TDP to fight until new liquor policy is shelved

TDP has said that it would continue its fight until the government withdrew its new excise policy and ran the liquor shops itself.

Party’s senior leader Dadi Veerabhadra Rao said in a statement here on Wednesday that the government which boasted of bringing a never heard off excise policy and eliminating liquor syndicates, has introduced a policy which was nothing but old wine in new bottle. Having appointed a cabinet sub-committee and after organizing several meetings, the policy that was ushered in, would no way be able to bring any control, he added.

ARPS to contest next elections

Andhra Rashtra Praja Samithi, a registered political party, has decided to contest in the next local body and Assembly elections in Telangana region.

Announcing this at a media conference here, the samithi founder president Pellakuru Surendra Reddy said that the main goal of his party was bifurcation of the state in an amicable manner. Though the state was divided, the people of Telangana and Seemandhra should live like brothers. Chandrababu condemns murder of his party worker

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has condemned the murder of his party worker Nandarapu Ramanna (40) in Taalla Ookallu village under Maripeda mandal of Warangal district.

Pakistan frees 311 Indian prisoners

Indian death row prisoner Sarabjit Singh’s fate may have plunged into further uncertainity, but India still has some reason to cheer. Pakistan Wednesday freed 311 Indian fishermen from prison.

Officials of Karachi’s District Malir jail said, 311 Indian prisoners were released at 8 a.m. after completing their sentences.

They were sent to Wagah border where they will be handed over to Indian authorities, Geo TV reported.

The prisoners, include 21 juveniles, lodged in Youthful Offenders’ School in Karachi. The adult prisoners were held at Malir jail.

90 die in Bangladesh floods, landslides

Nearly 90 people have died in Bangladesh in flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains, officials said Wednesday.

Rains have wrecked havoc in the three hill districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazaar and Bandarban since Tuesday, killing at least 88 people, Xinhua reported.

The military, police and the fire service personnel have joined the rescue efforts.

According to the Met Office, Chittagong received more than 460 mm rain till 9 p.m. Tuesday, submerging almost two-thirds of the city.

Three monks killed in Jaipur car accident

At least three monks were killed while three others were critically injured when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district Wednesday, police said.

According to police, the deceased were monks coming to Jaipur from Gujarat’s Vadodara, when the accident occurred near Gidani village near Dudu in the district, some 100 km from Jaipur, in the morning.

Three arrested for kidnapping child in Delhi

A 48-year-old woman was arrested along with her two associates and a one-year-old child recovered from their possession here, police said Wednesday.

Sunita, a resident of Budh Vihar, and her associates Praveen Gupta and Sumit Giri were arrested after police launched a hunt for the kidnapped child of Laxmi Rathore.

“Sunita was the mastermind of the conspiracy, in which she took help of her neighbour Giri,” Deputy Commissioner of Police B.S. Jaiswal, said.

They kidnapped the child from a deserted place near a CNG filling station in Rohini, police said.

HC rejects Srilakshmi’s bail petition

INN): In a setback to suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, who was arrested in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation’s illegal mining scam, the High Court on Wednesday refused to grant her bail.

After hearing the arguments and counter arguments, the court rejected the bail petition of Srilakshmi. The CBI counsel argued that she might tamper with evidence and influence the witnesses if she was granted bail.
