Shinde dismisses Uddhav Thackeray’s remark against Biharis

Home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde today dismissed Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray’s comments against Biharis living in Maharashtra, saying every citizen has the right to travel freely across the country.
“It is not in the interest of the nation to violate the provisions of the Constitution,” Shinde told reporters here when asked to comment on Thackeray’s remarks.

“Every citizen had the right to travel freely across the country. Our Constitution has given equal right to all,” he said.

Vitamin D from sunlight helps treat TB

Vitamin D could help the body fight infections of tuberculosis, enabling patients to recover faster from the deadly disease, a new study has found.

A study led by researchers at Queen Mary, University of London has shown that high doses of vitamin D, given in addition to antibiotic treatment help patients with tuberculosis (TB) recover more quickly.

The findings indicate that high doses of the vitamin can dampen down the body`s inflammatory response to infection with less damage to their lungs.

‘Dabangg 2’ shoot to start in Uttar Pradesh next week

Arbaaz Khan Productions has reportedly got permission to film the Salman Khan-starrer action-comedy “Dabangg 2” in the state capital. Major scenes will be shot here and in Kanpur from next week.

According to sources in the state government, Arbaaz Khan Productions sought the green signal from the government to “commence shooting in the beautiful city”.

SP, BSP MPs involved in scuffle in RS over quota bill

Rajya Sabha today witnessed high drama as a scuffle broke out between SP and BSP members when the government introduced a contentious Constitution amendment bill to provide reservation in promotion to SCs and STs in government jobs.

The bill, which seeks to circumvent a Supreme Court order quashing such a decision of Uttar Pradesh government in April, seeks to bring certainty and clarity in the matter by substituting a clause of Article 16 of the Constitution.

BJP promises T, if comes to power at centre

Bharatya Janata Party has promised formation of separate Telangana statehood within three month of coming to power at the centre. This was assured by party’s senior leader Sushma Swaraj to a group of activists who were on a day-long dharna at Jantar Mantar.

Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati Wednesday said both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party had “political motives” against reservations in job promotions for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and had so far prevented the passage of a legislation in this regard.

A constitution amendment bill to amend Article 16(4) of the Constitution to remove the term “inadequate representation” to enable reservations in promotions and appointments was tabled in the Rajya Sabha Wednesday.

Kidnapper of Yashoda’s doctor demanded Rs.40 lakh to release him

(Siasat News)Sri Harsha Reddy, 35-year-old radiologist at Yashoda Hospital Malakpet went missing since Monday evening.

Harsha used to reside in an apartment behind Yashoda Hospital along with some colleagues.

When Harsha’s colleague called him he didn’t answered the call this create suspicious to his colleague and thus checked the hospital CCTV footage on Tuesday morning and saw Harsha leaving hospital at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Harsha is from Guntur and married to a girl Hema Prasanna a PG student at Manipal Medical College.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked the youth to avoid dieting as that could bring down resistance levels and result in their falling prey to ailments like dengue.

Her advice to the youth when she spoke about dengue outbreak in the state at a press conference here. Dengue cases have crossed over 600 in the state.

“My young friends, I appeal to all of you, not to go on diet as this can bring down your immunity system and you can be prone to diseases like dengue,” she said while asking them to take plenty of food and water.

Vitamin D supplement won’t help in short term

Taking vitamin D supplements to compensate for its deficiency did not lower LDL or bad cholesterol levels — not at least in the short term, suggests new research.

Researchers from The Rockefeller University, New York, studied 151 people with vitamin D deficiency who received either a mega-dose (50,000 internationals units) of vitamin D3 or placebo (substance containing zero medication) weekly for eight weeks. Their cholesterol levels were measured before and after treatment.

North-east people begin return journey to Hyderabad

Govt urges opposition parties to get quota bill passed in RS

In a swift action to circumvent a Supreme Court order, the government today cleared a bill providing for reservation to SCs and STs in promotions in government jobs with effect from 1995 and it will be brought in Parliament today.

The Union Cabinet, at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, approved a proposal to amend Article 16(4) of the Constitution to remove the term “inadequate representation” to justify reservation in promotion and appointments.

Chinese president meets Clinton

President Hu Jintao met US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton here Wednesday and appreciated her efforts to push forward ties between the two countries.

Hu recalled Clinton’s last seven visits to China as the US Secretary of State, including four visits for the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue (SED) and another three for the High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchanges, reported Xinhua.

Hu commended Clinton’s efforts in promoting the construction of the US Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo and the program for US students to study in China.

Sensex tanks 120 points, metal, capital goods stocks down

A benchmark index of Indian equities markets was trading 120 points lower in afternoon trade Wednesday on weak Asian cues. Metal, capital goods and banking stocks were the worst performers.

The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 17,359.96 points, was ruling at 17,320.05 points, 0.69 percent or 120.82 points down from its previous day’s close at 17,440.87 points.

The Sensex touched a high of 17,411.67 points and a low of 17,250.80 points in intra-day trade.

SP protests promotion quota bill

The Samajwadi Party (SP) Wednesday said it will hold street protests against the UPA government introducing a bill to provide quotas in promotions in government jobs.

SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters outside the Parliament House, soon after the bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha, that his party would oppose the draft law in its present form.

The party is demanding that quotas, as provided for scheduled castes and tribes in the present bill, also be provided to other backward castes.
