Son kills mother

(Siasat News): In a bizarre case, a son killed his own mother for the sake of a job. This hair-raising incident occurred at East Marredpally in Secunderabad.

According to the police sources, 52-year-old Shantamma who was offered the job of her late husband Pochiah when he died some time back. However, due to this, Shantamma’s two sons were unhappy with her.

The elder one Raaj Kumar used to quarrel with her over the issue. Yesterday, he took the extreme step and brutally killed his mother with heavy boulder.

August to witness ‘blue moon’

The month of August will bring us two full moons. Usually a full moon occurs only once in a month, when two full moons occur within a calendar month, the second full moon is called a “blue moon”. But remember that a blue moon is simply the second full moon in month. It doesn’t actually have anything to do with color at all.

The first full moon will be kicked off on Wednesday, August 1, and the second full moon will be witnessed on August 31 which will be a ‘blue moon’. The origin of the calendrical term “blue moon” was discovered in the year 1999.

UAE, Egypt sign deal for heart surgery centre

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Egypt have signed an agreement to establish a specialised centre for heart surgery at the University of Ain Shams in Cairo.

The centre will be equipped with the latest medical instruments to facilitate free cardiac operations for needy groups made possible by the Zayed Giving Initiative and the Emirates World Humanitarian Hospital.

TV addiction boosts diabetes risk among elderly

Being glued to TV for four hours daily could boost the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, especially if you are aged 60 or above.

The study, led by Paul Gardiner from The University of Queensland School of Population Health, was one of the first to examine the effects of sedentary behaviour and TV watching on older men and women.

“Up until now, most research about sitting and watching TV has been focused on children, while older adults have potentially the most to gain from changing their behaviour,” Gardiner said.

Russian, Western differences on Syria exaggerated: Medvedev

There is less difference between the Russian and Western stances on the Syrian crisis than is perceived because both Moscow and its Western partners would like to avoid a large-scale civil war in the violence-hit Middle Eastern country, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said.

“Despite perceived differences, the positions of Russia, Britain and the US are not as strikingly different as sometimes suggested,” Medvedev told the Times newspaper during his visit to London where he attended the opening of the Olympic Games July 27.

Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind takes up relief work for riot hit areas of Assam

Large scale measures are being taken up by Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind for relief fund and rehabilitation of riot-hit Muslim families of Assam. General Secretary State Jamiat Ulama Mr. Hafiz Peer Khaleeq Ahmed Sabir in a statement revealed that the poor Muslims of Assam were already confronting with the rain havoc and were facing a lot of hardship, the sudden communal violence added to their woes and nearly 50 people were killed during ethnic violence. The riots left scores of people seriously injured and lakhs of them homeless.

Prithviraj Chavan meets Sonia, Rahul

Ahead of the Congress-NCP Coordination Committee meeting, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Monday held consultations with senior leaders, including party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.

Chavan, who is under attack from state NCP leaders over his style of functioning, also held discussions with senior Congress leaders Ahmed Patel and Motilal Vora.

Recently, the NCP had threatened to withdraw from the Union government complaining that allies were ignored by the Congress in the functioning of the UPA.

Teenager raped in Badaun

A physically challenged teenaged girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in Ughaini village in the district, police said on Tuesday.

The 14-year-old was allegedly raped by her neighbour Nanhe with the help of three others, her family members said in their complaint.

Superintendent of Police Manjil Saini said that an inquiry was underway in the case and the guilty would be brought to book.

Muslim collector for Hyderabad: APCC minority dept. pats govt.

Mr. Mohammed Ismail Husain state convenor APCC minority department expressed happiness over appointment of Mr. Syed Ali Murtaza Razvi as Hyderabad district collector by the government of Andhra Pradesh. He said that lack of a Muslim collector was being felt since long.

Earlier government had appointed a Muslim IPS officer, Mr. Mohammed Abdul Qayyum, as city police commissioner, now that Mr. A K Khan has been shifted to RTC after his promotion no Muslim is holding top position. In this scenario Mr. Syed Ali Murtaza Razvi’s appointment is laudable.

