A Muslim girl of Nalgonda was felicitated on getting 8 gold medals

Miss Zainab Farah, daughter of Ghouse Mohammed of Nalgonda got eight gold medals and created a record of excellent educational standard in Nalgonda. She has become the first girl candidate who obtained eight gold medals in the 56 year history of Nalgonda.

She got 89.9% marks in Botany and 88.8% marks in BSc (Life Science). In addition to this, she obtained first position in MBA of this district by securing 74% marks. She also qualified National Eligibility Test held recently.

According to a statement made by Mr. Ghiyasuddin Babu Khan, Chairman, Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust, food grain packets ere distributed in five districts of Telangana, namely, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Sangareddy and Mahboobnagar. Foodgrain kits were distributed to 11,640 students of Urdu medium schools which included wheat flour, Chana daal, Chilly powder, Sugar, tea leaves, palm dates and vermicellini etc.

21 get life in Gujarat massacre

21 convicts were awarded life term by the special trial court which is trying the 2002 Deepda Darwaja massacre case in Gujarat. The court also awarded one year sentence to a police officer for dereliction of duty.

While acquitting 61 out of 85 accused in the case the court held 22 guilty in Gujarat communal violence.

On February 28, 2002, 11 people including four children and five women were burnt to death by a mob at Chudiwas area of Visnagar town, near Deepda Darwaja.

The case was taken up by special investigation team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court.

BJP predicts early elections due to govt’s ‘incompetence’

BJP on Tuesday criticised the central government for its alleged failure to tackle drought and price-rise, and said this “failure” would lead to early Lok Sabha elections.

“The present government shall be compelled to dissolve the House due to establishment’s complete failure to handle drought and price rise,” the party’s national vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said in a statement today.

The BJP leader said the “country is heading towards unprecedentedly dangerous droughts in UP, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, MP, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, AP, Maharashtra and Odisha.”

India has successfully developed SLBM for INS Arihant

India has successfully developed its first submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) for the indigenous nuclear submarine ‘INS Arihant’, joining an elite club of nations possessing such weaponry.

CBI files closure report in corruption case against Lalli

The CBI has filed a closure report in a Delhi court in a case involving former Prasar Bharti CEO B S Lalli saying it found no substantive evidence against him on charges of committing fraud and conspiracy in awarding of broadcasting rights for Commonwealth Games.

The agency has filed the closure report before Special CBI Judge Talwant Singh who has kept it for consideration on August 4.

Hajj Pilgrims’ last installment payment – today is the last day

In a press note released yesterday, AP State Hajj committee has notified that all those Hajj pilgrims who had deposited the first installment of their travel expenses of Rs. 51,000 earlier, have to deposit the second installment today itself. Mr. Syed Kaleeluddin Ahmed, Chairman of AP, State Hajj Committee informed the Hajj pilgrims that they have to deposit Rs. 1,10,600 for Green category and Rs.82,950 for Azizia category accommodation.

Andhra, south India safe from grid disturbances

Electricity authorities in Andhra Pradesh Tuesday said the state was safe and secure from grid disturbances in other parts of India.

Andhra Pradesh Transmission Corporation (AP Transco) said there was no need to panic as the state was quite safe and secure from grid disturbances and fully protected from possible blackouts. It, however, cautioned the engineers to be more vigilant.

The collapse of northern, eastern and north-eastern power grids disrupted power supply to more than 20 states Tuesday.

Home Minister P.Chidambaram is India’s new finance minister, while his cabinet colleague Sushilkumar Shinde will take charge of the home ministry, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique issued Tuesday said.

“The president, as advised by the prime minister, has directed that the portfolios of the following ministers will be re-allocated as follows – P. Chidambaram Finance, Sushilkumar Shinde Home Affairs,” the statement said.

Andhra announces Rs.50 lakh cash award for Gagan

The Andhra Pradesh government Tuesday announced a cash award of Rs.50 lakh for ace shooter Gagan Narang, who bagged a bronze medal at the London Olympics.

Narang Monday won the men’s 10 meter air rifle event, giving India its first medal at the London Olympics.

Chief Minister N.Kiran Kumar Reddy announced the cash award for Narang when his parents called on him at the state secretariat.

British guard stuns paperless PM Cameron

A diligent guard deputed for Olympic security duty surprised Whitehall-headed British Prime Minister David Cameron Monday by asking him to show his papers.

Cameron, however, praised the squaddie for being “on his marks” as he walked to Downing Street after using the London Underground to visit the Olympic Park in Stratford.

