Tanning beds linked to commonest form of skin cancer

Indoor tanning beds can cause non-melanoma skin cancer, and the risk is greater the earlier one starts tanning, suggests a new scientific analysis.

Indoor tanning is already an established risk factor for malignant melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, but which is less common.

Now, the new study confirms that indoor tanning also significantly increases chances of non-melanoma skin cancers, the commonest of skin cancers, the British Medical Journal reported.

No consensus in Congress on Telangana issue – C.M.

(Siasat News) C.M. of A.P. Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy once again gave a controversial statement on Telangana issue. At a time when TRS and other political parties are trying to exert pressure on Central Govt. to resolve Telangana issue the C.M. clarified that it is not possible to bifurcate A.P. State. He also rejected the question of change of leadership in the state. He told that Telangana is a very sensitive issue and no deadline could be fixed for resolving it. He pleaded that Central Govt. should be given some more time to settle this issue.

Vivek doesn’t want to see the face of C.M.

(Siasat News) Congress M.P. representing Telangana said that he doesn’t want to see the face of Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, C.M. of A.P. He had developed severe differences with him.

C.M. reached Gandhi Bhavan to attend a function to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. Peddapalli M.P. Mr. Vivek also reached Gandhi Bhavan. When Congress President Mr. B. Satyanarayana invited him to speak on this occasion he didn’t come to the dais. He delivered his speech after C.M. left the hall.

More cases registered against Telangana March agitators

(Siasat News) According to the reports of Special Branch and intelligence Branch of Hyderabad city police, a few more cases have been registered against, Prof. Kodandaram, Mr. Swamy Goud, Mr. Srinivas Goud, Mr. Devi Prasad, Ms. Vimala Akka, Ms. Sandhya and Mr. M. Lakshmaiah. These cases have been booked under P.D.P. Act and other acts for which non-bailable warrant could be issued. 28 cases have been booked including 7 cases in Osmania University police state and one in Nampally Railway police station.

(Siasat News) Minority students of Intermediate 1st and 2nd years can register their applications online with A.P. State Minorities Finance Corporation before 31st October 2012. Students of any medium can apply. It is reported that it is likely that this time more number of applications would be entertained.

Alleged Indian Mujahideen member shifted to Hyderabad from Gujarat

(Siasat News) Special Investigation Team shifted Afaq Iqbal alias Danish Riyaz from Gujarat to Hyderabad. He is suspected to be a member of Indian Mujahideen. Police produced him before the magistrate who gave him under judicial custody for (14) days. Danish Riyaz is a software engineer from Ranchi in Jharkhand State. During his stay in Hyderabad in 2008 in Gulshan colony of Toli Chowki, he worked in a software company in the city. He presented himself here as Afaq Iqbal and got a mobile connection.

Pakistan to produce nuclear safety equipment

Pakistan can now produce “Class-I nuclear safety equipment” and manufacture spare parts for its nuclear stations under embargo conditions, a media report said.

Dawn reported that Pakistan has joined a group of countries that are certified to produce ‘Class-I nuclear safety equipment’, allowing it to locally manufacture spare parts for its nuclear power stations under embargo conditions and contribute towards a long-term nuclear energy programme.

Virender Sehwag is in doubt for the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 after he has been advised two weeks of rest because of ligament injury he sustained during India’s last Super Eights game in the ICC World Twenty20 against South Africa here.

FDI in retail: Traders in Kerala down shutters

Trading activities came to a virtual halt across Kerala today as shop owners downed shutters to protest against the policies of the Central and state governments, including the decision to allow FDI in multi-brand retail.

Early reports from different centres said the response to the shut-down call given by traders’ unions like Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Samiti (KVVES) has been total, especially in urban areas.

Majority of hoteliers also joined the dawn-to-dusk protest.

Other demands of the traders include correction of anomalies in implementation of the state Food Safety Act.

A rare delight, says Pakistani daily on fuel price cut

Delighted by the reduction in fuel prices, a Pakistani daily said Wednesday that “the benefits of an international downturn in fuel rates have been passed on to Pakistani consumers”.

The News International said in an editorial titled “A rare delight?” that news of price reductions is rare. “When it comes it is greeted with delight, even though in this case the 5.5 percent drop in fuel rates essentially brings us back to where we were a week or two ago, given the steep rises we have been seeing.”

Seven killed in road mishap

Six members of a family were among seven killed when a vehicle collided head-on with a mini truck near here today.

Four persons of the family belonging to Baghapurana and the mini truck driver were killed on the spot while two other members of the family were declared dead at the Medical College and Hospital at Faridkot, police said.

The family was on its way to Moga from Baghapurana in a local mechanical vehicle while the mini-truck was coming from Ludhiana when the mishap took place near here on the Moga Ludhiana Highway.

Voicing their concern over ‘unbridled’ field tests of genetically modified (GM) crops in the country, civil society groups have asked the government to immediately put in place a legal framework on liability and redress.

Claiming that the GM crops had put the nation at risk, the Coalition for GM-free India and Centre for Sustainable Agriculture said the firms introducing GM crops should be made liable for the damage their proprietary technology is causing to biodiversity.

Indians founded most high-tech startups in US

High-tech startups founded by immigrants from India have grown phenomenally in US amidst a decline in immigrant entrepreneurs considered a critical source of fuel for the US economy, according to a new study.

The proportion of immigrant-founded companies in the US has slipped from 25.3 percent to 24.3 percent since 2005, according “America’s New Immigrant Entrepreneurs: Then and Now”, a Kauffman Foundation survey published Tuesday.

The drop is even more pronounced in Silicon Valley, where the percentage of immigrant-founded startups declined from 52.4 percent to 43.9 percent.

Representatives of Colombia’s FARC rebel group said that peace talks with the Andean nation’s government will begin Oct 15, a week later than originally announced.

Jeweller shot at, Rs 14 lakh looted

Some unidentified men Tuesday allegedly shot at a jeweller and looted Rs 14 lakh from him in Bareilly district.

Hanif was waylaid and shot at by some persons in Izatnagar area of the city, police said.

According to the complaint Rs 14 lakh were also looted from him, police said, adding that he was rushed to a hospital where his condition was stated to be stable.

Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal found himself at the centre of a controversy on Tuesday over his sexist remark that wives lose charm over time, sparking an outrage among women’s groups which dubbed the comment as “disgusting and derogatory”.

Facing flak for his remarks at a Kavi sammelan in Kanpur on Sunday night, Jaiswal offered an apology, saying he had no intention to hurt the sentiments of women.

Jaiswal also came under attack from opposition BJP which raised questions on his continuance in the Union Cabinet.

Polytechnic student commits suicide

A student of Andhra Polytechnic allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling at his residence in Babanagar area here Tuesday afternoon after being allegedly insulted by his teachers, police said.

The deceased has been identified as M Jyothi Swaroop (18), a student of fist year, police said.

A suicide note was recovered from his pocket, in which the victim has written that he was taking the extreme step as he was humiliated by the polytechnic principal and the Physical Education teacher.

Actor Gurmeet Choudhary Tuesday filed a complaint on discovering that his car parked at his Goregaon Apartment here was damaged very badly.
