5 arrested on murder charges

The Central Crime Branch of the city police have arrested five people on the charges of murder of a rowdy sheeter here last week. In a daring day light murder rowdy Dilip was brutally murdered in a wine shop which led to panic fearsome in the minds of the public. The five — Satish, Parusharama, Suresh, Ganesh and Raju were nabbed at Hosur in Tamil Nadu on September 27 by a special team formed to nab the culprits.

Gadkeri failed to keep up promise: Yeddyurappa

Continuing his tirade against the party central leadership senior BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa today accused party President Nitin Gadkeri of failing to keep up his promise. “Gadkeri has failed to keep up his words unlike Congress supremo who has kept up her promises made,” he told newsmen here. Mr Yeddyurappa said when he was asked to step down as Chief Minister on July 31, 2010, Mr Gadkari had promised to suitably compensate him soon after he was released from the jail following his arrest by Lokayukta on illegal iron ore mining case.

Sensex up 183 points; ends at 15-month high on strong rupee

A firming global trend and the rupee rising to five-month high against the dollar helped the market commence the new settlement in the derivatives segment on a promising note

The BSE benchmark Sensex on Friday jumped by 183 points to end at a 15-month high on buying in auto, FMCG and metal stocks amid strong global cues and a surging rupee.

After gaining 269 points at the outset, the Sensex closed up 183.24 points, or 0.99 per cent, at 18,762.74, a level last seen on July 7. The 30-share barometer has gained 8.2 per cent this month.

Cameron denies he snubbed Obama to play tennis

British Prime Minister David Cameron has rejected a claim that he snubbed a phone call from US President Barack Obama to carry on a game of tennis.

Cameron’s schoolfriend Charlie Brooks had claimed the prime minister had been too involved in a match at his country residence, Chequers, to speak to the US president, the Daily Mail reported.

Brooks, who studied at Eton with Cameron, said the pair were “pretty good friends”.

Cauvery: Supreme Court pulls up Karnataka

The Supreme Court on Friday pulled up the Karnataka government for failing to comply with the Prime Minister-headed Cauvery River Authority’s (CRA) directive to release 9,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu.

A bench of justices D.K. Jain and Madan Lokur warned Karnataka that if it failed to comply with the CRA directive, it (the bench) will have to pass appropriate orders.

19 killed as private aircraft crashes in Nepal

All 19 people, mostly foreigners, aboard a Dornier aircraft of a private airlines were killed on Friday as the plane crashed minutes after taking off from the Tribhuvan International Airport here.

Sixteen passengers and three crew members who were heading towards Lukla, gateway to Mt Everest, were killed when the small aircraft belonging to Sita Airways crashed two minutes after it took off at 6:15 am (local time), airport officials said.

Six Maoist ultras arrested in Chhattisgarh

Six Maoist militants were apprehended Friday in a forested pocket of Chhattisgarh’s restive Bastar region, police said.

The rebels, who are senior cadres of the banned outfit Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist), were arrested in a search operation in Bijapur district.

Himanshu Gupta, inspector general of police (Bastar region), told reporters that the guerrillas were arrested by a joint contingent of District Force and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) from Mirtoor police station area, some 500 km south of state capital Raipur.

BJP to protest government policies

The BJP Friday said it would go to the people to expose the government on the issue of coal block allocations, foreign equity in multibrand retail and capping the supply of subsidised cooking gas.

Exams of Idara-e-Adabiyat-e-Urdu

According to Prof. S A Shukoor general secretary, the Urdu Maher, Urdu Aalim, Urdu Fazil exams of Idara-e-Adabiyat-Urdu, will be held in the month of December simultaneously in Hyderabad and Secunderabad, districts of Andhra Pradesh and outside the state. Payment of the fee without fine can be made from October 5 to November 9. Incomplete forms will be rejected.

The new Indian Consulate in Atlanta will start its services partially from October 01, the Indian embassy has announced.

“The Consulate General of India in Atlanta will start its Passport/Misc Services operations with effect from 1st of October, 2012,” the Indian embassy said in a media advisory.

“Visa/OCI (Overseas Citizens of India)/PIO (People of Indian Origin) services at CGI Atlanta will commence at a later date,” it said.

‘Kahaani 2’ shooting to start in 2013

Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh will start shooting for the sequel to his successful thriller “Kahaani” next year with Vidya Balan in the lead role.

Ghosh told IANS: “The film will definitely go on the floors by next year… The film is in its scripting stage. I have just started writing it so we have a long way to go.”

The 46-year-old said all the characters will be the same in the sequel and added: “Of course, we will have Vidya Balan in the film and rest of the characters will also be the same.”