The Tube was “pretty good”, Cameron told ITV London Tonight while adding: “I was stopped going down Whitehall by a soldier. I didn’t have my papers.”

Blood on Aarushi’s clothes was her own: Forensic expert

In the Aarushi-Hemraj double murder case, a forensic lab scientist told a special court here Tuesday that the blood stains found on the teen’s clothes and her bed’s mattress matched her blood group.

He said a whisky bottle, sent by the CBI for test, carried the finger prints of both Aarushi and Hemraj, her domestic help.

B.K. Mahapatra, a Central Forensic Science Laboratory scientist, appeared in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) special court as witness and said that the finger prints of both Aarushi and Hemraj were found on a Valentines Whisky bottle sent for inspection.

RBI keeps key rates unchanged as inflation outlook worsens

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Tuesday kept key policy rates unchanged for the second time since June, saying lowering them would raise the inflationary pressure.

In the first quarter review of monetary policy, the central bank kept the repo rate, the rate at which it lends to commercial banks, unchanged at 8 percent. The reverse repo rate, the rate at which the apex bank borrows money from commercial banks, was also stayed unchanged at 7 percent.

the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR), the amount of funds that the commercial banks have to keep with the RBI, stands steady at 4.75 percent.

Power crisis now trips 19 states, 60 crore people hit

The power crisis that hit northern India turned into a larger blackout a day later Tuesday to affect as many as 19 states not just in the north but also in the east and northeast, paralysing essential services such as rail and metro operations, besides causing massive traffic snarls.

“Grid incident occurred at 1 p.m., affecting the northern, eastern and northeastern grids. The system is under restoration,” said the official website of the eastern grid, among the such systems managed by the state-run Power System Operation Corp Ltd.

Actress Kangana Ranaut has turned director with a short film written in collaboration with an Australian writer and shot in the US.

Kangana, 25, who was last seen in Anil Kapoor-starrer “Tezz”, is currently working on the untitled project, which has been shot in Los Angeles with an American cast and crew and deals with a complex subject of human-animal relationship.

An Andhra Pradesh MLA and seven others were sentenced to one year imprisonment by a local court today for obstructing government officials on duty during an incident in 2005.

K Srivenkateswara Rao, TDP legislator from Gudivada, and the others were later granted bail by the Judicial First Class Magistrate.

Power crisis again: Northern, Eastern grids fail

The Northern and Eastern Grids tripped today, leading to power failure in several states of the country affecting hundreds of millions of people.

While the Northern Grid collapsed for the second time in two days, the Eastern transmission lines too failed this afternoon, said officials at the Power Ministry and electricity companies.

Power supply was disrupted in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, West Bengal, Assam and Punjab, among other states.

Long-haired man mistaken for a woman in Makkah

A photograph of a man with a long hair showing part of his upper body during Umrah (mini pilgrimage) in Saudi Arabia was mistaken for a woman in social networks, which poured abuse and sarcasm at her.

The picture, taken in the first week of the fasting month of Ramadan, was published in many social websites and one user commented :”It seems this woman misunderstands Umrah and its rules.”

But newspapers in the Gulf kingdom insisted the picture is for an African man not a woman despite the long hair spreading over his shoulders.

Male beggar dressed in hijab arrested in Dubai

The number of beggars have gone up significantly during the holy month of Ramadan, according to top police officials in Dubai.

The authorities running the anti-begging campaign arrested 37 people last week alone. On Monday a teenage boy in hijab was also caught begging.

The youngster was moving around with a group of women, said Col Salem Khalifa Al Rumaithi, Deputy CID Director, Search and Investigation, Dubai Police.

The 15-year-old boy told investigating officers that he was tempted to beg because of the acitivities of the group he belonged to.

Advani blames Bangladeshi immigrants for Assam violence

Veteran BJP leader L.K. Advani Tuesday blamed the immigration of people from Bangladesh into Assam for the communal violence in the state.

Advani, who is touring the state, said at a press conference that there was a “criminal delay” by the government in handling the crisis.

The over week-long violence between the Bodos and the Bengali-speaking Muslim settlers from July 19 left 56 dead and lakhs homeless.

Army man killed, six injured in Assam blast

An army man was killed and six others were injured when suspected militants triggered a powerful bomb blast in Goalpara district of Assam Tuesday, said police.

Police officials suspect it to be an IED blast triggered by a remote control device.

The incident took place in Bamunghopa near the Panchratna area of Goalpara district.

Defence spokesman Lt.Col. S.S. Phogat confirmed the incident and said while one of the army personnel died on the spot, six others were seriously injured. All the injured were shifted to the army’s Base Hospital in Guwahati.
