Lashing out at TDP Chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for addressing a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh demanding all-party meet on Telangana issue, PCC Chief Botcha Satyanarayana has said that the former addressed the letter only for political gain.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Botcha said there was no clarity in Chandrababu Naidu’s letter. He alleged that Chandrababu Naidu has the habit of changing colors in tune with the changing times. (NSS)

Dokka Hails Scrapping Of Bauxite Mines Lease

Rural Development Minister Dokka Manikya Vara Prasadsa Rao has welcomed Union Minister Kishore Chandra Deo’s decision on scrapping Bauxite Mines lease.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Dokka said that “Thurpu Kanumalu” (Eastern Ghats) were like heart to protection of the environment. He asked the Union government to consider the issues with regard to legal aspects and abolish all the Bauxite mines agreements. TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu’s letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the Telangana issue was creating differences among the party leaders. Thamballapally TDP MLA Praveen Reddy on Thursday lashed out at Chandrababu for addressing the letter to the Prime Minister and demanded that the latter in favor of Telangana be withdrawn immediately. “Otherwise, Chandrababu has to change the party’s name as “Telangana Desam”, he warned.

Concede T Or Permit T March, CPI Asks Centre

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy today announced the sanction of super specialty block to the government general hospital here, at a cost of Rs 70 crore, expansion of Air Port and a mango market yard at Nuzvid and cattle market yard at Nandigama. Announcing the sops at a press conference here today, Chief Minister said that the super specialty block would be constructed in two phases at a cost of Rs 70 crore. US Army ‘stand-down’ for suicide prevention training

The US Army put normal operations on hold Thursday in a service-wide “stand-down” for a day of mandatory suicide prevention training to try and combat record numbers of suicides among active-duty troops.

“The nation has asked our soldiers to carry a heavy load over the last 11 years, and they have not failed,” Sgt. Maj. Raymond Chandler told a news conference Wednesday on the eve of the training. “But suicide is an enemy we have yet to defeat.”

According to army figures, a record 26 soldiers died in probable suicides in July.

Hookah Bars banned in Gurgaon

The Gurgaon District Magistrate Thursday banned Hookah (hubble bubble) Bars in the district, an official said.

“Hookah Bars are serving tobacco molasses containing nicotine which is injurious to the health of the people, especially college students and youth. The people, especially young generations were being spoilt by these illegally running Hookah Bars,” District Magistrate (DM) P.C. Meena said.

“Taking the health hazards of tobacco and nicotine into account, the operations of Hookah Bars have been prohibited in the entire district with immediate effect,” Meena added.

Pranab has boat ride on Dal, tea in Nishat Garden

(IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee, now on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Thursday went on a boat ride in the famed Dal Lake in Srinagar.

State Governor N.N. Vohra, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and senior civil and police officials accompanied President Mukherjee.

During the boat ride, officials briefed the president on the conservation of the famous lake and the rehabilitation programme launched by the state government for displaced people. The measures undertaken for conservation of the lake, including dredging and laying the sewer lines, were explained.

ABVP against AMU branch anywhere

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) said Thursday that it was against the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) opening a branch anywhere in the country.

“ABVP is against an AMU branch anywhere in the country including Bihar,” its general secretary Umesh Dutt told the media here.

Dutt said ABVP had been opposing the Bihar government’s plans to set up an AMU branch in Kishanganj. The Bihar government has given 250 acres for the proposed AMU campus.

The three-day 58th national conference of ABVP will be held here Dec 26-28.

Aunt of Indian’s killer wins 1 million pounds

The aunt of a British man who killed Indian student Anuj Bidve has won one million pounds in lottery.

Mandy Burgess, 42, was among 100 people who won the jackpot in a special EuroMillions Olympic draw, the Daily Mail reported.

Her 21-year-old nephew Kiaran Stapleton has been jailed for life for shooting 23-year-old Bidve on Boxing Day last year.

He shot Bidve at point blank range and stood over his body laughing.

Burgess is a mother of three and was married to Damian Noonan, a major figure in Manchester’s underworld before his death in an accident in 2003.
