Over 70 Taliban killed in Afghanistan

Up to 70 Taliban militants have been killed in Afghanistan since Wednesday during military operations and clashes with security forces in different provinces, Xinhua reported Thursday.

According to the Afghan interior ministry, as many as 27 Taliban were killed and eight others injured following 13 joint cleanup operations launched in Kabul, Laghman, Baghlan, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Sari Pul, and Kandahar provinces.

A revolver and an arms licence of BJP MP Ram Jethmalani were allegedly stolen from his Gurgaon flat.

According to a complaint filed by the prominent lawyer some unknown person had stolen his revolver and arms license, which he got during the emergency, from his flat at Raheja Atlantis, at national highway number 8.

JAC plans massive protests during PM’s visit on Oct 16

The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee is planning to organise massive protests on October 16 during the visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to attend the global biodiversity conference in the city.

The decision was reportedly taken during an informal meeting attended by TPJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram, CPI State Secretary K Narayana and other leaders. Instead of centralised protest, the JAC leaders are planning sporadic protests in different forms across the city on the occasion of Prime Minister’s visit to the city on October 16.

Egg Chaat is a tasty and tangy recipe.

Ingredients:

• 6 Eggs (boiled)
• 1 Onion and 1 Tomato (finely chopped)
• 1 Green Chili (finely chopped)
• 1 tbsp Green Coriander (finely chopped)
• 2 tbsp Ketchup
• 1 tbsp Chili Sauce
• 1 tbsp Sweet Sauce
• 1 tbsp Chat Masala
• ½ tsp Salt

How to make Egg Chaat:

• Peel all the eggs and cut them into halves or quarters.
• Now Take a large bowl and put the eggs.
• Mix all the ingredients and toss gently.

Cosmetic creams cannot repair skin from within: Study

Researchers have found that even the most expensive cosmetic creams cannot `penetrate` the skin to repair it from within as claimed by manufacturers.

Scientists at the University of Bath found that claims by pharmaceutical brands that nanoparticles in their products give their creams a `deep penetrating action` are `patently` untrue.

Even the tiniest of nanoparticles do not penetrate the skin`s surface, creams are simply deposited into creases in the skin and do not carry nutrients deep under the surface, the study found.

Actor Akshay Kumar, known as Bollywood`s `khiladi` following his on-screen daredevilry and his string of ‘Khiladi’ films, says he would love to give the title to his 10-year-old son Aarav in future.

“I would give this title `Khiladi` to my son after another 24 years,” Akshay told reporters here Thursday during the trailer launch of his upcoming film `Khiladi 786`.

Assam plans to increase rhino numbers

Under attack for the recent killing of rhinos in Kaziranga National Park, Assam government today said it has set a target to increase the animal’s population to 3,000 by 2020.

“There are 2,505 rhinos in the state now and the target is to reach the 3,000 mark by 2020,” Assam Forest and Environment Minister Rockybul Hussain told a state-level function on the occasion of the 58th Wildlife Week here.

The recent changes in the Forest Act allowing guards to use sophisticated arms would help deter poachers.

Govt relaxes norms for setting up arms for foreign owned NBFC

The government on Thursday relaxed norms for the setting up of subsidiaries by foreign owned Non- banking financial companies (NBFCs).

NBFCs with foreign holding of more than 75 percent and up to 100 percent, with the minimum paid-up capital of USD 50 million, are now allowed to open any number of subsidiaries, an official release said.

As per the existing norms, only 100 percent foreign- owned NBFCs, with a minimum capitalisation of USD 50 million are allowed to establish any number of step down subsidiaries for specific NBFC activities.

Wife of Kingfisher employee commits suicide

New Delhi, October 04: The wife of an employee of debt-ridden Kingfisher Airlines committed suicide here Thursday by hanging herself, police said. She was depressed over the deteriorating financial condition of her family.

“Sushmita Chakravarthy, 45, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her west Delhi residence in Palam Thursday at 1.30 p.m.,” said a police official.

A suicide note left behind by her said that her husband has not received salary for the past four-five months, police said.

Syria has admitted it was responsible for shelling that killed five civilians on Turkish soil and has apologised, Turkey’s deputy prime minister said on Thursday.

“The syrian side has admitted what it did and apologised,” Besir Atalay told reporters after parliament authorised cross-border operations inside syria in reaction to the killing of five Turkish nationals in crossborder shelling on Wednesday.

A 23-year-old man and his 18-year- old sister were arrested on Thursday in Birmingham on suspicion of possessing documents likely to be of use to someone preparing for an act of terrorism.

The pair was arrested at an address in the Small Heath area of Birmingham, some 195 km northwest of London, under the Terrorism Act, West Midlands Police said.

Tender for night vision devices for Naxal ops

The government has floated global tenders to procure about 4,000 specialised “human detecting” night vision devices in the wake of the recent controversial encounter in Chhattisgarh where allegations of killing civilians were levelled against the CRPF.

The paramilitary force, through a multi-country tender, wants to procure a total of 3,804 passive night devices (monocular) besides 3,241 binocular devices which will be given to the troops conducting anti-Naxal operations during night as part of the new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) implemented by the CRPF recently.

The Internet requires not just governance but transparency and accountability on the part of the user, Communications Minister Kapil Sibal said Thursday.

The user “should be free to express his opinion but at the same time be accountable for what is being said”, Sibal said while inaugurating the India Internet Governance Conference (IIGC-2012).

“Above all, managing the Internet needs consensus amongst stakeholders — government, business, civil society,” he added.
