UPA holding back funds for Uttar Pradesh: SP

The Samajwadi Party (SP) accused the Congress led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government at the centre of holding back Rs.30,000 crore meant as central funds for Uttar Pradesh.

Criticising the Congress for its “double talk” party spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary Monday said that despite a positive environment of development and cordial relationship created by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, the Congress-led government had so far released only 20 percent of the central funds earmarked for Uttar Pradesh.

Sebastian Vettel wins Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Reigning Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel captured the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to clinch a seventh straight victory and 11th of the season.

Six killed in militant attack in Assam

At least six people were killed and ten were injured when suspected cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) fired indiscriminately at some people at a remote village in Assam’s Goalpara district Sunday night, police said.

The incident took place at a remote village called Gendabari, located on the Assam-Meghalaya border. According to police, all the victims were engaged in gambling organised on the occasion of Diwali.

India’s GVK gets approval for largest Australian coal mine

Australia’s federal government has given a mega Diwali gift to India’s GVK group by approving the gigantic coal mining project in Queensland state in the country’s northeast.

Environment Minister Greg Hunt approved the 37,380 hectare Kevin’s Corner project Friday.

“We commend the Federal Government on its thorough environmental assessment process and its decision to approve this significant project that will create immense employment opportunities,” GVK Reddy, founder chairman and managing director of the Indian conglomerate, said in a media release.

Police station needed in Tolichowki area

Six men gang-rape 16-yr old girl in Goregaon

Another incident of gang-rape has surfaced to shame Mumbai as a 16 year old was gang-raped by six men in Goregaon on the night of November 01, reports said Monday.

The accused were known to the victim and had called her to participate in Diwali puja celebrations on Friday night. However, instead of escorting her home, they drove her to a secluded place and raped her.

A case has been registered against all the accused, who are reportedly in their twenties.

The case was registered at Dindoshi Police Station, under IPC section 376(G).

Yousuf slams PCB for playing with cricketers’ careers

Former Pakistan captain Muhammad Yousuf has slammed the Cricket Board (PCB) for playing with the careers of the national cricketers.

“There are some people in the cricket system with vested interests and inflated egos and they don’t even care if their decisions hurt Pakistan cricket. I have seen many examples of this in the past,” Yousuf said.

Shunned from the national team since 2010, Yousuf blasted the board hierarchy for not respecting their senior players, who have done a lot for Pakistan cricket.

Suicide blasts rock police HQ in central Iraq

At least three suicide bombings struck a police headquarters in the restive central Iraqi city of Baquba today, killing three policemen, security and medical officials said.

The blasts went off at about 8:00 pm (2230 IST) and were followed by clashes in the surrounding area of Mafreq, with officials warning the casualty toll could rise as medical teams did not have full access to the sites.

An initial car bomb was detonated by a suicide bomber outside the headquarters of a police battalion in Mafreq, and in the ensuing chaos, another suicide bomber blew himself up.

Syria says Kerry statements threaten peace talks

The Syrian foreign ministry today denounced comments by US Secretary of State John Kerry on Syria, saying they could cause proposed peace talks on the 31-month conflict to fail.

A statement said that remarks by Kerry “threaten to cause the failure of the Geneva conference, are a flagrant violation of Syrian affairs and an aggression against the Syrian people’s right to decide their future.”

‘Palestinian refusal of Jewish homeland root of conflict’

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today said the Palestinian refusal to recognise the Jewish people’s right to a homeland is the root of the ongoing conflict in the region.

Netanyahu’s remarks came a day after the Palestinians dubbed ‘Balfour declaration’, calling for a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine, the “biggest political crime in contemporary history.”

“That declaration recognised the right of the Jewish people to its own homeland in Israel,” Netanyahu today said at the start of a weekly cabinet meeting.
