‘Had uncovered two camps used by LeT for 26/11 training’

A former head of Pakistan’s main investigation agency on Friday offered a peek into the probe of the 2008 Mumbai attack, saying sleuths had uncovered two LeT training camps in Sindh province that were used by militants involved in the assault on India’s financial hub.

Tariq Khosa, who supervised the probe of the Mumbai incident while heading the Federal Investigation Agency, said investigators had found the Lashkar-e-Taiba camps at Thatta and Karachi, the capital of Sindh province.

These camps were used by those involved in the attacks, he said.

Saina takes to sky in IAF aircraft

London Olympic bronze medallist shuttler Saina Nehwal today experienced the thrill of flying in an Indian Air Force aircraft, and described the experience as “dream come true”.

She flew in ‘Kiran Jet Trainer’ for about 20 minutes, after taking off from the training academy in Dindigul on the outskirts of the city.

“It’s a great honour. It was dream come true for me to fly. Everyone in their childhood dream of joining either Air Force or Army. We dream of becoming one of them.

Britain’s Health Protection Agency has published an early genetic sequence of the new respiratory virus related to SARS that shows it is most closely linked to bat viruses, and scientists say camels, sheep or goats might
end up being implicated too.

Pakistani bomb disposal expert killed in blast

A bomb disposal expert was killed Friday in Pakistan’s Peshawar city while attempting to defuse an explosive device, Geo News reported.

The incident took place in Budh Bair area of the city when bomb squad veteran Hukam Khan, in his late 50s, successfully defused one bomb but was killed when another exploded as he tried to make it safe.

Three police officers were wounded in the blast.

Tribal woman in C’garh gangraped

A tribal woman in Narayanpur district has claimed that she was gangraped by four unidentified armed men wearing uniforms.

Narayanpur SP Mayank Srivastava said that a case has been registered in this regard.

According to the woman, she was raped in the forest between Turtha and Karepal by four armed men on 18th of this
month.

The 45-year old victim initially did not file police complaint on the advice by her family members. But a few days
ago, she took ill and a health worker in the area who learnt about the incident alerted the police yesterday.

Government may fall before 2014: BJP

The BJP Friday sounded the poll bugle and demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s resignation over coal block allocations, saying the government could fall before 2014, when the next general elections are due.

British-era convent school rocked by death of two students

The death of two girls of a British-era convent school in Shimla Friday became murkier when their parents blamed school authorities. The parents said the girls did not die accidentally, but committed suicide after being “mentally harassed” by their teacher.

Class 6 students Shakshi Thakur and Nancy Thakur of the Convent of Jesus and Mary were found dead near the school Monday. At that time, police said the girls died when a speeding vehicle hit them.

4 member gang held for cheating unemployed youth

A four member gang, including a woman, was arrested by the city police for cheating the unemployed youth by promising them with a job in Indian Railways and collected money from them. Addressing a press conference, City Police Commissioner J Poornachandra Rao said that based on a private school teacher who was cheated by the gang the accused were arrested yesterday. Two members of the gang were Armed Reserve Constables working in visakhapatnam rural District. The Commissioner said the four accused conspired together.

Little boy injured as mobile phone explodes in his mouth

A little boy was injured when a mobile handset which he had put into his mouth exploded suddenly last night, at Shajapur tehsil’s Pagravat village near here, hospital sources said today.

The ten-year-old Chetan Singh studying in the fifth class was rushed to the M Y Hospital here after he lost some
of his upper teeth, injured his lips and lower jaws, sources said.

After immediate treatment, the boy was admitted to ward number 18 where his condition was stated to be stable,
sources said.

The brand of the mobile handset was not revealed in the medical report, sources said.

Bandh in Ahmedabad locality over anti-Islam film

A bandh was observed in the predominantly Muslim Juhapura area of the city today to protest against the controversial anti-Islam film made in the USA.

Retail shops, eateries, auto-rickshaws among others joined the bandh. Educational institutes, however, were kept
out of it,” social activist Fazal Bahelim told PTI.

Local Muslim organisations had called the bandh.

There was no untoward incident, a police official said.

Saudi starts expelling Nigerian women pilgrims

Saudi Arabia has started expelling 1,100 Nigerian women pilgrims for violating the kingdom’s rule prohibiting Muslim women from entering the country without a male guardian.

The government-run el-Eqtisad website quotes an unnamed Saudi official today as saying the women were detained after landing at the international airport in Jiddah.

Yesterday, 171 were sent back and the rest will be returned to Nigeria.

The report says some of the women have been detained since Monday.

US chef ‘cooked’ wife’s body for four days

A 49-year-old chef from Los Angeles faces life in prison for murder after he told police he boiled his wife’s body for four days to hide the evidence, a media report said.

According to the Daily Mirror, David Viens stuffed his wife’s body in a 55-gallon drum of boiling water and kept it submerged with weights.

In a recorded interrogation presented by prosecutors at the trial in Los Angeles, Viens was heard saying he cooked the body of his 39-year-old wife, Dawn, in 2009 until little was left but her skull.
