The discovery of a crucial step in the body`s process for healing wounds could open a new way of treating inflammation, which is the immune system`s response to an illness or infection.

An international team led by Monash University`s Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute (ARMI) discovered the mechanism, which shuts down the signal triggering the body`s initial inflammatory response to injury.

Government notification permitting smoking scenes in films soon

The government Tuesday told the Supreme Court that it would shortly issue a notification to permit smoking scenes in films with a scroll carrying statutory warning that smoking is injurious to health.

The apex court bench of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice Ranjan Gogoi was told that the new notification would mandate that the films showing smoking scene run a scroll that smoking was injurious right at the start of the film, soon after the interval and during the course of the scene showing smoking.

Cabinet approves quota in promotions

The union cabinet Tuesday approved quota in promotions for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, a move that was discussed at an all-party meeting last month.

The cabinet met in the Parliament House premises here and approved the amending bill for quota in promotions.

“The government is considering bringing in the bill before parliament as soon as possible,” an official told IANS.

According to Mr. Ghyasuddin Babu Khan Chairman Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust, a team for the relief work among the victims of Assam, under the supervision of Mr. Nisar Ahmed CAO, HZCT, has been sent to Assam in the wee hours of Monday.

Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar Trustee FEED and Mr. Chairman flagged off the team. After the survey the relief will be sent as per the requirement.

“It contained no text, just the title ‘Prime Minister’s Message on Defence Day’,” Shafqat Jalil, PMO spokesperson, told Dawn about the email message.

“We detected the fake email and immediately informed the media as per the standard operating procedure that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has not issued any message relating to Defence Day,” he said.

Shutdown hits life in Kashmir

Life in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley was partially affected due to a shutdown call by separatists Tuesday.

Hardline separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani has called the shutdown against alleged politicising of the annual Amarnath Yatra.

Geelani has demanded disbanding of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) which manages the Hindu pilgrimage. He has also demanded that the pilgrimage management should be handed over to the Pandit community.

Guerrilla outfit Hizbul Mujahideen has also supported the shutdown call.

Mallya gives Rs 5,904 cr guarantee to Kingfisher lenders

Kingfisher Airlines Chairman Vijay Mallya gave guarantees worth Rs 5,904 crore for the carrier’s loans and other liabilities in 2011-12, but did not get any commission for the same because of lenders’ opposition.

While guarantees given by Mallya fell from Rs 6,156 crore in the previous year 2010-11, the guarantees provided by Kingfisher’s holding and associate companies rose from Rs 8,863 crore to Rs 8,926 crore in this period.

Headless bodies of four women found in Honduras

Five headless bodies, including those of four young women, were found over the weekend in the Caribbean port city of La Ceiba, a Honduran National Police spokesperson said.

The bodies were found in trash bags Saturday in a street in Rio Viejo, a community located near the Cangrejal River in La Ceiba, National Police spokesperson Jose Lainez said.

The unidentified victims, who range in age from 16 to 22, were beheaded, the police spokesperson said.

“When we got to the area, we confirmed that they were human bodies that had been dumped in the trash bags,” Lainez said.

Rains batter Andhra Pradesh

Heavy rains continued to batter Andhra Pradesh and throwing road and rail traffic out of gear, officials said.

Several rivulets, tanks and other water bodies were overflowing in 10 districts of Telangana and coastal Andhra regions following showers over the last two days due to low pressure over the Bay of Bengal. There were reports that five people had been killed.

As many as 100 villages were cut off in Khammam district where overflowing rivulets inundated several areas and brought road transport to a halt. Parts of Nizamabad town were also flooded.

6.4-magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia

A 6.4-magnitude earthquake has struck South of Java, Indonesia tonight. The quake, whose focal depth was 10 kilometer, shook the region at 2353 hrs IST, according to data released by India Meteorological Department here. Epicentre of the quake was 10.8 degree South (latitude) and 113.9 degree East (Longitude).

Chinese Defence Minister to skip Amar Jawan Jyoti

Chinese Defence Minister Gen Liang Guanglie will have a packed schedule in India on Tuesday, but he will not be visiting Amar Jawan Jyoti, the war memorial for the unknown soldier, at India Gate, a customary stop for visiting defence ministers.

He will hold talks with his Indian counterpart AK Antony and meet the heads of all services. Gen Liang is also expected to call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

This is the first visit by a Chinese Defence Minister in the last eight years.

Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Monday sidestepped questions on the demands for removal of Union Minister Subodh Kant Sahai, who is embroiled in a controversy over allocation of a coal block in Jharkhand.

A Pakistani daily has sought the purging of school curricula for hate material after a panel pointed out that books contain material that would entrench prejudice against religious minorities, distort history and foment the conspiratorial mindset.

An editorial in the News International Tuesday said that in today’s Pakistan, “plagued as it is by extremism and inter-religious, ethnic- and sectarian-based tension, there are plenty of occasions to justifiably accuse the state of doing little to stem the black tide threatening to engulf the country”.

Quantifying loss is not CAG’s duty: Veerappa Moily

Amid the political logjam over coal allocation controversy, Corporate Affairs Minister Veerappa Moily on Monday said that it is not the duty of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to estimate losses.

“I am not blaming them (auditors). Quantifying the loss is not their duty. Pointing out whether due diligence is taken, appropriate procedures have been processed and if there is any lapse on that part, that they definitely can (do). But they can’t make fantastic calculations,” Moily said.

After initiating steps to conserve the Gangetic river dolphin, Bihar will celebrate Oct 5 as Dolphin Day to create awareness to save the endangered species that has been declared India’s national aquatic animal.

“The state government has decided to celeberate Oct 5 as Dolphin Day,” Chief Wildlife Warden D.K. Shukhla said.

With only about 2,000 Gangetic river dolphins left in India, down from tens of thousands just a few decades ago, Bihar’s move will help strengthen conservation efforts.

No passing of seminal bills amidst din: Chidambaram

Home Minister P Chidambaram today ruled out passage of “seminal bills” like those on banking and pension amid din in Parliament but said “tacit understanding” helped passage of some other bills, including three in Lok Sabha, on Monday.

Responding to questions whether the tacit understanding has been reached between the ruling alliance and the BJP-led Opposition for it, Chidambaram said “there is tacit understanding among some individual members” of various parties that these bills are important and should be passed even in the din.

FIRs against five companies allocated coal blocks

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday filed cheating cases against five private companies allocated coal blocks, an official said. The agency also conducted searches at 30 locations in 10 cities.

The CBI registered the first set of first information reports (FIRs) in alleged irregularities in the allocation and use of coal deposits. Teams from the agency are conducting raids in 10 cities, including Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad, Dhanbad, Nagpur, Mumbai and Delhi.

China never deployed any soldier in PoK, clarifies Chinese Def Min

Clarifying that China’s People’s Liberation Army “never deployed a single soldier” in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), visiting National Defense Minister of China General Liang Guanglie has accused some interest groups of fabricating rumours to project his country’s normal development activities into “China’s preparation for war against India”.

General Liang, who is on five-day visit to India, said in a written interview to The Hindu that as a neighbour, China firmly supports that India and Pakistan solve their disputes through dialogue and cooperation.

(Siasat News) Mr K . Chandrashekar Rao, President of TRS is proceeding to New Delhi on 5th September with a “deadline” to be given to central Govt for the formation of separate Telangana before 15th September.

Sources indicated their Mr. K Chandrashekar Rao and Ms Vijaya Shanthi will attend Parliament. Mr Rao had given the deadline to the Centre till 20th August. He has now fixed 15th September.
