There are indications that Telangana Nagara chief and MLA Nagam Janardana Reddy and his group might join the TRS soon.

Nagam who has come out of TDP protesting against its chief Chandra Babu Naidu’s non-committal stand on Telangana has been continuing to fight for Telangana under his banner Telangana Nagara Samiti. TDP MLAs Hariswar Reddy and Venugopalachary have also quit the party and were with Nagam since then.
After quitting TDP, Nagam has also resigned to the Assembly and got re-elected as an independent member.

Kejriwal digging holes in democracy, BJP says

The BJP’s mouthpiece Kamal Sandesh Tuesday said India Against Corruption (IAC) activist Arvind Kejriwal is “digging holes in democracy with foreign funds”.

The editorial in the latest issue of Kamal Sandesh said: “One who could not remain loyal to Anna, how can he be loyal to the nation? He (Kejriwal) is digging holes in democracy with foreign funds.”

It also hit out at Kejriwal over his attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari, saying that Kejriwal had “distorted” information provided by the party leader.

After skipping poll campaign in Himachal Pradesh, BJP president Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday cancelled his meeting in New Delhi with Karnataka leaders and asked the party leadership to handle the political situation in the state where B S Yeddyurappa is adamant on forming his own party.

55 villages to get broadband connectivity: Pitroda

Pesky calls and messages are a menace not only for common people but also for Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal, who said that he too is a victim of the unsolicited communications and has discussed these issues with telecom regulator.

“Trai is taking it up (pesky calls/SMSes issue). I also face lot of problem. Every two minutes I get such SMS,” Sibal told reporters at the Worldwide Cybersecurity Summit here.

KNPP unit-I to be operational shortly: Sinha

The much-delayed Kudankulam nuclear power project is expected to become operational shortly, Ratan Kumar Sinha, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission said on Tuesday.

“The work on the construction of the first of the two 1000 MW Light Water Reactors (LWRs) at Kudankulam is complete,” Sinha said addressing a function in Mumbai to commemorate the 103rd birth anniversary of Homi Jehangir Bhabha, the founder of India’s nuclear programme.

“The operation of unit-1 is expected to commence shortly and the commissioning of the second unit is expected to follow early next year,” he said.

Delhi reports 36 new dengue cases

With 36 new cases reported Tuesday alone, the resurgent dengue in the national capital is inching towards the 1,000 cases mark. The total of patients reported this season now stands at 985, official data revealed.

Of 36 new cases, 10 were reported each from the East Delhi Municipal Corporation and the North Delhi Municipal Corporation areas, while the remaining 16 occurred in the South Delhi Municipal Corporation area, the data showed.

Since dengue hit the capital this year, South Delhi Municipal Corporation continues to top the list with 371 cases so far this year from areas under it.

JD-U on Tuesday attacked criticised the shifting of S Jaipal Reddy from Petroleum to Science and Technology Ministry in the Cabinet reshuffle alleging that he was “punished” to “appease” industrial giant Reliance.

Cauvery issue: SC directs CMC to make recommendation

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Cauvery Monitoring Committee (CMC) to examine and make recommendations on all issues likely to be raised by Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over the sharing of Cauvery water at the panel’s scheduled meeting on Wednesday.

“We hereby direct CMC to examine all issues as may be raised on behalf of the states and make recommendations,” a bench comprising Justices D.K. Jain and J.S. Khehar said.

The bench said both the states shall comply with all the recommendations made by the CMC in letter and spirit.

SBI indicates cut in lending rate soon

Within hours of RBI slashing the cash reserve ratio (CRR) by 0.25 per cent, SBI on Tuesday hinted at a likely reduction in lending rates soon.

“Our bank, it’s for Alco (asset liability committee) to take a view. But we would prefer a more secular rate cut with the adjustment in the base rate because we have almost (done) rebalancing of the portfolio… but it is for Alco to take a final view,” SBI Chairman Pratip Chaudhuri said.

“I think our Alco would meet in a day or two,” he said.

Old Hyderabad tense after communal clashes

The old city of Hyderabad was tense Tuesday, a day after communal clashes over flags being burnt left 10 people injured.

There was no untoward incident since Tuesday morning, a police official said, adding that 17 people were arrested for the violence that broke out late Monday in Kulsumpura area of the city.

The violence, which broke out after unidentified people set ablaze religiously significant flags, resulted in 10 people, including three policemen, being injured. Five shops were also set ablaze. An assistant commissioner of police was among those injured.
