Concerned over recurring problems in MiG-27 combat aircraft engines, Indian Air Force is planning to phase out these Russian-origin planes by 2017.

IAF operates about 80 (four squadrons) of these aircraft in its fleet and due to the recurring problems in their engines, it had to ground all of them after a crash about two years ago.

“We are planning to phase out the MiG-27s, of which around 80 are still in service, by the year 2017,” senior IAF officials told a news agency here.

Unfazed by the strong opposition to allowing FDI in retail even from some allies, the government today made it clear that the decision will not be rolled back as it is in the interest of farmers and consumers.

Addressing a group of farmers here, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma said foreign direct investment (FDI) in multi-brand retail trading will help farmers in getting good price for their produce besides creating lakhs of jobs.

A cameraman who accompanied Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad at the UN General Assembly here has stayed back and applied for an asylum in the US over fears of being persecuted in his home country, a media report said today.

The Bombay High Court has commuted life-term of a man who killed his wife, to eight years, observing that the crime was committed on the spur of the moment after he saw his wife in a compromising position with
another man.

A division bench of Justices V M Kanade and P D Kode acquitted Vishwanath Shelar under the serious charge of murder and instead convicted him for culpable homicide and sentenced him to eight years in jail.

Shelar who has already spent over eight years pending his trial will now be released.

Ingredients:
Chana Dal – 1 kg
Ghee – 2 kgs
Almonds – 1/2 kg, finely ground
Saffron – 1 tsp, soaked in milk and ground
Sugar – 3 kgs
Semolina – 1 kg

Method:
1. Boil the dal and strain through a cloth.
2. Squeeze out all the water and mash well.
3. Heat half the ghee in a large pan and fry the dal till it turns brown and the ghee separates.
4. Drain out the extra ghee.
5. Add ground almonds, saffron and sugar.
6. Cook to make a mixture that is pliable but neither too soft nor too dry. (this is called Puran)

Saudi Arabia today beheaded a Syrian for drug smuggling, the interior ministry announced in a statement carried by the official SPA news agency.

Abdulrahman al-Sweidan was “arrested as he was attempting to smuggle large quantities of narcotic pills into the
kingdom,” SPA reported. He was beheaded by sword in the northern region of Jawf.

That brings to 61 the number of people executed in Saudi Arabia so far this year, according to an AFP tally based on
official reports.

Amnesty International says 79 people were put to death in the Gulf kingdom last year.

Whole Green Chillies – 4
Water – 1/2 cup

Method:
1. Mix besan, yogurt, salt, sugar, ginger paste, chilli paste and turmeric powder to make a smooth batter.
2. Heat a steamer.
3. Grease a baking dish.

BJP today alleged that instead of coming clear on whether expenses for UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s travel and treatment were paid from public exchequer and what was the amount spent, Congress is diverting attention by saying the opposition is raising issues about her health.

A skeleton wearing a pair of jeans and a t-shirt was found in Kalimpong area of Darjeeling district on Tuesday, the police said.

Local people found the skeleton inside a jungle near Lower Bang bustee close to a stream and informed the police.

A pen was attached to the t-shirt while a bone of one of the skeleton’s legs was broken, the sources said.

The gender of the skeleton was yet to be ascertained, the sources said, adding that it was being sent to Kolkata for forensic examination.

Jammu and Kashmir governor N N Vohra and chief minister Omar Abdullah paid tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 143rd birth anniversary.

The Governor, in his message on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, recalled Mahatma Gandhi’s contributions to the struggle for the achievement of freedom from the colonial yoke, his sustained campaign against social injustice, racism and suppression of the under-privileged sections and his unending pursuit for establishment of a truly secular and harmonious society.

INSAF organization applauded the promise of TDP to do justice to the Muslim under the stewardship of Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu. It may be termed as an attempt to compensate the injustices done to the Muslims in educational, economic and social fields.

This declaration is worth emulating by other political parities.

The efforts made by Mr. Zahid Ali Khan, Politbureau member in moulding the mind of Mr. Naidu cannot be overlooked.

The tragedy is that in other parties, Muslim leaders are like show pieces which is damaging the cause of the Muslim community.

Osmania University students recorded their protest against the statement made by L. Rajagopal, M.P. against Telangna supporters and the students of Osmania Iniversity. The students challenged Rajagopal to visit Osmania University campus if he wants to know the facts. They said that the majiority of the students is in favour of separate Telangana state and 90% of the people of Telangana want a separate state.
