AP police installs 500 new CCTVs under ‘Safe City’ project

City project, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) B Prasada Rao on Tuesday said.

“The actual requirement in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad and Cyberabad Commissionerate is 3,000 plus and gradually we will scale up the CCTV installation to that level,” Prasada Rao told reporters here.

The state government had in June promulgated ‘AP Public Safety (Measures) Enforcement Act-2013’, which makes it mandatory to put in place certain public safety measures in all establishments in view of recurring incidents of terror attack in the city.

Rains lash parts of UP, give slight relief from cold

Light to moderate rains drenched a few places in western parts of Uttar Pradesh, causing temperatures to rise slightly, even as the weather remained mainly dry in eastern parts of the state.

Bareilly, Jhansi, Agra, Aligarh, Shahjahanpur and Orai each recorded 1 cm rainfall, MeT department said.

The minimum temperature rose largely in Meerut, Kanpur, Lucknow and Agra divisions and rose markedly in Moradabad division.

It rose appreciably in Faizabad, Allahabad, Bareilly and Jhansi divisions and rose in Gorakhpur and Varanasi divisions.

Congress’s Mateen Ahmed is Delhi’s pro-tem speaker

Congress legislator Mateen Ahmed will be the pro-tem speaker of the Delhi assembly, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Tuesday.

“We proposed his (Ahmed’s) name… he will be the pro-tem speaker,” Kejriwal told reporters.

The names of Bharatiya Janata Party leader Jagdish Mukhi and Janata Dal-United legislator Shoaib Iqbal were also proposed but both of them declined, Kejriwal said.

The pro-tem speaker administers the oath to all newly-elected legislators and presides over the assembly until a new speaker is elected.

BJP youth wing protests against Himachal CM in front of Rahul’s house

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, on Tuesday protested in front of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s house here, condemning Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, who has been accused of graft. The protestors gathered in front of Rahul’s 12, Tughlak Lane residence, and raised anti-Congress slogans. Some even tried to cross the steel and iron barricades. The protestors led by BJP leader and BJYM president Anurag Thakur, demanded action against Virbhadra Singh.

After water, electricity rates slashed by 50 percent in Delhi

The Delhi Government on Tuesday decided to slash the electricity rates in the city by 50 percent. The decision was taken in a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Addressing a press conference after the end of the Cabinet meeting, Kejriwal announced, “Till the time the audit of the power distribution companies is completed, we had a cabinet meeting and we discussed how we can provide relief to the poor people of Delhi. It was decided that the rates from 0-200 and 201-400 units consumption of electricity, will slashed by 50 percent.

Kejriwal meets CAG, discusses possible audit of power discoms

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Shashi Kant Sharma on Tuesday and is reported to have discussed ways to go about auditing the finances of the three private power distribution companies that supply power across the national capital.

Though a final decision is to be taken by the Delhi Cabinet on the issue later this evening, Kejriwal is reported to have given the power discoms less than 24 hours to state in writing why they should or should not be audited.

US population growth rate slowest in decades

An expert has revealed that America’s population is growing at its slowest rate in decades, blaming it on its sluggish economy.

The US population grew by just 0.72 percent in the year ended July 1, 2013, according to the Census Bureau. That’s the slowest growth rate since 1937, the Huffington Post reported.

Population growth has hovered at super-low levels for the past few years, according to William Frey, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a nonpartisan research organization.

According to PC World, Samsung said that by combining four of them, a high-end smartphone or tablet could get 4GB of RAM. The memory increase and performance improvement offered by Samsung”s chip will result in faster, more responsive applications. The product also consumes less power than current memory chipsets, the company said.

Officer detains Indian man’s passport in Sharjah over dislike of moustache

An Indian passenger’s passport was allegedly retained at Sharjah airport, because the passport control officer did not like his moustache.

Officials at the Sharjah Department of Naturalisation and Foreign Affairs are investigating the case, Gulf News reported.

Brigadier Dr Abdullah Bin Sahoo, Director-General of the department, said they will study CCTV images to check whether the passenger’s allegations are correct and will then take action.

Leaders’ exit would not harm Congress party: Kondru

Medical Education Minister Kondru Murali Mohan on Tuesday said that the exit of senior leaders including ministers and MLAs would not harm the Congress party.

Speaking to media persons here, Kondru said that the Congress party would not weaken with some senior leaders leaving the party. He said there were about 300 second line leaders in each Assembly constituency who would replace the old ones. Therefore, he said that it was wrong to assume the exodus would harm the Congress party.

Justin Bieber’s two bodyguards, Hugo Hesny and Michael Arana, were recently arrested after attacking a cop in Florida. According to a police report obtained by TMZ.com, while Hesny was arrested for battery on a law enforcement officer, Arana was put behind bars for disorderly conduct.
