Investigators seize laptop, mobile of former airhostess

Investigators today seized the laptop and mobile phone of the 23-year-old former airhostess, who committed suicide due to alleged harassment by a former Haryana Minister even as her family demanded a CBI probe into the case.

Police is yet to question Gopal Kanda, her employer and the Minister who quit Haryana Ministry, though it has served a notice to Anuradha Chaddha, who was also named in the victim’s suicide note.

Veena Malik back as host on special Ramzan show

Pakistani model-actress Veena Malik is back as the host of the special show prepared for the holy month of Ramzan.

The channel had previously decided to cancel the show featuring the Malik following a public outcry.

The 28-year-old, who rose to prominence in India after participating in reality TV show Bigg Boss will host Hero TV’s ‘Astaghfar’.

“I am very happy that my show ‘Astaghfar’ is going to be on air I thank Allah for giving me such opportunity to host this show. It is the love of the people there that has brought me back on the show,” Malik said in a statement.

Chiranjeevi can’t become CM: Lagadapati

Congress MP from Vijayawada Lagadapati Rajagopal has said that there was no chance for Rajya Sabha member K. Chiranjeevi to become chief minister of the State.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, Lagadapati predicted that Chiranjeevi would get a berth in the Union Ministry in the next cabinet expansion. The Prime Minister may induct Chiranjeevi in his Cabinet shortly.

Wives of APSP cops end dharna on DGP’s assurance

Wives of constables of APSP VIII Battalion ended their dharna on the third day at Kondapur here on Monday on the assurance of the Director General of Police V. Dinesh Reddy.

The police families continued their dharna on the third consecutive day on Monday. The DGP himself entered the scene and held discussions with the protestors and assured them of solution to all their demands. Satisfied with the DGP’s assurance, the police families withdrew their dharna immediately.

ACB arrests Gali’s brother in cash-for-bail case

The Anti Corruption Bureau on Monday arrested Karnataka MLA Gali Somasekhara Reddy, one of the main accused in the cash-for-bail case of mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy.

Somasekhar Reddy was arrested by the ACB officials when he appeared at the ACB office to face the investigations in connection with the cash-for-bail scam on fourth day on Monday. After his arrest, the officials shifted Somasekhar Reddy to Osmania General Hospital for medical checkup.

Later he was produced him the ACB court which remanded him to judicial custody till August 17.

Ahmadinejad invited to Saudi Arabia to discuss Syria

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will take part in a meeting of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Saudi Arabia, which will focus on the Syrian conflict, Iran’s Mehr news agency reported Monday.

Mohammad Reza Forqani, head of the international affairs in Ahmadinejad’s administration, said the president was invited by the Saudi king.

He was described as white, single, in his 40s and an Army veteran.

Karnataka MLA Somasekhara Reddy held in cash-for-bail scam

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Andhra Pradesh Monday arrested Karnataka legislator G. Somasekhara Reddy in a cash-for-bail scam involving his brother and former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy.

ACB officials said they arrested Somasekhara in Hyderabad after questioning him for the fourth consecutive day.

He is the 11th accused and the second Karanataka legislator arrested in the same case. Somasekhara is a member of the Karnataka assembly from Bellary urban.

Syrian PM joins rebels, flees to Jordan: Reports

Syrian Prime Minister Riyad Hijab joined the opposition and fled to Jordan Monday, in what could be the highest-ranking defection in the 17-month uprising. State media claimed Hijab was sacked just two months after his appointment.

President Bashar al-Assad had appointed the former agriculture minister as prime minister in June, following elections in May, Sky News reported.

Conflicting reports from Syrian state TV claimed Hijab was “dismissed” as he was about to announce his support for the opposition.

US man held for shooting ill wife in hospital bed

A man in America’s Ohio state has been arrested after he shot his wife of 45 years in her hospital bed while she was being treated for a critical illness, a media report said here.

Barbara Wise, 65, who is recovering from a life-threatening illness in the intensive care unit at the Akron General Medical Center, survived the gunshot wound but is in critical condition, the Daily Mail reported.

Her husband, 66-year-old John Wise has been arrested on attempted murder charges.

Gurdwara shooting: Killer a former soldier

The man who shot dead six people in a Sikh temple in Milwaukee before police shot him has been identified as a 40-year-old former US Army soldier named Wade Michael Page, a media report said Monday.

Fox News said Page was at one time attached to the Fort Bragg Army installation in North Carolina.

The shooting took place in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek. Six people were killed and four wounded, including a police officer, before the man identified as Page was shot dead by a police officer.