Assam riots: dismissal of CM demanded

A meeting of Citizen Youth Welfare Association was held, in which atrocities on Muslims were deliberated. The meeting was presided over by Mr. Mohammed Fareed Quadri president Association. Later Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and Congress president Mrs. Sonia Gandhi were urged to dismiss chief Minister Assam Tarun Gogoi with immediate effect. It was also demanded to shun diplomatic relations with Burmese government which is involved in Muslim genocide. The speakers say that Assam burns even after prime minister’s visit and the riots have not been controlled.

Rupee up 15 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee gained 15 paise to 55.43 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Tuesday at the Interbank Foreign Exchange as the American currency weakened against euro overseas.

Dollar selling by exporters and banks amid a higher opening in the domestic equity market also supported the rupee, dealers said.

Euro rose against the American currency overseas ahead of the European Central Bank meets on August 2, 2012 they added.

Putin signs US-Russia visa pact

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed the ratification of an agreement with the United States that substantially eases the visa regime for both countries’ citizens.

The agreement allows Russians and Americans to get three-year multi-entry visas under which they can stay for up to six consecutive months. It also eliminates Russia’s requirement that visitors get a letter of invitation, although tourists will still need to show advance accommodation bookings.

Teenager shot dead

A teenager was shot dead by some unidentified assailants due to old enmity in old Jiyanpur area here, police said on Tuesday.

18-year-old Wasim was shot in Anjan Shaheed village last evening, they said. Wasim was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Police have lodged an FIR in this connection against five persons and launched a manhunt to nab them The incident was stated to be fallout of old enmity.

Rs. 50 Lakh sanctioned for Makka Masjid and Shahi Masjid of Public Garden

(Siasat News) Mr. Mohammed Ahmedullah, Minister for Minorities Welfare sanctioned Rs. 50 lakh for providing water coolers, water filters and generators in Makka Masjid and Shahi Masjid of Public Garden. This file was received on 28th July. The next day (i.e. 29th July) was a holiday being Sunday. On Monday (29th July) Mr. Ahmedullah first approved this file soon after reaching his chamber in Secretariat. Wakf Board had assessed the needs of these Mosques and the file was sent to Finance Dept. which gave its nod provided that the expenditure is met out of the funds earmarked for 2011-2012.

Hillary to leave on 10-day African trip

The US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, leaves on Tuesday on a 10-day African sojourn, which her close aide said is aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, spurring economic growth and advancing peace.

The July 31-August 10 trip would take her through Senegal, South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi and South Africa.

Teenager injured in leopard attack

A teenager was injured in an attack by a leopard in Bhiwandi town of Thane district, police said today.

14-year-old shepherd, Akshay Rose, was attacked by a leopard at Umarkhand in Bhiwandi near the Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary yesterday when he had gone to the forest with his herd, Shahapur police said.

Hearing the screams, his cousins, who were plucking vegetables in a nearby farm, ran to his rescue. The victim, who suffered multiple injuries on his face and neck, was admitted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai, police said.

PC set to be FM,Shinde likely to get Home‎ Ministry

In a Cabinet reshuffle likely this weekend, P Chidambaram will be made the Finance Minister and the current Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, is likely to take over as the new Home Minister, sources said on Tuesday.

Shinde is also likely to be made the UPA Leader in Lok Sabha. Another major reshuffle is further expected after the monsoon session of Parliament in September.

The post of the Finance Minister was left empty after Pranab Mukherjee resigned from the post ahead of the Presidential election.

Tent for Ramdev’s protest collapses, 4 injured

A portion of a tent being erected for yoga guru Ramdev’s protest at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi collapsed this morning due to rains, leaving four labourers injured.

Organisers said the tent collapsed due to rain. The labourers suffered minor injuries, they said.

Ramdev is scheduled to sit on an indefinite protest from August 9 demanding that black money stashed away abroad should be brought back to the country.
