PM directs cash transfers for welfare schemes

Another teenager gangraped in Haryana

In the third incident of its kind in less than 20 days, a teenaged girl was gang-raped by four youths in Gohana town in Haryana’s Sonipat district Friday, 190 km from here.

The victim, a class 11 student, had gone to a grocery shop Friday afternoon and was asked by the shop owner, Kali, to pick up things from his godown nearby.

In her complaint to the police, the victim said when she went to the godown, Kali came after her. Three other youth, identified as Harish, Deepak and Shanty, were already there.

Dhoni blames rain for humiliating loss against Australia

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed a short rain-break for his team’s humiliating nine-wicket loss against Australia in their first Super Eights match of the World Twenty20 at the Premadasa Stadium here Friday.

“Rain came just at the wrong time. Just after the wicket was rolled. The wet ball is not good for spinners. It was like bowling in England. That was the main reason we lost,” said Dhoni.

Former NSA Brajesh Mishra dead

India’s first-ever national security adviser Brajesh Mishra passed away Friday night at a private hospital in the national capital. He was 84.

As the news of his death just a day before his 85th birthday came, there was a buzz in the social online media, with several condolence messages pouring in.

“Brajesh Mishra RIP – a titan amongst Indian diplomats,” tweeted Ministry of External Affairs spokesman Syed Akbaruddin.

“He (Mishra) died in a hospital,” a government official told IANS.

A 20-year-old Brazilian woman student is auctioning off her virginity to the highest bidder to raise cash to build homes for poverty-stricken families, the Daily Mail reported.

Catarina Migliorini, a physical education student of Italian descent, has till now been offered $155,000.

She hopes to pump in the money into a non-governmental organisation that will construct houses in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

The girl rejected claims that she was a prostitute, and said she still believed in love, the daily reported.

Pakistani minister defends bounty on filmmaker’s head

A Pakistani minister, who offered a $100,000 bounty on the head of an anti-Islam filmmaker, Friday defended his decision despite wide condemnation.

Addressing a gathering at a mosque Friday, Railway Minister Ghulam Ahmed Bilour said he will not withdraw the offer of bounty.

The Pakistani government has disassociated itself from the offer, Xinhua reported.

Bilour sparked international condemnation when he offered the bounty and urged the Taliban and Al Qaeda to carry out what he called the “noble deed”.

British lawmakers called for a ban on his entry into Britain.
