Land will be taken back if hostels are not constructed: Collector of Hyderabad

Collector of Hyderabad Mr. Natarajan Gulzar said that plots of lands were allotted to welfare organizations and departments for constructing students’ hostels. He warned all the concerned that if hostels have not been constructed on the allotted lands, they will be taken back by the Government and they will be allotted to other departments. Collector was reviewing “Mee Kosam (For You)” programme in the conference hall of the collectorate.

Pak expresses shock over shooting down of Turkish jet by Syria

Pakistan on Monday expressed deep shock at the shooting down of a Turkish combat jet by Syria and called for a joint investigation into the incident that has raised regional tensions over the conflict in Syria.

“The government of Pakistan expresses its deep shock and regret on the shooting down of a Turkish Air Force aircraft by Syria on June 22, 2012 which was reportedly unarmed and on a routine training mission,” the Foreign Office said in a statement.

Death in imprisonment acceptable if it is Allah’s will: Abdul Qadeer

Magsaysay award winner noted social worker Sandeep Pandey arrived at Gandhi hospital and visited ex-constable Abdul Qadeer, who is struggling for life in the hospital after 23 years of imprisonment, and expressed sympathy with Abdul Qadeer.

MBT corporator Amjadullah Khan, chief of ‘Khudai Khidmatgar’ Faisal Khan and others were also present. Abdul Qadeer narrated the whole story in detail, in what circumstances he had shot Satya. He wept while narrating the incident.

Education, Health, Agriculture and Electricity get priority: CM

Mr. N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, CM of AP established contacts with the district collectors through a video conference held yesterday in secretariat. He instructed them to give top priority to the departments of Education, Health, Agriculture, and Electricity.

He pointed out that the total number of students studying in Govt. Schools is 56 lakh. They are being provided school uniforms with an expenditure of Rs. 200 crore. Textbooks are also being supplied to them. He wished the collectors to make “School Fortnight” a success by admitting more students into schools.

Swine fever outbreak in West Sikkim

With three blood samples having tested positive at Regional Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RDDL) authorities today confirmed swine fever outbreak as the cause of high mortality among pigs in Rinchenpong, West Sikkim.

Joint Director, Animal Husbandry department [West], Dr D S Tewari said in a statement that results of three blood samples sent to RDDL, Khanapara, Assam, confirmed that it is swine fever and the department embarked on a vaccination drive in Rinchenpong constituency.

Son arrested for killing father over property dispute

A man arrested for killing his father over a property dispute was produced in court here Tuesday and was remanded to police custody for four days.

“Amandeep Singh, a resident of Sekhe Kalan village in Moga district, was arrested Monday and he has already confessed to his crime. He had given his father, Jugraj Singh a glass of milk laced with poison and then also gave him electric shocks to ensure that he was dead. Later, he threw his body inside a septic tank,” Darshan Singh, investigation officer of the case, told IANS.

Severe reactions to food more common in kids

Children with allergies to milk and egg experience unexpectedly more severe reaction to these and other foods than previously thought, researchers claim.

A team from National Jewish Health (NJH) in the US found that more than 70 per cent of preschoolers with documented or suspected food allergies suffered a significant reaction during the three-year study period.

They also found that caregivers failed to administer the medication “epinephrine” in 70 per cent of the severe and potentially life-threatening reactions.

Indo-Pak Foreign Minister-level talks postponed

The Indo-Pak Foreign Ministers’ meeting, which was scheduled in July, has been postponed since the dates were clashing with the Presidential poll here.

According to official sources, Pakistan wanted to hold the meeting on July 19 which was not convenient to the Indian side in view of the Presidential poll on that date.

The new dates are being worked out at the convenience of both sides and the meeting is likely to happen in August, the sources said.

On a recent episode of his popular TV show Satyamev Jayate, Aamir had promised Shanno – a female cab driver and victim of domestic violence – that whenever he visited Delhi next, he would hire her vehicle. And that is exactly what he did.

