Naidu’s wife got hunger strike ended

Wife of Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, Ms. Bhvaneshwari went to NIMS Hospital and offered juice to agitating MLA’s to end their hunger strike. MLA’s ended their strike on receiving instructions from Mr. Naidu.

TDP MLA’s had started hunger strike against he Govt’s proposal to raise power tariff. Police had shifted these MLA’s forcibly to NIMS Hospital. These MLA’s were continuing their Hunger Strike in hospital also.

Ms. Bhuvaneshwari enquired about their health and got the hunger strike ended.

Land value in rural and urban areas increased

Govt. issued orders to increase land value in rural, urban and cantonment areas. It issued G.O. Ms. No. 157 yesterday. Instructions have been issued to District Collectors and District Registrars in this regard.

There was a rush of people in Registration offices in view of raising land value with effect from 1st April 2013.

Govt. sources indicated that due to hike in land value Rs. 1446 crore could be collected.

Less rain and non supply of gas and coal are the reasons for power tariff hike – Bakshi

Attention has been concentrated on taking alternate steps for the supply of electricity and it is hoped that the energy crisis would be resolved very soon.

Talking to newsmen yesterday in Hyderabad. Mr. A.S. Bakshi, Chairman of Central Electricity Regulatory Authority told it. He said that shortage of electricity is the result of non-availability of coal and gas and also in adequate rainfall. He admitted that energy crisis in the Southern States is getting serious. Central Govt. would take necessary steps to ensure proper supply of energy.

CPI demands to withdraw power tariff hike

CPI condemned the proposal of the Govt. to raise electricity charges and demanded to withdraw it immediately, otherwise a massive agitation would be launched. Talking to newsmen, state secretary of CPI, Dr. K. Narayana said that by raising power tariff, Govt. is overburdening public to the tune of Rs. 6700 crore.

He told that the nexus between the Govt. and the State Electricity Regulatory Authority have been exposed to public.

A thief in police custody attempts suicide due to police harassment

Mr.Syed Shujaath Ali, resident of Kotla Alijah created panic when he attempted to commit suicide in Chandrayangutta police station by cutting his throat with blade.

He was rushed to hospital and a case to attempt murder was registered against him. He was involved in a case in Saifabad which occurred in 2010. Since then, policemen belonging to Chandrayangutta and Meer Chowk police stations are harassing him.

He blamed Meer Chowk police crimes inspector, Mr. Nayak and sub-Inspector, Mr.Anivesh Reddy and Constable, Mr. Srikanth that they demanded Rs 50 thousand as bribe.

Storm rocks Bengal; 2 dead, 30 injured in Asansol

A strong storm that rocked West Bengal on Saturday left two dead and over 30 injured in the Asansol sub division of Burdwan district.

Agencies reported that the storm blew away homes and shelters thereby rendering hundreds homeless.

Slain DSP’s wife to depose before CBI today

The wife of slain DSP Zia-ul-Haq, Parveen Azad, is scheduled to depose before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday.

On Saturday, the CBI questioned former Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh’s cousin and member of state legislative council Akshay Pratap Singh in connection with the violence in Balipur village.

CBI sources said Akshay Pratap Singh was questioned in detail about his whereabouts on the day of incident in which village head Nanhe Yadav, his brother Suresh and Haq were allegedly murdered during violence arising over a land dispute on March 02.

Anna Hazare to begin ‘Janatantra Yatra’ from Amritsar today

Social activist Anna Hazare is likely to kick-off his ‘Janatantra Yatra’ from here on Sunday.

Hazare will address eight public rallies in Punjab during his five-day ‘Yatra’.

He along with his band of activists will begin a series of public rallies while carrying 25-point agenda under the banner of ‘Janatantra Yatra’ to garner people’s support against the Congress-led UPA Government.

Earlier on Saturday, Anna had said that he had written to political parties to join him but none came forward.

OIC calls meet on Myanmar violence

Foreign ministers of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will meet on April 14 in Jeddah to discuss deadly violence against Muslims in Myanmar, announced OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu here Saturday.

