Joshi-Modi poster war reaches Jaipur

The poster war between Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and his arch-rival Sanjay Joshi reached Jaipur Friday.

One of the posters appeared mysteriously outside the gates of the BJP state headquarters in the C-Scheme area here. However, it was taken off by the BJP workers.

The multi-colour posters had a large image of Joshi. The poster read: “Pahle Joshi, Phir Modi.” (First Joshi, then Modi).

Sources said that the posters were put up late in the night.

The BJP state office-bearer evaded questions about who put up the posters.

AP Government hikes DA of its employees and pensioners

Andhra Pradesh Government employees and pensioners will get a 6 per cent hike in their dearness allowance (DA) with effect from January this year.

The state Cabinet, that met here this evening after a gap of about three months under the chairmanship of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, approved enhancement of DA from 35.9 per cent to 41.94 per cent.

TRS condemns release of water to Krishna Delta

Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLA T Harish Rao condemned the State Government’s move to release water to Krishna delta farmers from Nagarjuna Sagar ignoring the Telangana region.

Talking to media persons here on Friday, Harish Rao demanded that the government take back its decision immediately and warned of serious consequences if it fails to do so. If the government releases water to Krishna delta, he said that the Telangana region including the State capital Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Nalgonda and Mahbubnagar would face serious drinking water problem.

When Ram kissed Ronit on stage

Actors Ram Kapoor and Ronit Roy enjoyed a little bit of ‘dostana’ act on stage when they came together to host the Indian Telly Awards.

Both the actors were competing in the favourite television personality category. They had a bet, if Ronit wins, then Ram would kiss him, and Ronit promised ‘jhappi’ (hug) to Ram if he wins.

As luck would have it, Ronit took away the award and as per the bet Ram had to kiss him.

Ram and Ronit continued their pappi-jhappi session during the show, but later decided that the right place to shower their love was on their wives.

Minor raped by road-roller driver

A four-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a road-roller driver in Narot Mehra village about 20 km from here, police said today.

The incident happened last night when the girl was picked up by the accused from her house when she was sleeping in her courtyard. She was later left in a garden in the neighbourhood bleeding profusely.

India believes that LeT founder Hafiz Saeed was with 26/11 key handler Abu Jundal in the control room set up in Pakistan with some kind of “state support”, Home Minister P Chidambaram said today.

“Such a control room could not have been set up without some kind of state support,” he said at a press conference here.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was protecting his cabinet colleagues by not allowing prosecution against them, Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal said here on Friday.

In reply to a question as to whether he considered Modi to be corrupt, Kejriwal said: “I don’t have evidence which shows that Modi is corrupt, but at least Modi is protecting his cabinet colleagues, by not granting sanction for prosecution of his Ministers against whom allegations were made, and also by not appointing Lokayukta for nine years.

Salman Khan seeks support of Pak people for Sarabjit’s release

Actor Salman Khan has come forward in seeking support of Pakistani people and the media for Sarabjit Singh’s release, who has been on death row in a Lahore jail since 1990.

“Requesting the people of Pakistan to support me to help free Sarabjit who has been in prison since 30 years. Please. Allah ka vasta,” Salman wrote on twitter.

“Request the ‘awam’ of Pakistan, members of the press, government of Pakistan, President Zardari, a humble request. It would be the most amazing gesture, to send Sarabjit back to his family after 30 years. Hope u support me like its your own cause.”

‘Completely wrong’ to say Surjeet Singh was sent to Pak as spy: Govt

The government described as “completely wrong” that Surjeet Singh, the Indian prisoner who has just returned from Pakistan, had been sent by intelligence agencies to that country as a spy.

Union Home Secretary Raj Kumar Singh said it was completely wrong to say that Surjeet Singh was sent by Indian intelligence agencies for espionage in Pakistan.

“We do not accept this. It is completely wrong. We deny it. We do not do this kind of thing (spying on other countries). Neither we do spying, nor we send spies,” he said at a press conference here.

Ex-Russian cop raped, killed 25 women

A Siberian court has sanctioned detention of a former police officer suspected to have sexually assaulted and killed 25 women.

The 48-year-old man has been formally accused of murdering three women. The other deaths, which occurred between 1994 and 2000, are currently being investigated, an Angarsk city court said in a press release.

The man, who resigned from the police force in 1998, was held in Vladivostok city.

The women were aged between 19 and 28, and most of them were believed to be drunk at the time he sexually assaulted and killed them, said police.

No regrets on not becoming PM, says Pranab

UPA presidential candidate Pranab Mukherjee says he has no regrets that he could not become India’s prime minister.

In an interview to CNN-IBN, the veteran Congress leader also ruled out a debate with opposition-backed nominee Purno Sangma and said that coalition politics was here to stay.

“I don’t regret that,” Mukherjee said, when asked if he felt bad that he could not become the prime minister despite his vast experience in politics.

Sarabjit converted to Islam, has a Muslim name Sarfaraz: Surjeet to Indian Express

In a Shocking statement to Indian Express, Surjeet Singh who on Thursday reached India after spending 30 years in Pakistan jail claimed that Sarabjit had “converted to Islam” and was now known as “Sarfaraz” in Lahore’s Kot Lakhpat Jail as reported by Indian Express on Friday, 29 June 2012.

The paper said Surjeet also claimed that another Indian prisoner Kirpal Singh on death row in Pakistan, had also “converted to Islam” and had a new name “Mohammed Din”.

Telangana decision as early as possible but no timelimit: PC

The Centre today said it was keen to take a final decision on Telangana statehood issue as early as possible but refused to give any time limit for it.

Home Minister P Chidambaram said all concerned parties have requested the government to take a final decision on the demand for a separate Telangana as early as possible.

Aarushi case: Police expert fails to explain finger printing

Uttar Pradesh Police expert who lifted finger prints and shot photos at the scene of teenager Aarushi Talwar’s murder in May 2008, Friday failed to explain to a local CBI court here the technique by which he lifted the finger prints.

Chunni Lal Gautam submitted that he had clicked 23 photos and submitted these to the CBI. He revealed to the court that he lifted the finger prints from Aarushi’s room, its door, Aarushi’s family servant Hemraj’s room and its door and the spot where the dead body of Hemraj was found at the terrace.

Naxalism is a wake up call for democracy: Pillai

Naxalism is a wake up call for the country, former Union home secretary G K Pillai said here, while blaming poor governance for the rise in the problem.

“Maoism or Naxalism is a wake up call for India’s democracy. I think today the major political parties in India have still not realised the magnitude of the problem.

Rosaiah gets relief from ACB court summons

In a major relief to former chief minister and Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Friday stayed an order of a designated ACB court which directed him to appear before it on August 2 in connection with the Ameerpet land allotment case.

The court while staying the ACB court orders, observed that the orders were in violation of Article 361 of the Constitution. The court said that it was against the Constitution to issue summons to a state governor.

At a time when probe is widening on key Mumbai terror attacks handler Abu Hamja, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Friday said that the 26/11 control room in Karachi had full support of Pakistan.

“The confession of Jundal, who played a key role in the 26/11 control room in Karrachi, has established beyond doubt that there was support of Pakistani state actors in the Mumbai terror attacks” Chidambaram said addressing a press conference here.

“Such a control room could not have been established without state support”, he added.
