Egyptian president opposes military intervention in Syria

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi Wednesday opposed military intervention in Syria to settle the prevailing crisis in the country.

Morsi said Egypt would support such efforts to prevent a catastrophe in Syria that would “rule out the danger of foreign military intervention”.

On Tuesday, the emir of Qatar called for Arab military intervention in Syria.

The Syrian conflict has claimed up to 20,000 lives according to estimates by various Syrian opposition groups. The UN estimates the toll at over 18,000 people but the Syrian authorities say 8,000 people were killed.

Saina to fly IAF’s jet trainer aircraft on Friday

Ace shuttler and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal will fly Kiran Mk II jet trainer aircraft of the Indian Air Force on Friday at the IAF’s training academy at Dundigal in Andhra Pradesh.

Saina has been invited to visit the Air Force Academy, Dundigal on September 28 as a special guest for the closing ceremony of the Inter Squadron Sports Championship.

During the visit, she is scheduled to fly a sortie on the Kiran trainer aircraft, the IAF said in a release.

Naxal arrested, tiffin bomb seized

A Naxal was arrested today and a tiffin bomb seized from him in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district, police said. Pander Rachla was arrested from a jungle near Bajrangi village and the tiffin bomb recovered, SP Rahul Bhagat told reporters.

“During interrogation, Rachla said Naxals had planned to plant the tiffin bomb in a police station and he had gone to recce the area when the police team nabbed him,” Bhagat said. Rachla claimed some government employees were assisting the Naxals.

Baby ‘raped’ in Kolkata, four detained

Four persons have been detained in connection with the alleged rape of a one-and-half-year-old child of a pavement dweller in Kolkata’s Park Street area, police said Wednesday.

“We have detained four persons for interrogation in connection with the alleged rape of a baby girl. All the four are also pavement dwellers,” said Mohammed Kalimuddin, officer-in-charge of Park Street police station.

The baby with critical injuries is now in the ICU of a private nursing home.

State BJP has expressed its happiness over seizure of 34 Villas in Boulder Hills in Emaar Properties near GachiBouli and 4.86 acre land at Kalkaji near Delhi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

In a press note, State BJP vice-president Dr S Malla Reddy said that the action initiated by the ED was good, but it was not enough. He demanded the ED to seize all the Villas of Emaar Properties and then only it is possible to close the land scam of Emaar Properties. He also asked ED to seize 80 acres land in Emaar Properties and give it back to the farmers.

State To File Slp In Apex Court On Local Body Elections

The State Government has decided to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court on the local body elections issue.

Speaking to the media in his chamber, Secretariat here, the Minister for Panchayat Raj K Jana Reddy said that it was not possible to immediately conduct elections to the local bodies. Hence, the government has decided to file an SLP in the Supreme Court on local body elections. The State Government would also request the Centre not to stop the funds to the state due to non-conduct of local body elections, keeping in mind the interests of the state.

`Fake’ encounter case: Gujarat cop in two-day CBI custody

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Tarun Barot, a key accused in the 2003 “fake” encounter of Sadiq Jamal Mehtar in Gujarat, was today remanded in two-day CBI custody by a Special Court here.

Barot, posted in North Gujarat’s Mehsana district, was arrested yesterday by the Central agency after it was asked by the Gujarat High Court to probe the killing of Sadiq,an alleged gangster, by the state police.

CBI double standards to the fore: YSRCP

Questioning the double standards of the CBI by allowing bail to 24 persons, including a minister and senior bureaucrats in service but denying it to YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on the grounds that he would influence the witnesses in the disproportionate assets case, its spokesperson Vasireddy Padma alleged the government and the investigation agency will be answerable to this anomaly.
