Zardari’s ordinance protecting Gilani’s decisions challenged

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s ordinance giving constitutional protection to all decisions made by former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani during the period he was disqualified, was today challenged in the Supreme Court.

A petition filed in the apex court said the court had not yet issued a detailed judgement indicating the complete consequences of Gilani’s disqualification, including the decisions made by him and his cabinet.

YSR doled away lands to private individuals: VH

Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao has said that late chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had given away valuable government lands at throwaway prices to private individuals, causing colossal loss to the State exchequer.

Talking to the media here on Tuesday, VH said that some persons from Kadapa and some officers had plundered the State. He also faulted government pleaders for supporting private individuals.

Vijaya Sai files defamation case against Babu and Ramoji

Jagati Publications vice-chairman and Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s confidant Vijaya Sai Reddy has filed a defamation suit against TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, Eenadu group Chairman Ch. Ramoji Rao and Leader of the Opposition in the Council Dadi Veerabhadra Rao. He pleaded with the court to take criminal action against the trio for making baseless charges against him.

EDCET results released; 99.21% candidates passed

Principal Secretary of Higher Education MG Gopal released EdCET results here this morning. He released the results at a program conducted in the Andhra University Platinum Jubilee Guest House.

While 1,52,278 candidates submitted applications for writing EdCET, 1,37,768 have appeared for the examination. Out of them, 1,36,667 candidates (99.21%) got through the test. Officials concerned said that there were 60,000 B.Ed. seats in 605 colleges all over the State. They said that they would conduct the counseling after announcing the date.

Municipal polls by September: Minister

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development M. Maheedhar Reddy on Tuesday made it clear that municipal elections will be held by September this year.

Maheedhar Reddy said that the government could not conduct municipal elections on time due to instability and special circumstances in the State. Stating that the government was ready to hold civic polls on the basis of 2011 Census, he said the government would approach the court seeking green signal for conduct of elections.

It’s Surjeet being released not Sarabjit, says Zardari’s spokesman

Hours after reports emerged that Pakistan was to free Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh, the presidential spokesman tonight clarified that authorities had taken steps for the release of another Indian prisoner named Surjeet Singh who has been jailed for three decades.

“I think there is some confusion. First, it is not a case of pardon. More importantly, it is not Sarabjit. It is Surjeet Singh, son of Sucha Singh.

ICAI national convention in city

The Board of Studies of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is organizing a national Convention for CA students on June 28 and 29, at Shilpakala Vedika, Hitech City, Madhapur here.

Congress lost heavily due to Jagan’s arrest: Palvai

Congress MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy has said that the Congress party has lost heavily due to the arrest of the YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Palvai met Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday. Talking to the media later, he said Sonia Gandhi also has the same opinion. Stating that the YSR Congress polled more votes than it would otherwise have got because of Jagan’s arrest, Palvai said Sonia Gandhi was of the view that Jagan could not be underestimated.

TDP dismisses reports of differences between Nara & Nandamuri families

TDP leaders Bojjala Gopala Krishna Reddy and Gali Muddu Krishnama Naidu have dismissed reports that there were differences between Nara and Nandamuri families.

Talking to the media here on Tuesday, they said that Rajya Sabha member Nandamuri Hari Krishna and his son and film actor Junior NTR have been frequently talking to party supremo on party matters. They said both the families would work only for strengthening the party. They also said that both the families would share space on a dais soon.

Rs.53, 000 cr loan target to farm sector this year: CM

Asking the Bankers to work as part of the Government, the Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that the farmers will get the loans for the Kharif season if they paid at least the original loan amount taken earlier, and added the government will pay the interest to the banks. He said that the government has fixed a loan target of Rs.53,000 crore to the farmers this year.
