Pakistan halts Imran’s anti-drone rally

A huge anti-drone rally led by former cricketer Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party was Sunday barred from entering South Waziristan, where it was to culminate in a large public meeting.

They were stopped at Manzai, close to the tribal area by the local administration, as their cars did not have proper documents required to enter the region, Geo TV reported.

The rally reached Manzai after removing freight containers placed by the authorities at various places on the route to stop them from reaching South Waziristan.

French terror suspect shot dead in front of family

A suspected Muslim terrorist in France has been shot dead by police in front of his pregnant wife and child, a media report said Sunday.

Jeremy Sidney, 33, was gunned down as armed officers swarmed into his house in Strasbourg, France.

He was a French national who spent time in prison for drug-taking and had only recently converted to Islam, the Sunday Express reported.

Seven others, including another gunman in Paris, were arrested during an anti-terrorist operation in the French capital, as well as Strasbourg, Cannes and Nice.

The BJP will declare a prime ministerial candidate after the Lok Sabha polls, party president Nitin Gadkari said Sunday,

“(At an) appropriate time… we will decide… after the Lok Sabha election… Getting majority is the main thing. After whatever the number of seats we will get in the election, we will sit and decide the candidate on that basis,” Gadkari told CNN-IBN editor-in-chief Rajdeep Sardesai in an interview.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief said he was not “in the race of PM candidates” but he confirmed that he will fight the 2014 parliamentary election.

Hours after he was extradited from the UK to face terrorism charges and a possible life sentence, one-eyed radical Islamic cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri made his first appearance in a US court, which ordered that he be held under detention till his formal arraignment on October 9.

54-year-old Egyptian-born Hamza, who faces charges like involvement in hostage-taking and conspiracy to set up an al-Qaeda-style militant training, arrived in New York on Saturday along with two other terror suspects Adel Abdel Bary and Khaled al-Fawwaz on a chartered flight.

Robert Vadra should put forward ‘concrete clarification’, BJP says

Nagpur, October 07: Sticking to its demand for a probe into Arvind Kejriwal’s allegations on Robert Vadra’s dealings with DLF, BJP on Sunday said those involved should put forward “concrete clarification” on the charges to put an end to the issue.

“A company (DLF) which itself has a loan to the tune of Rs 22,000 crore and paying an interest of 15 per cent thereon, was extending interest-free loans worth Rs 65 crore to Vadra,” BJP national spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters here while demanding a probe into the matter.

Sebastian Vettel wins Japanese GP, closes gap on leader Alonso

Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel won the Japanese Grand Prix from pole on Sunday to close within four points of the Formula One championship leader Fernando Alonso who crashed out of the race at the first turn.

This is Vettel’s third win of the current season.
