Hyderabad lab receives blood samples of Tiwari, others

The Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics here on Friday received the blood samples of N D Tiwari, the youth who claims to be his biological son and also the youth’s mother for the DNA test over the paternity suit involving the veteran Congress leader.

The blood samples of the youth Rohit Sekhar and his mother Ujjwala Sharma were collected in the Delhi High Court on May 26 while Tiwari gave his sample in Dehradun on May 29 as per the Supreme Court order.

Odisha CM suspends dissident leader Pyari Mohan Mohapatra

Cracking the whip in a bid to check dissidence in ruling BJD, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday suspended dissident leader and MP Pyari Mohan Mohapatra and sacked two of his ministers from the government.

The sacked ministers are Anjali Behera, Cabinet minister in charge of Women and Child Development, and Minister of Commerce and Transport Sanjiv Sahu.

Making the announcement, the Chief Minister said he has written a letter to the Governor recommending their removal.

Baba Ramdev accuses PM of inaction

After Anna Hazare, yoga guru Ramdev on Friday trained guns at the Prime Minister alleging that he is not “politically honest” and it is not anti-corruption activists but Manmohan Singh himself who is weakening the democratic traditions of the country.

Addressing a press conference to brief about the June 3 fast along with Anna Hazare at Jantar Mantar here, the yoga guru said he still trusts Singh’s “personal honesty”.

Jaiswal refutes team Anna charges on coal blocks allocation

In a strong rebuttal to charges by team Anna, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal on Friday said there was no scam in allocation of coal blocks and his department was not aware of any CAG report on the issue.

“There is no CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General) report with me…There is no scam in allocation of coal blocks,” Jaiswal told reporters.

He said the blocks were allocated (to the companies both in the public and private sector) to provide subsidised power to the people in the last 15 years.

Clash between two communities leaves 12 injured

Over a dozen persons were today injured when a clash broke out between two communities in Kosi Kalan town of the district.

Members belonging to both the communities indulged in brick batting and also fired shots at each other, leaving at least twelve persons injured, police said.

The incident reportedly occurred after a pedestrian used water meant for some religious purpose, leading to a heated argument that culminated into the clashes.

Shops and business establishment were closed following the pitched battles in the heart of the city, police said.

Advani is our supreme leader, we must follow him: Jha

Madhya Pradesh state BJP chief Prabhat Jha on Friday said in Indore that senior leader LK Advani was the party’s supreme leader.

Advani had on Thursday made a veiled attack on BJP president Nitin Gadkari and called for introspection within the party over its current state of affairs.

When asked for a comment on Advani’s remarks, Jha told reporters: “Advani is our supreme (Sarvshreshtha)leader…we must follow his diktats. He is our guide….he has lot of affection for Gadkariji.”

People of the country had great expectations from BJP, he added.

Lagadapati hails suspension of CBI Judge

Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal on Friday expressed concern over the prevalence of rampant corruption in the judiciary.

Talking to reporters before staging a silent protest before Mahatma Gandhi statue in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation office, Rajagopal hailed the suspension of first additional Special Judge for CBI T Pattabhirama Rao, who recently granted bail to former Karnataka minister and mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy.

Jagan denied bail by CBI court

The CBI Court at Nampally on Friday dismissed the bail petition of YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with disproportionate assets case.

After hearing the lengthy arguments for more than eight hours, Principal Special Judge Justice A Pullaiah conceded the CBI arguments that Jagan might tamper with the evidence and influence the witnesses if he was released on bail.

He also observed that it was no possible to give bail to him when the CBI petition seeking his custody for 10 days was pending in the State High Court.

KKR Govt will collapse after by-polls: TDP

Telugu Desam Party senior leader Payyavula Kesav on Friday predicted that the government led by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy would collapse immediately after the announcement of by-elections results.

Participating in an by-election campaign at Rayadurgam in Anantapur district, Payyavula Kesav said that the people of State would reject Kiran Kumar Reddy Government following his indifferent style of functioning and for not responding on people’s issues.

Jagan behind YSR’s death: Congress

Congress party spokesperson N Tulasi Reddy on Friday suspected YSR Congress party president and Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy’s hand behind the death of former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the helicopter crash in 2009.

Talking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Tulasi Reddy dismissed the charges of YSR Congress party honorary president Vijayamma suspecting Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s involvement behind the YSR’s demise.

Instead, he alleged that Jagan might be responsible for his father’s death in the helicopter crash as he might go any extent to assume power.

BJP takes credit for CVC decision on coal mining

BJP on Friday sought to take credit for the CVC decision to refer complaints regarding coal mining allotments to the CBI for a preliminary inquiry.

“We are happy that the CVC has taken cognisance of our complaint. The CVC has written to us saying your complaints have been duly examined in the commission having regard to the issues raised therein and the same has been forwarded to the CBI for a preliminary inquiry,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

British boy rapes to feel ‘grown up’

A 12-year-old boy raped a girl three years younger in Britain after watching hardcore porn on the internet. He said he did it “to feel grown up”, a court heard.

His lawyer Sean Templeton told the closed hearing that the boy was copying what he had seen online with unlimited access to explicit sites, The Sun reported.

The lawyer said it was worrisome that youngsters were getting their sex education from porn. He further warned that the boy’s case was the “tip of the iceberg”, with similar incidents going unreported.

CBI starts verifying complaint of coal block scam

The CBI has started verifying the allegations of irregularities in the allocation of coal blocks to private companies between 2006 and 2009 and their misuse by them.

The agency received from the Central Vigilance Commission the complaint of BJP leaders Prakash Javadekar and Hansraj Ahir who had alleged that first-come-first-serve basis was adopted by the government to benefit some private companies.

CBI sources said the complaint that has been received has general allegations in which names or individual companies are not mentioned.

Woman quiting job wilfully, not entitled to alimony: HC

An educated woman who is capable of maintaining herself but quits her job voluntarily, is not entitled to alimony from her estranged husband, the Delhi High Court has held.

Justice Pratibha Rani dismissed the woman’s plea, which had challenged a lower court’s order denying her maintenance on the ground that she was well-qualified and working in the past, but had quit her job out of her own free will.

Expressing disappointment over the Centre not doing enough to eradicate corruption, anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare has said he has lost his faith in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

“I had a strong belief in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but now I do not have faith in him,” Hazare said during a visit here.

“We have to select persons having good character and send them to Parliament, then only the expected change will take place,” he added.

Juhu rave party organiser gets bail

A special court today granted bail to Vishay Handa, arrested under various sections of Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act for organising a rave party in a suburban Juhu hotel on May 20.

Special Judge of the NDPS Court, I M Bohari, granted bail to Handa on a surety of Rs five lakhs and asked him to deposit his passport with the police.

As many as 100 people, including IPL players Wayne Parnell and Rahul Sharma and 19 foreign nationals, were detained by Juhu police after they busted the party at suburban Juhu’s Oakwoods Hotel.

No further appeal against Bhagvad Gita translation in Russia

Russian prosecutors have decided against taking forward their case seeking a ban on a translated version of Bhagvad Gita, bringing down the curtains on the sensitive issue that had enraged Hindus globally and even threatened to strain Russia’s ties with India.

State prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk will not challenge a lower court decision to refuse to declare the translation of the Hindu scripture as “extremist”, RAPSI legal news agency reported.

Congress, TDP say Jagan trying to buy MLAs