More Kingfisher engineers plan to quit due Salary dues

About 80 engineers have quit beleaguered Kingfisher Airlines in the past 4-5 months due to non-payment of salaries by the near-bankrupt carrier.

“Some 60-80 engineers have already quit the carrier in the last 4-5 months, as they could not sustain non-payment of salaries. And more are planning to do so,” airline sources told PTI here.

Some more engineers are in the process of bidding good-bye to the carrier, they said, adding that “if the trend continues, the airline may face severe shortage of engineers’’.

Syria fires at another Turkish jet

Having downed a Turkish military jet last week, Syrian forces have fired at another jet looking for the first plane’s wreckage, according to Al-Arabiya news channel .

The attack ceased after a warning from the Turkish side, and the second plane was not brought down, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc was cited as saying by The Telegraph.

Syrian authorities were yet to comment on the report as of late Monday.

Doctors join nationwide stir

Doctors went on a day-long strike in Karnataka on Monday as part of the nationwide protest called by the Indian Medical Association to protest certain reforms initiated by the Central Government in the medical field.

The striking doctors staged a dharna at the Freedom Park between 9.30 am to 12 noon and later submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda and Governor H R Bhardwaj, IMA state President Dr H L Krishne Gowda told PTI in Bangalore.

NIA likely to question 26/11 handler Abu Jundal

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is likely to take custody of and question LeT terrorist Syed Zabiuddin alias Abu Jundal, who was arrested by Delhi Police.

Jundal has admitted to playing an active role in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He has told the Delhi Police during interrogation that he had worked in close coordination with terror mastermind Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.

Delhi University to declare its first cutoff today‎

The Delhi University on Monday announced its first cut-off list, amid anxiety in the Class 12 passout students who are hoping to get admissions in the prestigious University.

However, unlike last year DU colleges did not announce 100 per cent cut off percentage following much hue and cry over the issue.

The prestigious Hindu college put a ceiling of 99.25 per cent to its cut-off range.

GJM leaders to meet Chidambaram today

A team of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM), which has expressed disappointment over recommendations of a panel report over inclusion of new areas in the proposed hill council here, will meet Union Home Minister P Chidambaram in Delhi on Tuesday.

Shutdown in Srinagar today after shrine fire

Separatist groups in Srinagar have called for a general strike on Tuesday a day after a massive fire gutted the historic 11th century Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine here.

The protestors have alleged that firefighters arrived late on the scene to douse the flames.

The cause of the fire is still to be ascertained however the authorities later claimed that the holy relic of the 11th century Muslim saint was safe.

The incident sparked tension in Srinagar city and heavy police force was deployed to control the law and order sitiation here.

Rupee up 11 paise against dollar in early trade

The rupee on Tuesday rose by 11 paise to 56.90 against the US dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange market as the American currency weakened against euro and other currencies overseas.

Besides, a higher opening in the domestic equity market also supported the rupee, dealers said.

The domestic currency had ended 14 paise higher at Rs 57.01 after touching a fresh record low of Rs 57.92 against the dollar in yesterday’s highly volatile trade following RBI’s measures to stem the currency slide.

CBI opposes Talwars’ plea for original fingerprint records

The CBI on Monday opposed dentist couple Rajesh and Nupur Talwars’ plea for providing them the original records of the finger prints of their slain teenaged daughter Aarushi and those found on various articles on crime scene, where she was found murdered.

Talwars have sought the original records of the fingerprints, including those of the transparent tapes, used by forensic experts to lift the fingerprints from various objects, to cross-examine prosecution witness and police photographer-cum-forensic expert Chunni Lal Gautam.

SKS secures employment for 248 displaced employees

SKS Microfinance Limited today claimed it secured employment for 248 displaced employees following its collaboration with leading corporates and recruitment consultancies.

The company organised job fairs in Hyderabad and Vijayawada for all displaced employees after providing them training reorientation.