Addressing a contact group meeting on violence against Myanmar Muslims known as Rohingyas, he said that the OIC was “ready to take all necessary measures and actions to deal with it.”

Ready for any North Korean threat, in touch with South: US

Amid escalating tension in the Korean peninsula after recent aggressive statements by North, the US has said it is in close touch with it’s South Korean allies and is prepared for any possible threat from Pyongyang.

“We’ve seen reports of a new and unconstructive statement from North Korea. We take these threats seriously and remain in close contact with our South Korean Allies,” said Caitlin Hayden, spokesperson of the National Security Council.

Zardari heads to Dubai to placate Bilawal

President Asif Ali Zardari today embarked on a two-day visit to Dubai amidst reports that the trip was aimed at persuading his son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to return to the country and lead the Pakistan People’s Party’s election campaign.

The 24-year-old Bilawal had left for Dubai over a week ago after a tiff with his father over the affairs of the PPP.

A source in the PPP said that Zardari had gone to Dubai on a “private visit” and the main purpose of his trip was to placate Bilawal.

Assange may be unable to leave Britain until 2015

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been confined to the Ecuadorean embassy in London since last June, is unlikely to be able to leave Britain before 2015 and his hosts are now hoping for a future Labour government to help break the impasse, a media report said.

The Ecuadorean government has been seeking a commitment from the UK’s Conservative-led coalition that it will not support Assange’s extradition to the US if he goes to Sweden to face allegations of sexual assault.

Speaker N. Manohar issued notices to nine legislators each of Congress and TDP after their respective parties submitted petitions, seeking their disqualification. These legislators had defied the whips issued by their respective parties to support no-confidence motion moved by Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the assembly against the Congress government a few days ago.

Teenager mowed down by train in Assam

An 18-year-old girl was killed on the spot after being hit by a speeding train at Dima Hasao Hills district of Assam on Saturday.

Official sources said the Nibedita Kemprai was hit by the Barak Valley Express at around 9.30 am near Old Maibang area.

It is not clear whether it was an accident or a case of suicide.

MNS takes out morcha, demands death penalty for rapist

Hundreds of irate citizens from Thane under the banner of Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navanirman Sena (MNS) today took out a protest morcha to the office of the District Collector and Police commissioner to demand death sentence for the vendor who allegedly raped a three year old girl on Wednesday. The police arrested the accused Mohan Chotu Singh, a local vendor who had allegedly wooed the kid under the pretext of giving her a chocolate, took her to an isolated locality and raped her.

NIS cook rapes minor girl at his official residence

A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a cook, working with the National Institute of Sports In Patiala. 45-year-old Ram Verma raped the victim, a relative, at his official residence outside the NIS campus on Thursday night, police said. He was arrested on Saturday.

Few days ago, the girl’s family had gone to their village leaving her under Verma’s care. On the night of Thursday, Verma reached home drunk and allegedly raped the minor girl. Next morning, the girl approached the neighbours, who took her to senior NIS officials.

US delegation to Narendra Modi paid own expenses: BJP

The BJP Saturday clarified that the US business leaders delegation that met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi this week paid their own travel, hotel and food expenses and no state government in India sponsored their visit.

The clarification came after media reports said the visit was “privately organised”. The Congress also alleged that the visitors were paid for the visit.

Aamir Khan, who played a cop struggling to cope with the death of his young son in Talaash, says the film was “emotionally exhaustive”.

“The role of Talaash was tough. The loss of the son in the film was emotionally exhausting. I had to start shooting thinking something really traumatic as that would set my mood,” Aamir told reporters today at an event.

Aamir said he had to go deep into the “space of loss” to step into the shoes of his character on the screen.

State power regulator okays hike in tariff in Andhra Pradesh

The state power regulator today allowed increase in power tariff for various categories that would impose an additional financial burden of Rs 6,173 crore on power consumers in Andhra Pradesh even as all opposition parties strongly denounced the move.

The new tariff schedule issued by Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) today for 2013-14 will come into effect from April 1 with an average increase of 58 paise per unit on low-tension category consumers and Rs 1.12 per unit on high-tension category consumers.
