Concern over disrepair of Malakpet graveyard

Showing concern over the disrepair of old graveyard near Osmania model school, Prince Bodyguard lane, old Malakpet, chairman Peace Colony Welfare Society, Mr. Mohammed Saifuddin better known as Shafi, has urged district collector Mr. Murtaza Razvi, commissioner GHMC besides chairman Andhra Pradesh Waqf Board to take measures for the protection of graveyard.

He said that the garbage is being piled up in graveyard which provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes and flies. The locals also fear outbreak of vector borne diseases because of stinky trash.

Venting their road rage on top police official proved dear to two angry men which landed them in jail late on Friday night. Parthasarathi Reddy and Veerkumar were stuck behind CID superintendent M. Srinivas’s car at a traffic signal near KBR Park at around 9.30 pm. When the SIPC official advised them to park the vehicle properly the duo allegedly shoved and punched superintendent of police M. Srinivas.

Wife leaves UAE man over porn addiction

A woman in the UAE, who found her husband had a sexually transmitted disease and refused to have sex with him, sought divorce when she caught the man watching pornographic movies on his computer.

The woman, a doctor by profession, opened the laptop computer and browsed through it, before she realised several movies and pictures of a sexual nature were saved in different folders, the Gulf News daily reported.

The woman had found out that her husband had syphilis, and asked him not to have sex with her.

She asked him to go for medical treatment before they could sleep together.

Hafeez dropped me from semis: Razzaq

The first signs of discontent in the Pakistan team after its ouster from the World Twenty20 have surfaced with all-rounder Abdul Razzaq expressing his disappointment at being dropped from the lost semifinal against Sri Lanka.

Razzaq, who returned to his hometown Lahore, told the media at the airport that it was the unilateral decision of the captain to not play him although the team management thought differently.

“I know the team management didn’t drop me it was Hafeez and he should now speak up and admit it was his own decision,” Razzaq said.

New research has found mobile phones can damage personal relationships merely with their presence no matter they are being used or not.

According to psychologists who conducted the experiments at Essex University, mobile phones automatically trigger thoughts about wider social networks, reducing the level of empathy and understanding in face-to-face conversations, Daily Mail reported.

The two studies found if a mobile was visible during a conversation it caused people to feel less positive towards the person with whom they were talking.

Certain plant compounds could help prescription drugs fight severe fungal infections in a more effective way, thanks to unexpected findings.

Bruce C. Campbell, formerly of Agricultural Research Service (ARS) under the US Department of Agriculture, and molecular biologist colleague Jong H. Kim, and others found that pairing antifungal medicines with compounds such as thymol, derived from herb thyme, can boost the healing effects of some of these drugs.

Militant shot dead in Meghalaya encounter

Security forces have shot dead a Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militant in Meghalaya’s South West Garo Hills district in an encounter, the police said Sunday.

The slain militant identified as L Sangma was shot dead in an encounter at Salmanpara village with the security forces yesterday, they said

A second militant surrendered before them.

The incident took place after police nabbed a militant sympathizer S Sangma when he had come to West Garo Hills district headquarter, Tura, to buy a cell phone for the senior militants at Salmanpara.

Two planes collide at Madrid airport

Two planes – with 297 and 384 passengers on board – collided while on the ground at Madrid’s Barajas airport, but there were no casualties, a media report said.

The incident occurred Saturday between an Air Europe flight – with 297 passengers – bound for Venezuelan capital Caracas, and an aircraft from the Iberworld airline – with 384 passengers – travelling to Mexico’s Cancun city, Xinhua reported.

Sources told Xinhua the incident took place when the Air Europe plane was being pushed back from its station, and its tail collided with the wing of the Iberworld aircraft.

1 killed, 34 injured in blast in residential complex in China

One person was killed and 34 others were injured in an explosion at a residential building in north China, which police said was triggered by illegal manufacturing and storage of detonators.

Police found self-made detonator shells at the six-storey building in Dongwuyao Village in Hebei province, where the explosion took place on saturday.

