying with new Chinese government demands to alert China before any flights pass through the country’s new self-declared air-defense zone over the East China Sea.

The demands from Beijing have resulted in tensions with Japan and the United States.

United, American and Delta airlines told CNN that its pilots were following America’s advice and complying with Beijing’s ‘air defense identification zone’.

UPA insensitive to people’s plight alleges BJP

Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Sunday criticised the UPA for raising the price of diesel, and said the government is insensitive to the plight of the people.

“The present government is insensitive to the plight of the people. Government is still increasing the prices of diesel, petrol and LPG. Earlier they used to attribute this increase to the global prices. But now the prices of crude oil are decreasing in the whole world. So why this raise?” Naqvi said.

Former Australian fast bowler Nathan Bracken has revealed that he took a legal action against Cricket Australia (CA) because there was no protection or worker’s compensation in place for a player whose career was curtailed by injury.

The 35-year-old Bracken, who was forced to retire in 2011 after a chronic right knee injury left him with a permanent disability, walks with a pronounced limp and the problem was considered bad enough to entitle him to disabled parking.

Ajman hoping to set world record by creating giant greeting card

In an attempt to set a Guinness World Record, Ajman’s tourism development department is creating the largest greeting card mosaic that may take up over 110,000 square metres.

According to Gulf News, four thousand volunteers, along with staff from private companies and personnel from government departments, will be taking part in the event.

Barack and Michele Obama have revealed that they don’t allow the younger daughter Sasha to have a Facebook account.

The US president and his wife told Barbara Walters on ABC’s 20/20 that the oldest daughter Malia, 15, has limited access to the social networking site, People Magazine reported.

The 1st lady said that she is still not a big believer in Facebook for young people, particularly for her kids, because they’re in the public eye.

She added that they don’t need to see some of its stuff and be a part of, so they try to protect them from too much of the public voice. (ANI)

Modi to address ‘Lalkar rally’ in Jammu today

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will address ‘Lalkar rally’ in Jammu today.

According to television reports, the Gujarat chief minister will arrive in Jammu around 11 a.m. along with senior BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley .

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the state and especially along all routes leading to the venue of the rally, the Maulana Azad Maidan Jammu.

Jammu and Kashmir police and Central Reserve Paramilitary Forces have set up barricades on all roads leading to the venue.

Orbiter successfully placed in Mars Transfer Trajectory

Crossing a major milestone in the country’s space history, ISRO’s Mars Orbiter mission today ventured out of Earth’s sphere of influence for the first time in an attempt to reach the red planet’s orbit.

The critical manoeuvre to place the Mars Orbiter Spacecraft in the Mars Transfer Trajectory was successfully carried out almost an hour past midnight.

During this manoeuvre, which began at 00:49 hours, the spacecraft’s 440 Newton liquid engine was fired for about 22 minutes providing a velocity increment of 648 metres/second to the spacecraft.

Rajasthan assembly polls: Kataria casts vote, says elections only solution to all problems

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday cast his vote and said elections are the only solution to the problems of the country.

“See there is only one solution to all the problems of the country, that is election. It is unfortunate that political parties have not projected the voter adequately. That’s why they have to do this drama,” said Kataria, who is contesting from Udaipur (City) constituency, is fielded against Congress’s Dinesh Shrimali.

Rajasthan polls: 20 pc voting till 12 noon

After a slow start, polling picked up rapidly as the day progressed with 20 per cent of 4.08 crore voters of Rajasthan exercising their franchise in the assembly elections till 12 noon.

Dausa district recorded highest turn out of 23.34 followed by Rajsamand where 22.31 per cent voters cast their votes till noon, according to state election commission office.

Voting percentage in Bundi, Tonk, SriGanganar was 17, 14.7 and 11 per cent respectively whereas the state capital registered a low turn out of 7.58 per cent.

SC frames guidelines for determining live-in relations

Duration of relation, shared household and pooling of resources are some of the guidelines the Supreme Court has framed for bringing live-in relationship within the expression ‘relationship in the nature of marriage’ for protection of women under Domestic Violence (DV) Act.

A bench of justices K S Radhakrishnan and Pinaki Chandra Ghose said though the eight guidelines are not exhaustive, these will definitely give some insight to such relationships.

ARE U READY? AAI plans to install full-body scanners at 2 airports in India

The national airports operator Airports Authority of India (AAI) will soon install millimeter-wave technology-based full-body scanners at two non-metro airports on a trial basis, sources have said.

So far, none of the 125 AAI-run and five privately-operated airports have such a crucial security equipment.

“We have received two full-body scanners from GE Corp of the US, which we are going to install at two airports on a trial basis,” AAI sources told PTI.

9 killed in landslide in China

Nine people were killed and two others injured in a landslide at an open-pit coal mine in north China’s Shanxi Province, local officials said.

The last buried person was found alive around midnight and is being treated in a local hospital, said the landslide rescue headquarters said.

The accident took place on Wednesday and it was reported today by the official media.

Pune cops to probe Facebook threats to NCP lawmaker

Pune police will probe death threats Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state executive president Jeetendra Awhad is getting over social networking site Facebook by some unknown people, an official said here Sunday.

Sangavi police station head Saifan Mujavar said the threats were posted on a particular Facebook page, whose origins police are trying to trace to identify the unknown culprits.

Thane legislator Awhad, 48, has allegedly been targeted for his utterances against some right-wing groups following the killing of rationalist Narendra Dabholkar in Pune Aug 20.

‘Reset’ Pakistan’s India policy, Sharif told

A leading Pakistani newspaper Sunday asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to “reset” policies vis-a-vis India as well as other “enormously complicated” issues.

Sharif has been in office for five months, and it was time he took direct charge of issues such as militant threats, Afghanistan, India and Balochistan, the Dawn said in an editorial.

Pakistan’s new army chief, Gen. Raheel Sharif, may take time to settle down, it said, adding the prime minister must not waste time but “examine and reset” the country’s policies.

Tejpal remanded to six days in police custody

A Goa court Sunday remanded Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal to six days in police custody.

Crime Branch officials told the court that custodial interrogation of Tejpal was necessary to obtain a confession from him. They had sought 14 days remand for Tejpal.

Tejpal is expected to be quizzed by police inspector Sunita Sawant, the investigating officer, about the series of events leading to the alleged rape of a woman colleague and his later flip flops.

The Army would take steps to keep at bay terrorists and other subversive elements who might try to interfere with the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections due next year, a top Army officer said.

“We are not concerned if people vote or not. However, there is no doubt that terrorists might try to interfere with the election process and we will ensure that they do not get the space to carry out their evil designs,” General officer Commanding of the Army’s 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmit Singh said.

Heavy security in Jammu city ahead of Modi’s rally

Strong 6.3 quake jolts eastern Indonesia: USGS

A strong 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit eastern Indonesia today but there was no tsunami alert, seismologists said.

The quake struck at 10:24 am local time (0654 IST), 351 kilometres east-northeast of the East Timor capital Dili at a relatively shallow depth of 10 km, the US Geological Survey said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center did not issue any alerts following the tremor in the remote region at the eastern end of the Indonesian archipelago between the islands of Timor and New Guinea.

In an initial assessment, the USGS said there was a low likelihood of damage or casualties.
