CM requests Moily to help on power issue

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today requested Union Minister for Power Veerappa Moily to help tide over power shortage in the state. The Chief Minister requested Mr Moily, who was in the city to participate in the 10th Annual Convocation of NALSAR University to consider allocation of 231 MW from NTPC Jhajjar till end of May 2013 to meet the present critical power crisis, an official release here said. NTPC Jhajjar power has been allocated power to the tune of 131 MW upto October 2012 against the earlier allocation of 231 MW.

Rapist leaves scar on woman’s chastity: Court

Ruling that a rapist leaves a scar on a woman’s chastity, a court here has awarded seven years’ rigorous imprisonment to a ‘tantrik’ for raping his 16-year-old niece.

“A rapist not only causes physical injuries but more indelibly leaves a scar on the most cherished possession of a woman i.e. her dignity, honour, reputation and not the least her chastity,” Additional Sessions Judge Vijay Kumar Dahiya said Saturday while awarding the jail term to 57-year-old tantrik (faith healer) Mahesh Goel for raping the girl.

Minister Warns Police Not To Flout Discipline

Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has made it clear that the Government will not tolerate any kind of violation of discipline in the Police Department.

After inaugurating the new Police Station Building here on Sunday, she said that Eluru range DIG has submitted a report on dispute between the East Godavari District SP and the ASP. A decision will be taken after examining the report.

CPI Demands Special Court To Settle Land Disputes

The CPI state Secretary Dr K Narayana has demanded the Government to create a special court to settle the land disputes.

The CPI leader, who was on way to Asifabad, as part of his ‘Praja poru yatra’, paid homage at the Girijan martyrs memorial here today. Speaking on the occasion, he said that according to a survey conducted by the CPI, 75 lakh acres of Government lands are in the hands of landlords in the State. Delhi Boils : Mob sets police booth, many vehicles afire in Delhi

Angered over two people on a two-wheeler getting injured after police forcibly stopped them, a mob set a police booth, a DTC bus and many other vehicles on fire Sunday evening, police said. Police had to fire in air to control the situation, which is still tense.

The incident took place around 7 p.m. in east Delhi’s Mayur Vihar Phase III.

People at the spot alleged one person was killed in the police firing and at least two injured, but police refused to confirm any casualties, except to one of the persons on the vehicle.

Over 25 lakh children affected by Cerebral Palsy, say doctors

Cerebral Palsy, a condition that causes physical disability in human development, has disabled more than 25 lakh children in India and is rapidly spreading in rural parts of the country, doctors said here.

Addressing a seminar here at BR Ambedkar Hospital, doctors called for timely medical action and better awareness
on the issue.

“More than 90 per cent of cerebral palsy patients with physical disability can lead a normal life with early
diagnosis and proper medical treatment,” Veena Kalra, S pecialist Paediatric, Neurology and Ex Professor & Head Pediatrics, AIIMS said.

16 militants killed in Pakistan raid

Sixteen pro-Taliban militants were killed in clashes with security forces in Pakistan’s restive tribal belt even as the country’s northwest witnessed a string of violent incidents today.

Troops killed seven militants and injured over a dozen more during an operation in Azam Warsak area of South
Waziristan Agency, TV news channels quoted officials as saying.

Nine militants, including a commander, were killed during an operation in Batwar area of Bajaur tribal region, officials said.

Troops launched a drive last week to evict militants from the area.

TV Editors asks Maha to protect media after Raj’s ‘threat’

The “threats” issued by Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray against Hindi news channels were an “assault on roots of democracy”, a body of editors of electronic news channels said here today.

The Broadcast Editors’ Association in a release asked the Maharashtra Government to ensure protection to media personnel in Mumbai against “lumpen elements”.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, is campaigning to create more vegan-only dining on campuses across the US, the local paper Metro Boston reported.

They have come up with a contest that will pay $1,000 to the first student group that converts a meat-serving dining hall into a vegan-only one.