Detonator shells and explosive materials were also discovered in the building’s basement, state-run news agency reported.

Police suspected illegal manufacturing and storage of detonators might have caused the blast.

Pakistan captain Mohammad Hafeez conceded that the team could not live up to the expectations of its fans at the World Twenty20 but insisted that the side gave its best before being ousted in the semifinals.

Isro plans 58 space missions during 12th Plan

Isro plans to launch 58 space missions, including sending spacecraft to moon and Mars, an exclusive satellite to keep a round-the-clock watch on the country and deploy 500 transponders in the next five years.

The space agency also aims to deploy its own version of the Global Positioning System by putting into orbit a constellation of seven satellites which would form the Indian Regional Navigational Satellite System (IRNSS).

IMG to decide fate of 31 coal mines by Oct 20

The Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) on coal blocks is likely to finalise its recommendations with regard to the 31 mines allocated to public sector firms by October 20.

“Coal Secretary S K Srivastava has recently conveyed it to Public Accounts Committee that the recommendations of the IMG as far as coal blocks allocated to public sector firms would be finalised by October 20,” an official in the Coal Ministry said.

Fire causes blast at Swedish power plant

A huge fire at a thermal power plant in Sweden caused an explosion in a turbine, but there were no reports of any casualties.

Control room personnel called rescue services when the fire alarm rang in the electricity company in Orebro city, around 160 km west of the capital city of Stockholm, news agency reported citing Swedish television channel SVT.

Rescue personnel were for some time unable to get into the building due to the heat inside. Firemen activated the sprinkler system an hour after the blaze started, which helped bring the fire under control.

Chetia likely to be handed over to India by December-end

Top ULFA leader Anup Chetia, currently lodged in a jail in Bangladesh, is likely to be handed over to India by the end of this year.

This indication was given by Dhaka saying the procedure to repatriate Chetia was underway, a senior government official told PTI.

The issue has been flagged to Dhaka and will be discussed at the three-day India-Bangladesh Home Secretary-level talks beginning in Dhaka on October 14.

Iran’s secret service launches website

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry has launched a website for the first time in a move widely interpreted as an attempt to soften its image and coax Iranians into helping provide the country’s spies with information.

The website, vaja.Ir, gives the location of secret service buildings in provincial towns and encourages Iranians to contact the ministry if they have information.

The website, which was launched today also trumpets what it describes as Iranian achievements in its long running intelligence battle with the West, including the capture of a US surveillance drone last year.

1 dead, 6 tourists injured in Greek boat blast

A mock cannon on a Greek tour boat exploded on sunday, killing the captain and injuring six tourists off the island of Kos, authorities said.

The Merchant Marine Ministry said the tourists from Germany, Belgium, Greece and the Netherlands including two children, aged 7 and 9 were hospitalized on the east Aegean Sea island with minor injuries. Twenty two other passengers on board all disembarked unharmed at the island port of Mandraki.

The extent of damage caused by the explosion remained unclear.

Bus from Canada overturns on US exit ramp; 23 hurt

State police say 23 people were hurt when a bus overturned on an interstate exit ramp in northern New Jersey.

Eight of the injured passengers were in critical condition following Saturday morning’s crash in Wayne, New Jersey, though none of their injuries were considered life-threatening.

The rest of the injured, including two young children, were being treated for minor injuries.

State police say the commercial bus coming from Canada with 57 people aboard overturned about 7:30 am (local time).

It’s not yet known what caused the accident.

India successfully test-fires BrahMos missile

The Navy on Sunday successfully test-fired the 290-km range BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, capable of carrying a conventional warhead of 300 kg, from a warship off the Goa coast.

“The cruise missile was test-fired from guided missile frigate INS Teg–the Indian Navy’s latest induction from Russia off the coast of Goa early morning,” sources told a news agency.

They said the missile performing high-level manoeuvres successfully hit the target ship which was still on fire.
